I think so. There's Quest and Quest Red, I sometimes watch crime documentaries on the latter after work if I've nothing recorded, midnightish... Didn't know it's on terrestrial TV in the UK, my aerial in the attic that picks up BBC, UTV, etc doesn't pick it up so I only have it on satellite... but it is a FTA channel.

i could be wrong but I think Mr Hearn has a share in it...........the Scottish Open (Snooker) was on it recently. I like watching the lads pulling 18 wheelers oot(sic) from icy embankments.

Quite possibly. I think there was some restructuring after Sky significantly cut fees it pays for broadcasting Discovery's channels on it's platform a few years back.

Eurosport & Quest to show BDO World Darts Championships

Eurosport has signed a deal to broadcast three of the biggest tournaments on the British Darts Organisation calendar for the next three years in the UK.

Starting from January 2019, darts fans will be able to watch the three highest-profile tournaments in the BDO circuit on Eurosport, including the World Professional Darts Championships in January, followed later in the year by the World Darts Trophy and the BDO World Masters in September.

Additionally, in a commitment to ensure the BDO World Championships remain on terrestrial television for the 42nd consecutive year, Discovery-owned channel Quest will also share coverage of all three events with Eurosport, providing both live coverage and highlights programming to free-to-air audiences.

Eurosport and Quest take over as rights holders for the BDO World Championships from Channel 4 and BT Sport, who shared coverage of the tournament in 2017 and 2018. Channel 4 took over the terrestrial reigns of the tournament from the BDO’s former long-standing TV partner the BBC, which pulled out of covering BDO darts in 2016.

Alongside comprehensive TV coverage across Freeview, Freesat, cable and satellite, Eurosport and Quest’s BDO darts coverage will also be available to watch by the subscription service Eurosport Player and via catch-up on Quest OD.

In addition to exclusive UK rights, Eurosport, which has long been a broadcasting partner of the BDO across the UK, Europe and globally, will also show all three tournaments exclusively live in the Netherlands and Australia.

Emir Osmanbegovic, Eurosport SVP Sports Content & Production, said:

“We’re delighted to secure world-class action for these three darts-crazy markets. Darts offers unscripted drama and an incredible spectacle. We are looking forward to bringing this theatre to millions of darts fans in the UK, Netherlands and Australia.”

Des Jacklin, chairman of the BDO, added:

“Eurosport have for many years been a great broadcast partner and supporter of the BDO. It is fantastic to see them get the opportunity to show the BDO World Professional Darts Championships in the UK for the first time and to give us a nine event three-year commitment for the UK, Netherlands and Australia.

“The live terrestrial coverage on Quest continues the tradition of the BDO World Professional Darts Championships having been broadcast on a terrestrial channel for 41 years. We have been committed to securing this long-term broadcasting contract so we can focus our attentions on further improving the BDO for the players and supporters alike.”

Eurosport and Quest’s exclusive BDO darts coverage begins on 5 January 2019 with the Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships.

A memorable men’s final in 2018 saw Englishman Glen Durrant picking up the £100,000 winners’ cheque after narrowly beating compatriot Mark McGeeney, to retain the world title.

Likewise, after winning the thrilling final in 2018 against Anastasia Dobromyslova 4-time winner Lisa Ashton is returning in 2019 to try and make it three in a row.

BDO darts coverage adds to Quest’s growing free-to-air sports portfolio which includes EFL and Carabao Cup highlights, live Home Nations snooker events and British Superbikes.

As well as confirmation of a new television deal for its flagship events, the BDO has also confirmed that the Lakeside Country Club will host the 2019 edition of the World Professional Championships. The Frimley Green venue has hosted the event since 1986.

Further details of Eurosport and Quest’s presenting team and commentary line-up for its BDO darts coverage will be confirmed in due course.

Used to watch Eurosport non-stop when they had exclusive coverage of European Judo comps. Big Teddy from France was a sight to behold.

Another fiver down this afternoon with Lennon losing to Norris in a cracking game that went all the way to an 11th leg tie breaker in the final set. I'm sure he's pissed off now but in the fullness of time he ought to able to find plenty of positives in his performance. Bunting gone too, LL...

Yeah. His "comeback" was a flash in the pan. He's Ted Hankey on Xanax.

Mensur gone too which will probably please Willie O'Connor but your man Ryan Searle played quite well in the first round of the Players Championship Finals and took eventual winner Daryl Gurney to a deciding leg in the second round in a game I didn't see... with both players finding their form that has the makings of a decent contest. Something's definitely clicked with O'Connor, I remember him taking on the crowd a few months back when he played Hopp in Germany with an air of aggression that was completely out of character and now he's probably playing better than ever... personally I think it's Lennon's rise through the ranks that's got his back up... he spent years playing second fiddle (albeit marginally) to Mick McGowan so probably feels he should be Irish number 1 given that Mick stopped playing on the pro circuit earlier in the year.

A bear that has been poked? Thought he walked into it myself when I saw him in Germany. The darting gemeinschaft really wound him up. The darts world order is in metamorphosis. I'm expecting some unheard of wearing a skirt with an Adam's apple to rise to the throne...harder to push one through in snooker as the Spider and Bridge can challenge a tight skirt.

A few non dyke females in snooker might rekindle my interest from a viewing perspective, used to watch it in the 80s/90s but lost interest as the years went on. Price lost last night, costing me another score... €40 down before round 3 starts! Clayton gone too so the last Welsh man standing, Jamie Lewis (impressive in this event last year), will probably beat Gurney in their round 3 game this afternoon and take another score outta my phoca!

Tenner double today on Reyes and Anderson(Kyle)..........not much of a chance but I live in hope. I agree with Adrian Lewis when he said there's too many in this competition. Aspinall deserved his win........glad for him.

Aspinall was always capable of beating Price hence I mentioned the discrepancy in their odds before the game (Price 20/1, Aspinall 500/1)... similarly he's capable of beating anyone in the path to the semi finals. He'd probably have to get lucky to go further but the professional punters would be looking at laying off by then. I was a bit pissed off having backed Price at 80s because he would have been capable of progressing beyond the semis and because he let a 2-0 set lead slip but then he went 5-0 or 5-1 up in Minehead before losing 6-5.

O'Connor losing was the most disappointing result to date. For whatever reason he just looked under incredible pressure from the off, the space between his ears was clearly far too cluttered. I guess the match of the tournament to date was Gary Anderson scraping through against Wattimena who woulda beat anyone else except van Gerwen with the form he found. Gurney cost me a score but, to be honest, he was pure shite and didn't deserve the match dart he somehow got. It'd be nice to see Jamie Lewis go a bit further, he seems to thrive on the big stage atmosphere.

Good win for Aspinall, beating Kyle Anderson 4-1. I reckon he's earned a place on my youngsters to watch list, alongside Jamie Lewis and Dimitri van den Burgh who both impressed in this contest last year and are still in the running for this year's title.... and, of course, our own Steve Lennon. Wob Cwoss has turned up, too... showed a bit of the form that won him last year's title after a sluggish start in beating Reyes 4-0. It woulda been hard to predict him successfully defending his title based on recent form combined with a relatively lacklustre year on the circuit... maybe he's an ally pally specialist?

Shoulda mentioned Brendan Dolan, too... the only (Norn) Irishman left in the competition. Through to a career best last 16 and playing as well as he's ever played. No doubt he'll fancy going a bit further. Like Aspinall he's capable of beating anyone on the path to the semis if he maintains his current form.
