Paddys Day
« on: March 11, 2019, 08:56:22 am »
Had an American Couple in the car Yesterday (yes I did work a Sunday ) They asked what was the tradition of St Paddy and was 17 March His Birthday .I told them that Arthur Guinness was born on 17 th of March 1756 and that St Patricks day was invented by Guinness when they saw how commercially profitable it was for Coke Cola inventing Santy .Girl said she knew Santy wasent real but never knew that St Patrick was made up .Then she said they had been to the Guinness Factory and they never told them .I was Dropping them at Saint Patricks Cathedrial and they knew about Swift  she was an English Major in College so I told them the Lilliputions were really Leprecauns and like the Da Vinci Code if they read Gullivers travels the secret to where to find Leprecauns in Ireland was coded in the book and the secret lay in the display of flags in the Cathedrial .

I was driving down Barrow Street one day on the way to the port with two english people and I pointed out Misery Hill and Ropemans Walk which is gone now but ran right through the recievers offices .I told them that the Gallows use to be situated down there and Misery Hill was nemed that because the condemed man would have to walk that road and it would seem like walking up hill as it was your last walk and that Ropemans Walk was the road used by the Hangman to get to the gallows without having to go through the audiance that would gather for the hanging .Man says I was a great guide they never heard that story before .I told him it was a story close to my heart as my great Granny was the last woman hanged in Ireland .

Salt of the earth .I was going to tell them it was a family tragedy as her husbands brother was the Hangman but I thought that might be a bit too much .

Do you believe Cucullin or Galloping O Hogan or the salmon of knowledge were real or a Bloke either from France or Wales depending on the version of the story chased snakes out of Ireland .

If you're exploiting tourists with your lies then you should be ashamed of yourself....as I said, you're doing your country a great disservice. MyTaxi would be disgusted....just not the done thing. The Priest saying the mass doesn't demand payment at the end of the trip........
