Think it was Fahey or Henderson who said if people knew what went on behind the scenes they'd never put a penny on a horse again. Most of the big-time trainers know the perils.

Many years ago when I had a "Real Job" the boss builder from next door came in and asked could he park his car in our car park, me being the nice guy said yeah.

Anyways he came back later and asked did I back Horses, he gave me a tip and said it was a dead cert as they had it organised, put a few quid on and it obliged .

Few days later he came in early in the morning and gave us another tip, later on in the day came back in and told us not to back it as "They" had changed there mind and it would not win.

Funny things go on in that racing world  >:(

I had a customer who said his mate is a professional gambler, whatever that means.Anyway he said his mate bets tens of thousands on single races and it wouldn't be unusual for him to pay 500 for a tip or inside information straight from the stables.Could be bollix but why wouldn't horse racing be fixed it's just a made up sport for midgets. You'd hardly call it entertainment.Remove the gambling and nobody would watch it.

I remember a window manufacturer in Walkinstown had a horse Paddys Return he gave it to one or two lads with instructions to keep it quiet .It was backed from 16/1 down to 5s off course and when the owner turned up in Nass Racecourse t hve a bet the horse was 9/2 he instructed the jockey to pull it the jockey was furious as he was on but he stopped it everybody who lost their cash was furious until your man told them to fuck themselves he only told three or four what he thought were trusted men .It was a 3and a half mile handicap hurdle it was running in the race was won by Copse Reviver .Paddys return ran three weeks later and won at 14/1 .I remember it well had just moved house bought sitting room carpets hall stairs and landing plus a new suit from Des Kelly and Bargaintown had £50 on it .FFs 800 and you could carpet and furnish a house happy days .

At the top level its probably fair as they are racing for breeding  rights and the horses are drug tested but the 3.45 from Pontyfract there might be 10 horses with only two or three actually trying to win and two or three who are medically unfit the trainer and jockey know but the owner wants a day at the races .I worked for Alan Tuttill a well known bookie in Dublin  he use to say if it can talk let it walk .Boxing Snooker darts ant man on man sport he didnt want to know as the players could decide the outcome between themselves and bet with the bookie so they both came away with the same amount .I think it was Rex Williams of the WPSBSA who suggested that snooker players playing in a final should back their opponent so if they lost the match they would win the difference between first and second money from the bookie .The game is not straight thats why I like betting on Politics you cant bribe millions of voters .
