Man in the Car this morning going to a meeting on Insurance in the IFC .He said after brexit if you are with a British based insurer for motor, life ,house any insurance expect your premiums to rise between 8 and 12% .He said if the British move outside of the European Court of Justice then insurance companies registered  in the UK will need to Re-insure their liabilities with a EU registered insurer .He said a lot of British Insurers already do this but that wont stop them profiteering .

What if you're with a Spanish firm e.g. Liberty?

The Brits have already enshrined all E.U. laws into their constitution. Something, Boris failed to comment on until caught blubbering at some black tie do.

Seems if they drop the ECJ as the arbiter of claims and revert to Common Law then the British system would apply to litigation so it would be necessary to re-insure in a ECJ jurisdiction .He said its no biggie a lot of British insurance companies Re-insure with Munich Re which is the worlds biggesr Re-insurer and backed by the German Government .I think his point was we are going to be scalped by Insurance companies profiteering under the pretense of changes in legal status .

Interesting question, DM. I have found, in recent times, that prices charged by UK retailers (e.g. Debenhams, Marks & Sparks, Argos) in ROI stores are significantly higher than the Sterling equivalent in Northern Ireland stores. Obviously the exchange rate is a contributory factor with respective prices probably being set based on historical data, something that might no be (as) relevant to insurance premiums.

The M&S dine-in option has levelled itself out recently. The tenner sterling option is now £12 mirroring the ROI one of €14. The Great British Break Off is happening as they told us it would.. lol

The big chain stores don't really work like that, erm. In this technological age it's very easy to compare prices across jurisdictions as you shop.

Lads, when will you see that the EU is a money-making racket, an absolute load of bollox. Just last week I ordered a tub of protein from the US, it was stopped at customs and destroyed because EU Commission Regulation (EC) No 206/2009 states that you need a licence to import whey protien from outside the EU, regardless of the amount. It's a joke, absolute jobsworth flutes is all they are.

It's slightly cheaper than the overtaxed protein for sale in Ireland.
