Poxy Nine (Ten) Year Rule
« on: January 22, 2019, 11:00:07 am »
My sean shitebox went for it's NCT this morning... second day in a row I've been up at the crack of dawn although I had to rope the brother into driving it as, technically, I still own it so I wouldn't be insured... I know I could have filled in the change of ownership bit of the VRC but I couldn't post it 'cos it's required for the NCTS so best to keep the eyes dotted and the teas crossed as I need ny driving licence for work anall.

Anywaysanall it passed with flying colours... well actually it failed 'cos the hazard light switch was stuck... only a minor issue which was caused by me removing the meter but repaired at no cost and ready for the formality of the free retest. Apart from that, just advisory fails on both the rear tyres - below 3.0mm tread depth. Woulda easily got another year out of it, probably...
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

My 2007 Avensis still going strong , in before the 10 Yr Rule, so apart from the 6 month tests hopefully should serve me for a few more years.

It's like wearing old shoes, you swear by them. When you change you're asking the shop assistant for the bin.

Wear well.

@ Shallowhal - is there much of a wait for the NCT?  Assuming you're in Dublin?  Got to do mine soon and can't be arsed doing the NCT until I have to!

Yeah, the 10yr rule is a bit of a bollox.  Or 15yrs in my case.  My Octavia is 11 yrs old and rust free.  The radio works!

And the inside isn't too shabby.  Though when people drop coins on the carpet, I tell them not to risk it picking up the coins as they might catch something.  I credit them the coins and say I'll get them later  lol
Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

You should ransack Mrs Catchers motor nua and see if anything is compatible with your motor.

I work Dublin but my test was for Drogheda,
My 90 day window for arranging my NCT starts on Dec 25...but with the hollyers i tend to leave it till Jan to get a date, this year i rang on Jan 2nd and the earliest date she could give me was Jan 24th which i took and it passed,my wifes car was due an NCT aswell and she booked hers online on the same day that i did and she had a choice of dates, she picked Jan 11th,maybe she had a better choice cos her NCT was due on Jan 19th and mine was good until the end of Feb....but really we should be given a better choice of dates because our renewal is a two part test(NCT and LRA) and if the car should fail the NCT and require parts to be ordered and fitted and then organising a retest it eats into your licence renewal time,
I'll arrange the LRA on Mon....i've me new door sticker fitted and me back seat rip repaired so i'm good to be relieved of 150 blips.

Maybe I was just lucky. My Nct was due on 28 Jan.I rang them on Dec 12 to book test in Ballymun and got a test on 14th at 10.am.Thankfully the car passed.

LRA was due on 6th of Feb and I rang them 2 weeks ago and got a test 1 week later.January ,February and July are the busy months in the NCT centers so don't leave it to late to book your test.

My recent experience:

Dealer tried to book NCTS online for my shitebox nua on Jan 4 and the best he could get was Jan 15 in Drogheda. I suggested he ring the PSV line and he got the 9th in Greenhills, much closer to his dealership in Ballymount... that was without giving any plate details.

Booked NCTS for Mrs. Catchers shitebox nua on the 10th and got 22nd in Drogheda, my centre of choice - eve though it was booked in as private it had to be booked on the PSV line as the car was registered as a taxi.

LRA for my shitebox nua took about a week, booked on the 16th and tested on the 23rd at my centre of choice, Ballymun. 22nd was also available in Ballymun and 21st was available elsewhere. The lady did say it's a particularly busy time of year though.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

The 3 month window has changed slightly, Hal.... the LRA now has to be done within 2 months of the NCT i.e. if you get the shitebox NCT'ded 3 months before your licence expires you need to complete the renewal process a month before expiry. Obviously, where there's no change of vehicle the new licence runs from the day after expiry of the old one regardless of when it is issued.

I think Watty's shitebox is MKI... but the erm's already sent me a list of the bits he need to borrow for his next NCT!
