Building the software is simple enough, DM. I'd gladly do the Android version FOC for a genuine co-op. However, marketing is another matter. Both Whistle and Flag have tried throwing money at it with littler or no success to date.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Lets not forget office staff wages, rent or lecky, Etc.
Running any driver app fer free to the driver is a Lunatic suggestion.
There are bills to be paid and someone has to pay them !

Yes but when we actually have a vested interest in it,drivers would be much more likely to be pro_ active in its promotion.I really believe if drivers gave the commitment required,we could be the dominant player in the industry.I had the pleasure of sclasses company yesterday, and one of the things we discussed was the lack of unity among drivers

I think a lot of drivers see this game as just that, a game...certainly not a profession, therefore unlikely to feel any unity as in other professions,it's a mish mash of ethnicities and in fairness most couldn't give a shite..especially with all the racist drivers out there, especially the pension collectors!!

Any attempts at professionalising the job is bound to be thwarted by greedy, old fashioned, connected , cab companies.
They want drivers just smart enough to steer, but dumb enough to pay rent.

But surely you must see that the drivers can change that if they want to.I cannot believe how little drivers seem to care about their livelihoods ,and their industry

A contributing pension is what is says on the tin,
Paid for with hard earned.
Now what are you on about,
Taxi owner driver is a business,
Self employed come and go as you want when you want,
Most drivers are fully committed to the business, like investing in a decent car, and keep it properly maintained, washed and cleaned inside and out.
But you can notice the drivers that don't commit themselves to the business, don't give a fuck,
They have always been there.
Investing the minimum amount just to get them on the road.
Driving Jap shitheap because they  can save a fiver a shift,
And the amateurs seriously believe they are driving the best car on the planet,
Most Taxi drivers do well in the taxi game, myself included,
Driving a taxi is like fishing
if you don't have your Hook in the water you won't catch anything,

Self-employed tradesman invest a lot more in vans and tools,

The NTA set the standards...and like moving goalposts as they see fit, they couldn't give a flyin fuk if you invested a 100k in a top o the range motor....which is why most if not all don't invest that sort of money,i'm happy with my jap shiteheap,i look after it,it's clean....and more importantly it makes me money.

There is No unity amongst drivers DM and now with a lot of immigrants driving taxies the chance fer any kind of unity is even further out of reach, you need to accept this as a fact.

I would agree with Hal on all that, I also drive what Sclass refers to as a jap shit heap which I don't agree with, my Joe is clean and in perfect working order. IMO the old Avensis was the best ever car fer a taxi and I hope to get another 4 years out of mine (on double NCT).

Be interesting to know how many Taxi drivers Don't agree with the 10 year rule.
VRT should be waved for Taxi drivers.
Although the powers say we're not commercial vehicles.
It would help to improve the fleet.
