There you go......Fucking VAG...........money-pits.

Not as bad as you might think. My MKII Octy cost €2,899 to maintain for the 5 years I used it as a taxi. They're certainly not as well built as Toyotas but then they're a lot cheaper to buy.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Diesel? The Merc brand always promised no change for the chain but that was 20 yrs or so ago I think.

As you may have guessed I'm not a happy camper today.

Went for me NCT and the cnut failed me on a "Frayed/Cut CV Boot".

My mechanic had checked this only last week and all looked Ok, bit a wear.

I'm convinced the NCT'r used his mickey to Fray and cut it
Change both.
Should take less than an hour.

Could just be the fan belt or the tensioner! Check the simple things first apbefore thinking of big expenses.

Unless of course your mechanic said that it’s the timing chain.

I use the NCT to tell me what’s wrong with my car

And a cv boot can look ok to your mechanic one day but the next it can be torn, also the boot might have been dirty when your mechanic looked at it and you then washed the underneath for the NCT

Went for NCT again yesterday, failed on Imbalance on Front Suspension, 2 new shocks for me 07 Avensis, should see me through until It has to retire in 2022, or I die before then

If your running anything over 5 years put aside 500 for running repairs .We abuse cars probably go over a million or more speed bumps a few hundred thousand pot holes clatter foot paths a five year old taxi is equivlent to a ten year old civilian motor .its just another cost of trying toearn a living .
