is it a good business to rent a few taxis or is it more hassle than its worth? the owner pays for servicing? what about tyres and repairs?

All running costs are the responsibility of the vehicle owner, look st it this way, the same would apply if you were driving the taxi as an owner anyway and owner drivers can make a profit after costs pretty fast. If you put 30 or 40 euro away for maintenance per week there's no reason you shouldn't have enough to cover costs, everything else is profit if you don't have to pay out for bank loans. Depends on your personal circumstances.

I'd say the more you have, the better,as you'd need to average the huge irregular bills over the fleet.

Thanks for the replies so far.

seeing as im a WAT driver, had to buy a WAT as i started in 2016. could i buy saloon taxis to rent or just WATS?

There doesn't seem to be many taxis for rent on done deal, are many people renting these days? i always thought it was madness to rent to be honest. unless you got one for 100 a week. 200 per week is a lot to pay though.

Remember the other threads about new drivers coming on stream. For the first time in ten years we actually have more drivers joining the fleet than leaving.Expect rental prices to climb in the short term.

Lad on the Kileen Road junction with Nanger rents them for the weekend .Plenty parked up there and Rialto during the week .A lot of renters took the coin and bought a WAT and if rideshare does come in down the country a lad would be stupit not to rent out his licenced taxi to a driver in the City and plate up a private car to cover his rideshare and existing customers .

Lad working a City should be able to make a living driving a licenced taxi but when you hear of licenced taxies doing 5 euro local fares why would he bother supplying a 9 year old or younger vehicle and all the suitabilities. If I was working the sticks I would rideshare a Hiace .The whole rideshare thing is a red herring any driver worth his licence snares the good fares from the apps the same will happen with rideshare especially local jobs just hand out your card or phonenumber .

Don’t know of any taxi drivers not making a living in Cork.
Taxi business in Cork is booming.
Not sure where you are getting the fiver fares though.

Ride share is unnecessary.
You have local link and Hackneys down the bog.
It is a shoehorn for uber in Ireland.
