The company has made four submissions to the NTA that focus on how Uber can improve transport in Ireland, but until recently the firm had not received a written response.

However in a letter addressing the US tech giant’s request to run a pilot in Limerick, the NTA stated that the scheme was “undesirable” and would cause unfair competition to licensed taxis.

I was reading an interview done with tommy grangegorman a while back.
he was saying there'd been a week long deadlock in the deregulation negotiations.
a few of the union heads went in to find out what the story was and then he got a call that night to say the industry was being totally deregulated.

Nothing. The dogs in the street and their wives know what's coming........but there's a few yrs left in the cities yet.

mytaxi has some HSE work... getting that work covered is a matter of life and death. Also, mytaxi has successfully encouraged taxi/hackney/clapped out shitebox masquerading as limousine drivers from rural areas to work in the cities thereby depriving rural areas of a service and creating a "problem" it can solve with FreeShare, FreeRural or whatever.

I guess if mytaxi/moovel/Jurbey/FreeP2P rideshare is deemed desirable they would have to allow other firms compete on equal terms.

very quiet night in the town i was working last night, uber wouldn't have made much.

Would mytaxi have made much or could it have spared drivers to cover patient/drunk transfers in one of the big cities if it had drivers?

id say taxis would make more in the town using ranks and street hails as they are visible and moving around, people just want to get home asap, they dont usually care about the cost. i got 80 euro for a 60 euro fare, i said 60 was ok but they insisted as they were delighted to get a lift home, some taxis refused them as it was a long journey.

What about the hackneys and clapped out shiteboxes masquerading as limousines that mytaxi use up above in Dublin... would they be able to use ranks and accept street hails in your town? Would the P2P rideshare cars advocated by mytaxi/moovel/Hail0/Jurbey/FreeLift or whatever it's called these days be able to use ranks and accept street hails?
