https://techcrunch.com/2018/10/29/europes-most-popular-ride-hailing-service-is-launching-e-scooters/

Mytaxi, the Daimler-owned Uber competitor, announced today it would launch an electric scooter pilot in Southern Europe later this year, with a full international roll-out planned for 2019.

Daimler  initially took a 15 percent stake in Hamburg-based mytaxi in 2012, adding the company to its portfolio of ridesharing businesses that also includes Chauffeur Privé, Careem, Flinc, car2go and Hailo, which merged with mytaxi in 2016.

The company has yet to unveil its scooters’ brand name, but says it will use the Segway ES4 Sharing Scooter.

“The E-scooter market is highly dynamic and the interest from users is booming in a lot of international cities,” mytaxi chief executive officer Eckart Diepenhorst said in a statement. “We see a significant growth potential for mytaxi here and a perfect complement to our existing taxi business as E-scooters are mostly used for short tours of around one to two kilometers. Although ride lengths strongly vary between taxi and scooter business, we think about potential combinations of both areas.”

Mytaxi was founded in 2009 and says it has since transported 10 million passengers via 100,000 registered drivers. Before Daimler acquired the remaining stake in the startup in 2014, mytaxi had raised some $13 million from Deutsche Telekom  Capital Partners, T-Venture, Deutsche Telekom Capital Partners, car2go and others.

Lime  and Bird, a pair of well-funded e-scooter startups, have emerged as the front-runners of the already over-crowded e-scooter market. Still, it seems all ride-hailing and bike-sharing businesses are going to try their hand at scooters.

Taxify,  another European Uber competitor, is one of the most recent companies to announce plans to release scooters in Europe.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I heard this morning on the news, mytaxi are in negotiations with the NTA To allow drivers charge more at peak times.whats in t for them is,the hope to attract more drivers into the industry,as a result.these people are actively canvassing for more drivers, and the existing drivers see nothing wrong with that.what next ?

Get with the programme, DM. mytaxi have been actively recruiting drivers since the recession ended. They pay for test fees and offer €1,000 bonus on passing.

Surge pricing is a smokescreen, they just want to get NTAs ear to further their lobbying for rideshare. If they wanted surge pricing they could simply allow riders offer a tip on a job by job basis with the tip on offer displayed on the job offer. Obviously they could refine systems to suggest appropriate tips based on current levels of demand and such like... no change in regulation required and drivers would take more so they would keep more commission.

Drivers aren’t covering the work at peak times so they know they will be screwed over busier periods in the run up to Christmas and new year and the annual “there isn’t enough taxis in Dublin” from the people who rarely use taxis.

It's never mentioned that any of the other forms of public transport are non existent after a certain time,Luas finishes at 12.30, at chrimbo it finishes at around 2am(most venues still hoppin at that time),The Vomit Comets finish at 4am but only go from Westmoreland St/D'olier St...ye need to get there by foot or taxi!!
But don't worry....they'll be Talking to Joe.

Exactly. New York is actually cosmopolitan and revellers need never go home whatsoever. Let them stay open 24/7............Mickey D's can do it and still maintain a certain level of decorum.

They wouldn't all need to be there if the clubs didn't have to close. A staggered night's work counters the mad rush.

There is no excuse for blatantly robbing work from an OFFICIAL RANK just 10 yards away.it seems to me there is no point in trying to do the right thing.same down at the boat.in outside PWC,and robbing cunts right outside the boat.same in Dame st .im on the city bar rank ,cunts parked up along the okd central bank robbing work fron the OFFICIAL rank.its the same all over ,everywhere there is an OFFICIAL rank, there is robbing cunts just yards away taking the work. I dont know why the cops,or NTA ,wont hant out 1000 euro fines

Different issue, Dalyer, but I agree about the "right thing" becoming harder to do. The NTA was set up just as the HSE was, Dalyer.........to deflect blame from ministers and to ensure the "accountability" everyone demands never actually materialises. Last count there were 14 such Quangos in the Dept of Education..........fuck knows how many in Justice and Law Reform etc. Read "1984" and, or, "Animal Farm" by George Orwell........very informative.
