Just got a phone call to say there is a major breaking news story of 180 foreigners arrested involved in a taxi scam in Dublin.

This breaking news story looks to be very big,the Gardai say they have only scratched the surface so far,and have already made 180 arrests. I feel totally vindicated for my ongoing claims that these people were not being properly vetted .it goes much deeper that that it is a downright scam by non EU nationals.you will read all about it tomorrow if you dont believe me

You dont understand the issue Dollymount .Its not a scam.Its a legal loophole .The Dep of Justice were told by me years ago but the Minister chose not to shut the hole .

NO its not a scam.What has happened is immigration have asked why so many non nationals WORK in the taxi industry and they have become aware that there is no work visa requirement to apply for a taxi psv driving licence .As based on a high court and Supreme court rulung a taxi driving licence IS NOT A LICENCE TO WORK .It is not illegal to hold a spsv driving licence but it is illegal to work without a work visa .I explained this issue live on the Pat Kenny Show years ago none of the rep bodies gave a shit .

THIS MIGHT EXPLAIN IT >....Comes back to dereg .Judge tells existing taxi licence holders if he was to give them an extra licence that they could put them in their back pocket as there was no requirement for a licence holder to operate that licence as a taxi licence was not a licence to work and nothing would change .This sentence had a couple of legal connotations .it meant  that you needed no work visa to apply for a licence plus if you held a licence YOU did not have to operate it but you could allow somebody else rent it .The judges rulung removed any requirement to be the owner of the licence or needing a work visa to operate it .I wrote and explained this to the Department of justice and their reply was that An Garda siocana were the issuing authority  end of story .

Too many part time drivers doing 10 hours a week anyway.

Whats your problem with legal part time drivers .Would you prefer all legal drivers to be competing with you full time for every fare ?

Were you asked when you did the test if you had a work visa ? NO

If you rent a car from a MPO does he have to ask you if you have a work visa or a SPSV drivers licence .Only an SPSV .

 So at no stage in the process is there stated that you need a work visa to drive a taxi .A high court judge once stated that a taxi licence was not a licence to work .This is a legal Grey area that will need to be adjudicated on in an actual court case .You need a tax clearance cert annually to renue your vehicle licence but only every 5 years for drivers SPSV renual .You do not need a work visa to apply for a tax cert .

I bet this drum for years but nobody wanted to listen .When I pointed this out to the department of justice they said it had nothing to do with them as the Gards issued licences .

You can be arrested on suspicion of anything, Dalyer. We'll see..............bit of money in this for the wigs and gowns. Or, it might be a smokescreen for some other recognisable crime such as bigamy or marriage fraud etc.

Nobody said nothing illegal had taken place weobjected to the word scam .

My info is that none of these people involved in this were even entitled to be in Ireland
