Looks like there will be a demonstration?

Is it a 10 oclock mass exodus?

Your representatives informed the Oireachtas Comittee that taxi drivers are terrible business planners and that the Taxi industry does not pay .The Solution to providing a reliable service looks like Rideshare private hire .Your representatives look like they have conceded defeat even with up to 20K available to taxi drivers in Grants they cannot afford to replace their cars .
Your Reps are talking to Committees who have probably never even been in a taxi telling them the Present taxi model is not fit for purpose .Just a thought If I was to Address the Oireachtas Transport Comittee .I would of Asked .
When are the NTA going to put in place a ride Hailing App for taxi drivers that is Commission Free to aid PASSENGERS get a Taxi .The Goodbody Report had aspirations that ALL drivers be aligned to a Dispatcher .As it is Beyond the remit of the NTA or Taxi Regulator to Impose any outside Commercial impediment on how Taxis Operate .It has always been Taxi Drivers understanding that the NTA was in fact going to provide the Hailing App as infrastructure just a digital Rank not a Commercial implement that would interfere with any other Cost based service provider as the NTA application would not collect or distribute any monies due to the Drivers .
The one piece of infrastructure that would solve the availability of taxis and reduce emissions as the nearest taxi would get first refusal would be a TFI operated taxi hailing App.
My follow up would of been .
Now that ALL taxis MUST accept Credit or Debit cards there is no Commercial interest served by a TFI operated Hailing App so no Existing Commercial Apps can claim undue interference by the TFI in their Commercial Operations .
That is how you Represent an Industry not tell them you and your mates have failed to provide the service you were licenced to do .

There's a few new ID4s around where I live and the drivers changed early too to get ahead of the pack.If there's gonna be any backtracking on the rules they'd wanna get their finger out.

Why would there be a backtracking on the Rule ,The Covid extension was more to do with the fact we were limited to travel 5K so could not get to a Garage to buy or the Garages were closed .The decision to extend would be Down to the Minister For Transport Young Onion Head .Do you think he will extend dirty Diesels after putting a few million on the table in Grants to Taxi Drivers ,Grants no other transport provider got .If he was to extend the Age Limit he probably would withdraw the Grants .
-
I won't be taking any grants so it doesn't bother me.There wasn't a plan to have us all going electric. It was meant to be just enough of us so that the public would consider it a viable option.
Remember the Gardai and ambulance service still drive diesels.Buses are still diesel, even the new ones.
Eamon Ryan's ministeral car is a Diesel Audi. It's all window dressing IMO.I'm not falling for it but you may be.
I'm late for work..

You are getting the Picture Merch .If we all went ESB they couldnt supply the Power .The American Pension Funds invested in off shore wind wont stand for the EU nonsence of taxing the excessive profits .If the EU tax the Wind we wont reach our 2030 Carbon reduction figures this Century .Eamo and his Millionaire mate Cuffe were shouting about all the Billions the EU were going to give us from Windfall taxes until Vonda from Germany said no money just the Go ahead from Europe to Impose a tax .Do you think FF/Fg are going to over tax American Investors in Ireland to help the People ?Did they tax the windfall profits of big Pharma that made hundreds of Billions out of flogging Vaccines to help pay for the PUP .The whole Electric World Nonsense has been exposed as Bolloxology .We need oil and Gas to turn into Electricity .

This civilised industrial world depends and was developed with fossil fuel.If you have it in your back garden great!…I cannot believe that this 10 year rule is going to be enforced. Its madness I tell you. The costs are way too high in this game and It means that you have to work, long hours to get ahead of headless bodies like the NTA,Methrology, and Testing, sucking the life out of you and your family. They have gone too far this time! ::fds

Would the banks not give taxi drivers loans for new cars? or could they maybe switch to renting a taxi?
-
You all seem to be forgetting .It was your Representatives who complained to an Oireachtas Committee years ago about certain drivers paying coin to pass the NCT .The Taxi thingey had no control over that but they brought in a Suitability to make sure of the Standard of Cars .It was Your Representatives who Complained to a Dail Committee that bangers were being plated up by multi plate owners . We got a 9 year rule .Reps complained about out of town drivers working their patch we got area stickers .Everything we got we asked for .
Read the Oireactas Committee from this week .Your Representatives told the Committee that there is a lack of taxis late night and the present model of Licenced taxis is not financially viable .(What way do you think they will react ?)
I have said this loads of times .Do not ask a question unless you already know the answer .Why would the Oireachtas Transport Committee invite you to talk to them ?If they wanted Cart Blanch to introduce Rideshare your representatives just gave them the Opportunity .They heard Full time Drivers wont work nights cannot afford to replace expensive cars .The Solution to that is to allow dispatchers like UBER or Free Now or Vinny run a fleet of Rideshare Hacks to solve the taxi shortage ..
The Dail dont see the Problem from your perspective .There are more votes in Passengers than Drivers ..never forget that .
-
There are taxi shortages all over the world. All the reps want is a few extra year's on the taxis. Not an unreasonable request. The rest is all noise.

TheJournal.ie published this story over a decade ago.... Just saying :P Transport authority set to ease new rules on taxi ages (https://www.thejournal.ie/transport-authority-eases-new-rules-on-taxi-ages-88234-Feb2011/)
THE NATIONAL TRANSPORT AUTHORITY has announced it is to revoke the ‘nine-year rule’ for taxi registrations, following complaints by cab drivers that the expense of replacing older vehicles was making the trade unsustainable. The Authority – which assumed the functions of the Commission for Taxi Regulation on January 1 of this year – this morning said it was to revoke the rule, which requires that cars used as taxis be no older than nine years of age, for drivers renewing their licences in 2011 and who had sought their first licence before January 2009. The decision means that taxi drivers who have been in the trade for over two years will now not be bound by the rule requiring them to replace their cars once they reach a certain age. Transport minister Pat Carey said he welcomed the decision, and also hailed the decision by the NTA to begin a wider consultation on the standards taxi drivers and passengers should expect from the vehicles being used in the profession.
The authority said in a statement that it was to make “a review of appropriate vehicle standards for taxis”, for the benefit of the taxi customer, a main priority for 2011.
<snip>
The ‘nine year rule’ was originally proposed by the Commission for Taxi Regulation in 2006, and had been set for introduction in 2007, but implementation was put off until 2012 after the taxi industry complained that many drivers had taken out five-year loans for their vehicles – some of which would have been made unusable by the new rule. The rule took effect last month, having been fast-tracked through by the Commission – with taxi drivers again opposing the move. Today’s announcement follows election campaigning by both Fine Gael and Sinn Féin on taxi regulation in the past weeks; the latter’s document included a promise to carry out a full review of the ‘nine year rule’.
And in 2014, the NTA started talking about the 15 year rule in a 2014 newsletter -->https://www.nationaltransport.ie/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/NTA_Small_Public_Service_Vehicles_Leaflet_-_Web_Version1.pdf (https://www.nationaltransport.ie/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/NTA_Small_Public_Service_Vehicles_Leaflet_-_Web_Version1.pdf)
The 9/10/15 year rule has been around for almost a decade and age limits were put back 3 times during the lockdown. Any you get a reminder every time you do the suitability.
How much notice do youse really need ::fds
-
Watty if you had to fork out 32.5k for your current vehicle you might think differently...
The registration plate is not a good metric of the quality of the vehicle and never has been.My heap has been NCT'd more than most of the fleet.I'm going with the flow and upgrading but I'd be pissed off getting rid of a 2013 Prius to replace it with a 2017 Prius at huge expense with all the inflation stuff.
Drivers won't actually leave they'll just buy shittier vehicles like Dacias and Renaults.
-
I had the cash money for a 2nd hand Prius at the time but couldn't ignore the EV grant... Like everyone else in a 10yr+ taxi, I was getting twice yearly reminders when my old Octavia was due to die.
Edit: I'm sure there are people out there struggling - you only have to read the papers to see the country & the world is fukked for the next few years. But the 9/10/15 yr rule is not new news. Will extending it another year or two really make a difference?
-
The Big Issue is the Greens .They wont want dirty Diesels left on the Road .They wont even allow the Carbon tax be delayed in the upcoming budget .Strange how reps use to complain about too many taxis and double jobbers now they complain we have not enough of either .
-
"Will extending it another year or two really make a difference?"
Hard to know. We're lucky its reasonably busy. The cost of secondhand vehicles are way too high. You'd get yourself something for a few years then you're back in the same situation all over again.
I'm ok with finding the funds.. but other lads might not have the resources after being parked up during Covid. The ten year rule was invented during a time when a new vehicles were 20% cheaper than they are now. That 20%(guesstimate) extra has to come from somewhere.
The fleet is dramatically cleaner than it was ten years ago, even if we exclude all the leccy taxis.
-
I just done me tax returns and this time last year I was parked up or getting ready to dip me toe in the water..If Covid never happened we would have been better prepared to change.
It's hard to believe we're only back in business properly less than a year.
-
If they extend the 10 year rule it should be extended by 5 years.
area stickers were a great addition by the way.
-
Merch Operation Friends with No Faces is up and running .To get the Yee Haws out of town from Croker more trains ,Luas dart and Bus have been put on .They have proved that people will use those services if they are available .When Go Bus entered the Irish market they said they would offer a Limited 24 hour service if they could get the Public Service Levy for late night busses at present the levy does not apply to journeys starting after Midnight .The Oireachtas Comittee were told by Taxi Drivers that there was a lack of late night transport .Busses would be economic and less polluting per Km traveled .Come into my parlour said the spider to the fly .Transport committee could be looking for an excuse to subsidize more late night public transport .More busses for Dublin ,Cork and Galway and Rural Hacks for the rest of the country .Lots of votes in more bus services ?
-
Here's a few numbers..
In late 2012 I bought a secondhand 2006 Prius for about 6k.If the ten year rule was applied it would have been gone in 2016.
To get a similar spec vehicle now with three years of usage it now costs at least 15/16k.
The vehicle might be worth more at the end but it's still a huge increase in costs before any fuel increases.
That's a big difference that wont be balanced out by any 12% fare increase.
If it wasn't so busy we'd all be whinging a lot more.
-
Putting aside €100/wk for 3 years would get you €15,600. Belker has more or less posted his life history on here and even he managed to save something like €20k to buy his Avensis for cash.
Most of us have mortgages/rent, a leccy bill every 2 months and a TV bill every month etc. We don't wait until the money's due before we go looking for the cash. We plan ahead. As an EV owner, I know the next few leccy bills are gonna give me a heart attack so I'm putting a few extra quid aside for that. I know it's coming whether I like it or not!
-
I don't think we're all built to plan ahead. That's exactly why we're driving taxis.
There was a time when a hundred a week would have gotten you a rental. There was a time when a hundred was an acceptable days wages in the taxi. But when we say a hundred a week it sounds like a small amount of money. The folks on the dole only get twice that to live on..
The solution is a VRT rebate for new taxis but nobody seems to want it.We have some of the most expensive cars in the world.
-
i think they'll relax the 10 year rule.
a lotta drivers who have a jan, feb, march registered 2012 car will get fucked in to an abyss of uncertainty in the couple of months. remember a few years ago they fudged the age rules and roy on the other website had a fit because he had just hadta gerra newer car. it caused onset diabetes the stress of it.

I use Google Calendar to remind me. It's full of reminders about all my bills each month. My new insurance direct debit starts 1st Oct so I know I need to make an extra €60 next week and the week after until I get into a new routine with it.
Yeah, the so-called reps should be pushing ideas like that instead of just moaning about unfair life is. It's a win-win for everybody. Taxi driver is kept off the dole, the customer wins and the environment wins. And all for some tax the Govt wouldn't get if the driver ends up on the dole.
At least, we self-employed businesspeople are not getting leccy bills for €20,000/month like some shops and hotels :o

I don't think they will DMG, I reckon we have had all the extensions that we are gonna get.
The likely NTA thinking being that if we give them any more extensions then it will be the exact same problem when the new extensions run out !
As MFH said; "I don't think we're all built to plan ahead. That's exactly why we're driving taxis".

You got 10 years out of a 6K motor which you can now use as scrap value on a trade-in and still you complain ??
-
If I was complaining you'd know about it Belker. Some lads got off lightly with generous leccy car grants. The grants may not be available on their next change of vehicle and business might not be so good..I won't be taking the grant myself.I doubt any of those leccy motors will be still taxis in ten years.Hope I'm wrong.
Car prices have gone up considerably in the last few years. If you wrote off the Avensis tomorrow you might struggle to get a reasonably priced replacement. The market is messed up.
-
Putting aside €100/wk for 3 years would get you €15,600. Belker has more or less posted his life history on here and even he managed to save something like €20k to buy his Avensis for cash......
That was my old 6 year plan and it worked very well, even with a few tweaks along the way.
The week after I bought my 171 in 2019, I started a new 7 year savings plan to hopefully go new in 2027,
fer me saving in advance and paying in cash is a lot better than paying interest on a bank motor loan.
-
.......Some lads got off lightly with generous leccy car grants.......
As in the few forward thinking taxi drivers on here like Watty and Korky, Etc that I tip my hat to !
-
........ Car prices have gone up considerably in the last few years. If you wrote off the Avensis tomorrow you might struggle to get a reasonably priced replacement. The market is messed up.
I purposefully bought a 171 Avensis so that if it does get written off then my insurance will cover me fer a 181 Avensis, as they stopped making the Avensis in 2018.
-
I have a grant myself Belker. Most of us on here have approval. The leccy cars are no longer available at the cheaper prices that they once were.Korky and Watty might be regretting their decision if leccy prices keep jumping and power restrictions are enforced a year or two down the road.
It's that uncertainly that makes me happy that I'm not going to be going electric.Forward thinking is why I'm buying a new Corolla.Could be a shit idea but we will see in a few years when the leccy motors have done a few hundred thousand kilometers who was wrong. This leccy car thing is still an elaborate experiment.Ya might save a bit compared to a diesel but the savings are much smaller compared to a hybrid.
-

Insurance replaces like-with-like. Why would they give you a 2018 when there must be 1,000's of 2017 Avensissssss you could buy second-hand? And surely a 2017 Avensis taxi doesn't have the same value as a 2017 private Avensis?

(Without googling) I distinctly remember reading that if your car is written off then your insurance will replace it with the same car up to 2 years newer.
It was around the time that they stopped giving out cash payments fer cars that had met Mr Maguire and Paterson !
-

Honestly Belker it costs nothing to apply for it.Should I get caught out I can always pick up a leaf secondhand. My new car has not even been built yet.Think of the grant as an insurance policy.I believe Silver and Hal had approval too but may not use it.
Every time the leccy prices increase I'm less inclined to go electric.

Best of luck with the New Joe MFH, I have another 5 years on my Avensis but most likely I will join the Corolla brigade in 2027 with a Grey/Silver saloon with the leather seats.
-
As the saying goes, better to have the grant letter and not need it rather than need it and not have it!
It's worth noting that this is €15 million of EU money to be spent over 3 years. The NTA have it and I doubt they'll give it back. The Year 1 money ran out in Oct while the Year 2 (2022) money ran out initially in Feb (but some got re-released in Aug?) so the demand is there.
The question is what will the NTA do with the Year 2 money? Will the Year 2 letters be allowed to carry over to Year 3 or will Year 3 be a mega-dump of all the money? Or even a Year 4 if there's no EV's readily available?
-

I would never buy a brand new car for a taxi. does it not do your head in when they puke in your brand new car?
-
Hard to strategically plan for a investment in the game when the economic landscape is so unpredictable, myself I’ve 5 years and a bit left on my wanked out french panel van so an extension wouldn’t concern me.
However I wouldn’t want to be financed up to me hole on a new car just as the economy is nosediving, most of us here remember the bad days too well.
However there’s little options, buying a 9 year old shitbox will run ya the best part of €5k now, if I was in the position of having to upgrade the motor in 2023 I’d leave it until the plate ran out (giving the most of the window for the nta to offer another year extension) and then I’d rent a heep for €150 per week with the luxury to hand it back if the economy tanks.
-
"I would never buy a brand new car for a taxi. does it not do your head in when they puke in your brand new car? "
I've never had a poker on the days.

Yes I'm not really a new car type of bloke. It's not gonna be on finance thankfully.I'll be paying it off until the end of 2023 from my own emergency funds.
The new motor works works out at €3350 a year which is still looking cheaper than buying second hand Prius in the current market.
By going new I know the history and all the two-year-old Corollas are going for top money too so there's very little value out there.
As there will be 4500 of us upgrading any that come up for sale will be snapped up for the foreseeable future.I reckon there will be lads ringing Joe Duffy next year complaining that they can't source a decent replacement at a fair price.By going new I'm hopefully going to avoid that mess when my current heap expires.
The dealers already have order books filling up and they have limited supply for Q1.

On a serious note .
Q;Does the Present fleet of 20,000 cars have a future ?
A: No
Q; Why .
A: Transport integration .Luss,Dart,Rail ,Rent a bike or Scooter,Bus .The future will be Integrated Transport Hubs .Like Bus Arus take a Bus from the Country then a taxi last mile .Air port plane cab last mile .The TFI will intergrade more all transport links .They need to force more people off of the road and on to Public Transport .More late night busses will force taxis off the road more rent a bike or Scooter or Dart or Luas will force day time taxi drivers off the Road .If I was to forcast the Future for our industry I would say Back to the Future about 5000 licenced Taxis in Dublin and some sort of Rideshare on a Part time basis controled by Free Now or UBER when there is peak demand .Our Reps have set out this Scenario they said there is not enough income to replace a car and not enough taxis at peak demand .the TFI want their cake and eat it .Reduce Congestion and provide a bespoke transport service .London is the model they will follow and we asked for it .

People wont be forced to take a bus or train and a lot of people prefer to use taxis, lots of people have loads of money and just like the taxi picking them up at their house and dropping them to a hospital or hotel or wherever.

Does it take 20,000 taxis to cover those Jobs ?

Does it take 20,000 taxis to cover those Jobs ?
A lot of jobs for taxis is night time bring people home after a night out. busses cant do this job really, people want to be dropped at their door or they might be attacked on the walk from the bus stop to their house.

Do you need a Taxi to do that .Our Reps say there are not enough TAXI drivers willing to work Nights so UBER or Free Now Private Hire cars will cover that cheaper than a Licenced Taxi .TFI just want the cheapest option .

Greens want more busses less cars but they wont be around after the next election .Your Reps told the Comitteed TAXI drivers DONT Want to work Nights and cannot make enough money to change cars .So they think the System is broken thats according to your Industry Reps .Read what they said .There use to be a Time Trucks needed a Haulage Plate not any more .The Rules can change when the Government want them to .I still dont understand why our Industry go to Oireachtus Committees to Complain that they cannot do the Job they are Licensed to do .Im sure Free Now or Uber will offer a solution to the Issues Raised by the Industry .

OCCi its all bolloxology .There is not enough electricity on earth to give everybody light never mind feed your car engine .This shit is the Yanks dont want money going to Arabs or Russians for Fuel then they spend the money bribing other countries to Hate America .The EU think if they impose a Windfall Tax on Electricity Suppliers the Big investors who are going to pay for hundreds of thousands of Windmills or Solar Panels are going to Shut up and Continue to invest .we wont meet our Emissions Reductions by 2030 or even 50 we will never reach them its impossible .We need oil and Coal to make Electricity .Its an absolute Contradiction to say we dont need energy to convert into Electric Energy .you or Me will never be forced into owning a EV we wont live that long .Its Bolloxology of the Highest Order .Sure they dont want you to boil a kettle between 5 and 7 pm . rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl

Public Consultation on Proposed Small Public Service Vehicle (Contingency Measure – Vehicle Supply) (Maximum Permissible Age) Regulations
A Public Consultation on the proposed Small Public Service Vehicle (Contingency Measure – Vehicle Supply) (Maximum Permissible Age) Regulations commenced today. Recognising the current restricted supply environments, NTA proposes the following:
enactment of the Small Public Service Vehicle (Contingency Measure – Vehicle Supply) Regulations 2022, as a temporary exceptional contingency provision, to permit SPSVs with a current final operation date in 2023 and 2024 to operate for a period beyond the maximum permissible age set out in Regulation 31 of the Taxi Regulation (Small Public Service Vehicle) Regulations 2015 (as may be amended);
phasing out these temporary exceptional contingency Regulations from 2025 for the oldest extended life vehicles (15 and 20 years) to ensure an easier transition back to those appropriate Regulation 31 SPSV age limits; and
a review of the suitability of the exceptional contingency Regulations at the end of 2023.

Proposal
The proposal is to temporarily extend the maximum permissible age for taxis and hackneys such that no current vehicle licence holder is forced out of the industry because a replacement vehicle cannot be purchased in the current exceptional geopolitical, climate challenge and restricted supply environments.
Recognising the current restricted supply environments, NTA proposes the following:
enactment of the Small Public Service Vehicle (Contingency Measure – Vehicle Supply) (Maximum Permissible Age) Regulations 2022, as a temporary exceptional contingency provision, to permit SPSVs with a current final operation date in 2023 and 2024 to operate for a period beyond the maximum permissible age set out in Regulation 31 of the Taxi Regulation (Small Public Service Vehicle) Regulations 2015 (as may be amended);
phasing out these temporary exceptional contingency Regulations from 2025 for the oldest extended life vehicles (15 and 20 years) to ensure an easier transition back to those appropriate Regulation 31 SPSV age limits; and
a review of the suitability of the exceptional contingency Regulations at the end of 2023.
Submissions in relation to this proposal may be made in one of the two following ways:

My understanding of the wording in section 2 ---from 2025 anything that is 15 or over has to go---it looks like they are looking making the 10 year rule a 15 year rule subject to Ts and Cs ---akin to before double NCTS /Suitability !

My reading of it is that 2025 is the new new new new new deadline. You can drive your existing heap until 2025 regardless of its age. I could be wrong though!

In my experience the Guards are our friends, not the guys you picked up Clanbrasil Street. I had a dickhead tell me I was only getting 15 euro for a 29 euro fare one night, I put him straight but he kept going, he was very close to swinging at me, I reminded him he was on cctv, settled him right down, have had a few very unstable women in the car as well, feel was more at ease with the camera when they are in the car.

Yep,they had to do that with the speed vans because lads were torching them in rural areas after they knew they'd been flashed.

Probably costly

The cameras themselves aren't though. You would have the money after a good nights work.

Yis are trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. Drivers have left the industry and the ones that are left want to work days because they prefer a normal life. When the economy takes a shite all the tradesmen and truck drivers will be back in their taxis at night.
If you want a camera just get one. There was feck all taxis during the Celtic tiger at 2 am. Then they were everywhere when the tiger died.Who wants to drive a taxi when there are better opportunities out there.
Then there's the lack of cash...

were passengers not very generous during the celtic tiger? giving 20 euro tips for a 10 euro fare? :D

Is Cart Blanch a transport solution for the west of Dublin?
Ermy, Unless they tackle the problem of all pubs, clubs, and restaurants closing at almost the same time every Friday and Saturday there will always be a transport problem.
Unless they tackle the unionised bus service, tram service, and Dart service, there'll always be a problem.
If revellers leave a club at 06.00 they can get a bus, tram or DART. Better still, start these services at 05.00.

^^^^^^^Dunno 1990 I'd say it's same as now except there's less cash work. The best thing about this job was the bit of cash at the end of the day.Now there's very little. The job may no longer be attractive now that so much of our earnings are recorded compared to ten years ago.

You going to pay for that 1990 .Where I work my customers would not welcome CCTV .I also wouldnt welcome it .Why would I want to be filmed at work ?

OCCi a little story .I picked up a crew on Clanbrasil Street a few years ago as they got in they said look at these cunts following us .I drove the lads to where they were going dropped them off then I got the Blues and Twos Garda asked where I picked them up I said I cant remember he then said Im sure if I brought you to Sundrive Road you would remember .So I said you know where I picked them up you followed us .I got out of the car gave the keys to the gard and said you drive that I will get in the back of the Garda Car .He told me to Fuck off .I drove off continued with my business .If the Crew had of been up to any nonsence in Clanbrasil Street I dont want to be called up in court to identify anybody .If you had CCTV you could walk yourself into a bullett full of trouble .I am a Taximan not a Public order mobile operative willing to pay for the service .
I was outside a late pub in the burbs one night, there was an unofficial rank outside. Next minute this bloke gets fcuked out by the bouncers. He walks over to his car, parked right outside, gets in, starts it up and drives it straight through the glass front doors of the bar with the bouncers having to jump out of the way. Straight away yer man's windscreen is getting whacked with baseball bats. They dragged yer man out of the car, gave him a few slaps and held him on the ground till the gards arrived. So he gets nicked and one of the gards started writing down the roof numbers of the cars that were there, about 3 or 4. A few weeks later I gets a phone call from the local station wanting to know can I come down and have an interview. So I went down the next day and they were asking what did I see and so forth. I said from the off that I'm not signing nothing and I'm definitely not going to any court. I don't know yer man I says and I don't know who he knows. I've to work around here and so forth. So they agreed. I told them what I seen and stupidly says yer man jumped in a clio and drove it through the doors. My misses had the same car at the time. So that was that. A few weeks
later later I get a summons in the door to go to court. After me telling them I'm not going to court. So I went to my doctor and told him the craic. He gave me a letter saying I was in bits with my back. I put that and the summons into an envelope and gave it back in to the station. Moral of the story they will use any information that you may have to further their case in court with total disregard of the potential consequences for you. I explained it to them but they still went ahead. I would not be for mandatory cctv for this very reason.

Maybe just recruit younger drivers who wont be scared of drugged up passengers?
Compulsorily payment of a deposit by credit card before the start of any journey durin the nite ...wud link cnuts to subsequent criminal behaviour an make then tink twice ....
We have to supply card readers ...why not use them for security aswell oops
Echoing a similar point to one of my earlier posts.

If you are a witness you will be asked to go to court. if you have cctv, you can just give it to the guards, no need to go to court and say what you saw. I know this from experience.

There's cash out there, but usually in the working-class suburbs.
-
But surely Silver if yer getting the job via app it may as well be on card. All that work is on record somewhere.I get flagged down seldomly off the street and even those people wanna pay by card.

I only work nights. If the Apps are active say around Coolock village, then I'll swing by before tapping the App'. You'll invariably pick up a cash job and save 15%.
-
I'm finding more and more FN customers are paying cash. Not sure if I should worry or not about it. Maybe people are paying closer attention to their bank balances as they realise paying by card is not 'free money'? I guess I work the working class suburbs of Dublin 7,9,11 daytime.
-
My experience Silver is they'd rather stand at the side of the road looking into their phone for ten minutes rather than put their arm up.They've been brainwashed.Gonna be hard to get them back.
Watty those are the ones who don't wanna pay the technology fee.

Bit Vague bullits ...an if its meanin wat I tink means .....the point that's bean made by some on the media who appear to be sumwat on our side are makin is that drivers won't do nites anymore cause of antisocial behaviour...that's a problem for the whole of society ...an then yu hav those in the media wit other agendas an scapegoatin taxis sayin that women will be raped cause thers not enough
Taxis an callin for uber
I tink its less of a problem that thers not enough taxis an more to do with blokes changin from nites to days cause they learned durin the flu they can live on lot less money an have a life with family and not hav to put up with runners ,pukers , pissheads , junkies , cnuts fallen asleep, or shiten in poor owl kens new car an stupid bleedin arguments an turn up the bleedin radio mister im coked ou of it an im buzzin ...... ide rather Ferry feral chimpanzees
Wat wud it take for drivers to return to nite work ?
It wud take an awful lot for meself to back to it ....
Bringing people to the airport or work beats a rabble of pissed apes in yur car anyday ....
I actually cudnt work town at nite anymore to be honest ...its not worth it

I like nights and the dregs more interesting than pinstriped mongs thinking they might be smart .

I'm with Octy on this. I'd rather traffic and sane ppl over drunks and nights any day. Your body clock is not cut out for nights, not so bad when you're young , 30ish, but 40s and 50s and beyond it'd wouldbe for me.

Trouble is you want to be out on the town when you're young....

Brass monkies have to be out and about during business hours to attend court, probation officers, social welfare offices, the Vinny, county council offices, foster homes, and supervised visits to their spawn with social workers in attendance. Hospital appointments, doctors appointments. Dialysis patients. Y'know, I don't miss Lymp day work one bit.
You used to get writer's cramp from all the dockets, now it's RSI's on your index finger.

It says to permit vehicles expiring 2023 and 2024 be extended temporarily……does this include 2012 vehicles that were extended upto 2023?
Work it out yourself, it sez VEHICLES EXPIRING IN 2023 AND 2024, no mention of reg plates.

Lads lads lads...I only put me deposit on me new car this morning and now the NTA are considering another consultation....
I can't really make it out but it's on their site. Its a little confusing but it looks like more extensions on the way.Dunno if I deserve one TBH.
I think the new proposed extension will be in your favour MFH fer maybe 2 or 5 more years ??
-
.... Looks to me like anyone wit a car 8 or 9 yers old today gets an extension...nobody else ....to be reviewed depending on economic/geopolitical
Changes ....not worth a bollix to most of us
The reps reckon that it concerns about 4500 drivers which is 25% of the fleet.

The crippling cost of living is putting an extra squeeze on pubs with some facing closure.
That was the warning issued yesterday by the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland following the release of a new consumer pulse survey.
It revealed more than four-in-10 Irish adults are planning fewer visits to pubs for the remainder of this year due to cost of living concerns.
That prompted VFI chief Paul Clancy to demand “urgent and substantive energy support in the Budget”. He said a drop-off in trade will heap extra pressure on publicans – but insisted they “cannot pass on increases to customers [who are] already under financial strain”.
He said: “The survey findings paint a bleak future for the pubs, their staff and the communities where they often provide a vital social hub.
“With 42% of pub-goers expected to curtail visits due to cost of living pressures, it is vital Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe provides urgent and substantive energy supports to the pub trade in Budget 2023. Pubs cannot pass on increases to customers already under financial strain and colossal energy costs are going to force pubs to close, or reduce their winter opening times.
Less work but the same amount of Drivers !!!!!!

Just got off the phone to the NTA and my heap isn't part of this consultation.New car for me.I think I needed to change anyway......
I would not agree MFH, the proposed new rule states;
" to permit SPSVs with a current final operation date in 2023 and 2024 to operate for a period beyond the maximum permissible age set out in Regulation 31 of the Taxi Regulation"
https://www.nationaltransport.ie/public-consultation-on-proposed-small-public-service-vehicle-contingency-measure-vehicle-supply-maximum-permissible-age-regulations/ (https://www.nationaltransport.ie/public-consultation-on-proposed-small-public-service-vehicle-contingency-measure-vehicle-supply-maximum-permissible-age-regulations/)
Your 2006 expires in 2023 which to me qualifies you if the proposal goes ahead ??
Granted the proposal is not yet passed and that is most likely why the NTA refused you on the phone.
-
The current rules, before any new proposal is activated;
The 05 and 06's are the very last to go as they got the covid 2 year extension on top of the 15 year rule, meaning that the 05's are all gone this year and the 06's next year as soon as they hit their 17th birthday..
The 07 and 08's did not qualify fer the covid extension because they were not being put off the road at the time, and with the 15 year rule will go off the road this year or next as soon as they hit their 15th birthday.
"Where the vehicle licence was first granted before 1st January 2009 and the vehicle was
associated with that licence on 1st January 2013, the vehicle can be licensed up to the 15th
anniversary of the date of its first registration."

Dunno Belker the lady said it only applied to certain years and mine was excluded. The wording of this consultation is different to the previous ones that gave a free pass to all.In me head I was already changing vehicles so my plan hasn't changed.
Any of yis in any doubt should contact the NTA before you spend the new car fund on a trip to Disneyland or anything fancy.

I don't want to be leading you up the 'Garden Path' here MFH but the rules the lady in the NTA were stating are the current rules today.
IF the new proposal is passed then a cab due to expire in 2023 as yours does will get an extension IF the proposal is passed !

That's wat I taut Ken....basically a "stay of execution" for the next 2 yers ...but to be reviewed end of 2023 to see probably if putin gets a bullit an the "great depression" does or doesn't occur ...they seem to be playin it by ear
-
I suppose that's one way to interpret it and you might be right Belker.
My thinking is I'm part of a small group of elite drivers who have taken advantage of multiple loopholes and extensions over the years.By applying the age rules just to us there won't be so much pressure on the car market and if we can't upgrade well it's no big loss to the fleet from a numbers perspective.
Now there are many more lads driving 2012 and 2013 vehicles that might have been in bother having to upgrade due to availability..As the NTA say themselves it's a staggered approach to updating the fleet.Personally I don't think they know what they're doing as all they ever achieve is a watered down version of the UK taxi market. But that's another days shit talk.
It may well turn out that a fifteen year rule for all comes in around 2025.That's a long way off though.I'm going new on this one and In a few years I'm mortgage free so I'm in a relatively comfortable situation even if the economy dies for a while.
-
Dr. Martin Gooter Bling:
yiz jammy cocksuckers yiz.
Don't sweat it DMG.If it's any consolation you should see a 40/50% reduction in yer fuel bill and you'll have the comfort of a newer motor.May even pay for itself.
-
MFH---my interpretation is that max age is 15yrs----except for Covid extensions-- so if you 06 was due to be dumped in 21 so you got to end 22 with the exemptions so in theory the motor is 16.5 far out side the review to extend to a 15 year rule --in 2023/24 no motor that will be 15 will be permitted !
-
That's probably right Punter.Makes more sense.

Hi all, I hope you are all keeping well
I wonder can you please tell me the Actual Date that you will be Announcing the extension to the final date of operation for Taxis currently licensed but due to be put off the road commencing January 1st 2023, a figure I believe to be in the region of 5300 vehicles ?. I have many drivers asking me the same.
Clearly, as previously flagged to this office, thousands have now left the industry and I note with a sense of irony , the authority has now engaged in a recruitment campaign for new drivers .
As outlined in previous communications, the lack of charging infrastructure for EVs (in addition to other negative issues) is now worse than ever and the pitfalls of ev ownership are now become apparent to those drivers who invested in new EVs, also the lack of availability of suitable replacement vehicles is a huge issue for those intending to remain in the industry and remain driving reliable i.c.e. powered vehicles.
It would be a great pity for the industry to haemorrhage any more experienced drivers in Q1 of 2023 , in a similar fashion to the wav exodus a few years back where the situation became so serious the big red button was pushed and remaining wavs, many unfit for purpose in my opinion, were exempted from end of life rules.
The reality of the matter is that 100 vehicles per week will need to be replaced commencing January 2023, I hope you won't stand idly by and watch thousands more drivers wither on the vine between now and January.
The anxiety levels for drivers finding themselves having to change their vehicles against the backdrop of scant availablity could and should be mitigated by the announcement of the extension sooner rather than later .
Yours sincerely
-
Ken gives hope, Has any 2012 heap due to expire 2023 gotten confirmation that its included in the proposal? It doesn’t make sense that they’ll exclude 2012 cars and extend only 2013/2014 cars
-
That's correct his car will only be 12 as the Covid exemption permitted it --I figure all cars will be let run to 15 ,that's what the review --MFH car is 06 so its already too old and is only on the road per Covid --
When the 9 year rule arrived anything that was on the road could run to 15 but all new entries were 10 max !
I dumped a lovely Voyager as it was 10 only had it 4 years but my buddy had a 06 Carina that's still valid till Dec 2022 !

Correct. Any car licenced prior to Jan 2013 got 15 years from date of fist registration. So a 09 heap got till 2024 etc.

I changed my 06 Prius in 2015,replaced it with a 2011 Prius, like MFH I could still be driving my 06 today(15yr rule + 2yrs covid extension)...the wording is not completely clear to me but it looks like I could potentially get to the NTA end date of 2025,my current Prius would be 15 in March 2026.

Your licence should have last date it can be licenced as a taxi

There seems to be a lot of confusion around this proposal. If you get in touch with the NTA, probably best to get the answer in writing!
https://www.nationaltransport.ie/public-consultation-on-proposed-small-public-service-vehicle-contingency-measure-vehicle-supply-maximum-permissible-age-regulations/ (https://www.nationaltransport.ie/public-consultation-on-proposed-small-public-service-vehicle-contingency-measure-vehicle-supply-maximum-permissible-age-regulations/)
FWIW, it seems to me that no car will be put off the road before 2025 but I could be wrong. NTA are thinking about 20 year saloon taxis! I could be wrong!
(2) phasing out these temporary exceptional contingency Regulations from 2025 for the oldest extended life vehicles (15 and 20 years) to ensure an easier transition back to those appropriate Regulation 31 SPSV age limits;
-
Sorry Watty I just posted after I didn't see your post.
I'm looking here at the background notes on the NTA website and it does actually say the following.....
The proposal is to temporary extend the maximum permissible age for taxis and hackneys such that no current vehicle licence holder is forced out of the industry because a replacement vehicle cannot be purchased and the current exceptional geopolitical , climate challenge and restricted supply environments."
I'm a current licence holder with a final operation date in 2023.
Then they say "phasing out the temporary exceptional contingency regulations from 2025 for the oldest extended life vehicles(15 and 20 years) to ensure an easier transition back to those appropriate Regulation 31 SPSV age limits"
What are they on about mentioning 20 years?Anyone wanna explain for me
-
I wonder if it would be hard for the NTA computer boffins to auto-generate an email to let affected drivers know they're in the range for an extension? Would solve a lot of confusion.

Under current regulations,March 2023 is the final date of operation,I only received the renewal process mail(current licence expires on Nov 18th) from them today,I like a lot of licence holders was about to change my car,I was gonna put it through the NCT and see what exactly it needs,if anything expensive reared it's ugly head I was just gonna change the car rather than spend money on a car that will only get 4 months use(Nov-March)...but with this current proposal I could potentially get to 2025 depending on the criteria they apply.
-

It certainly wouldn't but they won't generate anything until the proposal is passed...or not...which won't be until after the final submission date in Oct.
-
In my view Shallow is fine as it wont be a 15 year licensed taxi till 2026 they wont allow the two year Covid extension in the calculation--
Basically if your 10/11/12 reg -- you're fine for 15 years !
My car is 151 so it should be OK till 2030 ---very doubtful the Driver will get that far ! 75 !
-
Another way of looking at it is the 2005 cars can stay until 2025 which so happens to be 20 years that are mentioned above.I don't understand why they mention 20 years otherwise..
Edit I just saw that Watty made the same point.Only took my two hours to get to the same place.Long covid probably..
I've emailed them for more clarification.Could be a while getting back to me.
-
You made the same point yourself almost 2 hours ago! Defo long covid, or dementia, or your missus is poisoning your dinner O:-)

Current max on Wheelie is 15 years hence if standard taxi gets the 5 years extension so will the WAV thus 20 years !
-
Ok I'm gonna post this and have a few cans to rest my brain....
"The proposal is to temporarily extend the maximum permissible age for taxis and hackneys such that no current vehicle licence holder is forced out of the industry because a replacement vehicle cannot be purchased in the current exceptional geopolitical, climate challenge and restricted supply environments."
Note that it says no current licence holder.I'm a current licence holder.Maybe I'll ring them in the morning.

OK, pure speculation OMP but if they extend 10 year licences by 5 years, they may have to extend 15 year licences by 5 years too.
-

Just seen this. Ditto.

Consultation to tell us how to do our job !!! Laffin
What age is your heap now Bubba?
Change in 2025. 2010 motor
It seems like the new proposal won't be of any benifit to you Bubba.
I thought you were a saloon driver these days.
I am Ken. Skoda Octavia.
How did you get a 15 year license on a 2010 saloon motor Bubba ?
I know you did but I don't understand why ?
"Where the vehicle licence was first granted before 1st January 2009 and the vehicle was
associated with that licence on 1st January 2013, the vehicle can be licensed up to the 15th
anniversary of the date of its first registration."

-
MFH---my interpretation is that max age is 15yrs----except for Covid extensions-- so if you 06 was due to be dumped in 21 so you got to end 22 with the exemptions so in theory the motor is 16.5 far out side the review to extend to a 15 year rule --in 2023/24 no motor that will be 15 will be permitted !
MFH's Joe is 06 with a 15 year license takes it to 2021 and 2 covid extensions takes it to 2023.
And if the current proposal is passed fer most likely a 2 year extension then he has till 2025.
NTA Email;
"phasing out these temporary exceptional contingency Regulations from 2025 for the oldest extended life vehicles (15 and 20 years)".

Unfortunately it is a waiting game fer you MK, the current consultation process runs till mid October, so hard to know when a final decision will be made.
But I'm guessing at early November, and again I'm guessing that you will qualify fer a 2 year extension.
-
Just looking at this mess again..
My maximum permissible age fell in 2021 as my heap is a 2006 saloon that was plated up before January 2013..My interpretation of the draft notes (when you click on the make a consultation)is that date has been extended by 48 months from 2021 to superceed the covid extensions. This brings me up to 2025 from what I can tell.
Here's the text..." have reached its maximum permissible age of ten years or fifteen years between
1 January 2021 and 31 December 2021, it shall not be deemed to have reached its
maximum permissible age until a period of 48 months after the date upon which it
would have otherwise reached its maximum permissible age of ten years or fifteen
years by virtue of the time periods specified in paragraphs (1) or (2)"
I could be wrong as they've already told me I'm gone but as far as I can see no taxi leaves until 2025.I still dunno whether I'll want an extension but it would be nice to have some clarity.
-
I think you will be good fer the proposed 2 year extension MFH.
But remember what you posted above is the draft consultation plan, which has not yet been passed.
As fer the lady in the NTA telling you that you are gone, she is correct stating the current rules today as the proposal has not yet been finalised.
-
It's a bit mad alright Belker.I specifically asked the lady if I was impacted should the consultation be passed and she said my final operation date was still 2023 and it wouldn't be of benefit.
I've emailed them to be sure and might phone up and speak to someone else.Either way I won't be disappointed.I've had a good run so far.
It's also possible the messed up and didn't word the consultation in such a way to exclude my heap.
-

I doubt that you will get a solid answer till after the consultation process and final decision has been made.
But it is very possible that they don't want any cars that have already got 15 year licenses and/or covid extensions ??
As the proposal we got to vote on stands, if passed then both yourself and MK will be good till 2025.

It's hard to know what they're really up to.Only last weekend I saw a 2000 hiace wheely working away. There are a few relics in the wheely fleet that have special terms regarding their age.
-
Thanks ken, we’ll know more in the days ahead. I dont want to wait 50 minutes on the phone and end up with unclear and unsatisfactory answer.

No worries MK, I know it's a stressful time fer you with the clock ticking, the NTA consultation ends on 12th Oct so keep your eye on their website after that date fer final updates.
I would be very surprised if you did not qualify fer an extension, but that's only me guessing.

The phone jockies in the NTA can only tell you what's happening today, honestly MFH,if I was a betting man..which I'm not...I would say that you will qualify if the new draft proposal is passed and as you quoted their blurb about no cars leaving the fleet until 2025,I can't really see them excluding a few cars, that just wouldn't make sense, although as I normally say, this is the NTA we're talking about.
-
Just off the phone and the story has changed...if the law is enacted they're saying I can keep my vehicle until 2026.I'm also waiting for a reply to my email.Got a number for the phone call too.
Makes ya think.

Yeah Belker that's what they said but it could easily be another mistake.I'll assume the worst and keep saving until we have more certainty. The girls on the phone are reading off a script.

There might be a bit of flexibility and common sence at last?

2026 would make it 20 years old, so might be some reasoning in that ??

Coola we dont know what they know .Vlad has mobalised 300,000 men this morning and going to hold elections to land grab .Fuel gone up again this morning on the markets and when China stops coughing demand will soar and 3 euro a liter might not be to far off normal .Listening to Some Face on RTE Early news from the Wind Energy Crowd and he says only BELFAST UK Harbour is the only suitable place for Windturbines in the Whole of Ireland at the moment .Windy Eamo is pipe dreaming we wont reach our targets for emissions unless we are all parked up because we cannot get fuel .Makes sense to leave all of us on the road at least some of us might have access to fuel Big Dommos Brother or somebody you know night get you some .Listening to Real Old Joe telling Lizzie to Fuck off No Trade Deal with America .Its beginning to look like Europe is under attack from both Russia and the USA .Paggo must also be worried about unrest Facebook owner young Zuckerberg has gone from the Worlds third richest man to outside the top 50 .not to much profits to be taxed there .Just like Lockdown they might need taxis to move people if there are mass strikes .Be interesting to see how many people turn up Saturday at the Poverty Protest in Dublin .Strange thing the public Service Pay offer has been proposed but not agreed with the Staff .So how do you frame a budget if you dont know the wage bill .

I believe that to be the case Ken,extending my car up to March 2026 would make mine 15yrs.

It's hard to know what to think now Hal, MFH's 2026 post was a bit of a Fly in the Ointment as that was not included in the original NTA proposal, but anyway I reckon there is an extension in the line fer all that need it.

2025 seems favourite alright ,but if they apply the Jan 1 2013 benchmark date and apply a 15 year rule, it might be 2017 for last SGS date.

Taxi drivers given extension on 10-year age limit for vehicles (https://www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2022/09/22/taxi-drivers-given-extension-on-ten-year-age-limit-for-vehicles/) (Irish Times, 22 Sept 2022)
Taxi drivers are to be granted an extension on the current 10-year age limit for their vehicles because of a global shortage of new cars, the Dáil has heard. Up to 4,000 vehicles that were set to be put off the road next year are now expected to continue operating as taxis next year. Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan confirmed the National Transport Authority (NTA) had extended the 10-year rule, which limits the age of vehicles drivers could use. The Minister said there would be a public consultation in the coming weeks but that he expected the extension to be implemented “and I’m glad the NTA took this decision”.
Sinn Féin transport spokesman Darren O’Rourke, who had called for the 10 year rule to be abandoned or extended by five years, welcomed the “U-turn” on the issue. However, the Minister said it was “far from being a U-turn but recognising the reality that it is very difficult to get vehicles at the present time. There’s a global supply shock”. “It’s not ideal in terms of having to do an extension, I’ll be honest. We want a modern fleet. It’s not anything against taxi drivers, it’s just setting certain standards,” he said.
Mr O’Rourke insisted it was a U-turn as a number of months ago when taxi drivers “were shouting from the rafters” about a potential shortage of cars “you were categorical in your opposition”. He also criticised the taxi advisory committee and called for Mr Ryan to “scrap it”. He said it was not reflective of the taxi sector and its interests. The Meath East TD pointed out the NTA had told public representatives “it was an executive decision” to change the 10-year rule and not a recommendation from the advisory body, which the four taxi sector representative groups were not part as they regard it as “a talking shop”. Mr Ryan rejected the call and said the advisory committee’s role was to “advise, consider and inform” what the NTA and the department do. He said although he would like the Dublin taxi groups to be represented, the group “has to be a national advisory body”.

Shower of bastards. They only told me via email on July 6 that there were no plans to give any further extensions.
You have to feel for the lads who dumped good cars to upgrade in the last few weeks.
"Dear MFH.,
Thank you for contacting the National Transport Authority (NTA). We refer to your recent correspondence received on the 4th July 2022.
During the Covid-19 pandemic NTA introduced two sets of emergency regulations relating to the maximum permissible age of SPSVs, ensuring no vehicle would be forced to exit the fleet as a result of age.
In the case of Vehicle license Txxxxx Registration number 06xxxxxx, the final operation date is xxxAPR-2023
At present NTA does not intend to enact emergency regulations to further extend the maximum permissible age of vehicles.
As your vehicle is approaching its maximum permissible age you may be able to avail of grant funding towards the purchase of a new vehicle. Further details on the WAV, ESPSV and Scrappage grants can be found on the forms and guides section of NTA’s website
If you have any further questions, please call the Information Line on 0818 064 000."

That's gas, my heap is a 131 and would have been off the road 25/01/2023.

Sorry it's not in order but this was the email I sent to get the above response off the NTA,
"Hi I'm just enquiring to see if there are gonna be any more age extensions on taxi licences in the next few months. My vehicle is getting old but it's roadworthy and it's proving difficult to source a new electric vehicle or even a reasonably priced secondhand motor due to the demand and global semiconductor shortages.I am aware that over 5000 drivers are due to upgrade next year and many will be in a similar situation, possibly planning on replacing a relatively clean hybrid vehicle like mine with a dirtier cheaper diesel alternative.
Recent commentary from government ministers about any sort of "liberalisation" or rideshare is not giving me any confidence in the future of my taxi business. This unhelpful commentary is also discouraging me from reinvesting in the taxi industry with any significant borrowing. To be honest there are better employment opportunities out there than taxi driving.
Any clarification on the vehicle age issue would be greatly appreciated as my vehicle has 9 months left until it's last operational date.
Thanks in advance,
MFH."

I honestly placed a deposit on a brand new jammer 90 minutes before the NTA release on their site. They've been cooking this up for at least a few weeks.
-
The extension is not official yet, it's just the Minister putting his best foot forward, considering the Shinners asked for something similar awhile back...
The 4,000 number is shocking to me. You'd think the penpushers in the NTA would have seen this coming a few years back and maybe run an ad/email campaign towards taxi drivers?

What they never realise is changing vehicles is a massive pain in the rocks. Between meter installation and calibration and stickers and suitability plus NCT. Nobody in their right mind would change vehicles early if their current heap is running alright.
Every year I don't upgrade I'm saving €3250. Why would any of us pass that opportunity up?
-
I haven't had the meter sealed, and won't until I get clarification that the heap gets a stay of execution.
Sealing the meter for 86.10 for just four months is mad.
-
I can't do my suitability without being sealed AFAIK. If yer doing a change of vehicle the appointment date will suffice. We will both just keep pushing it out until we get more clarity.

Wheres this 3250 you are saving if you dont upgrade . Mfh, you’ve been telling everyone here for the past year to literally wait the last minute. You were very optimistic that nta would do something last minute. Youve not been following your own advice

New Corrola I wanted costs €33500.Most likely will last ten years.33500÷10=3350 per year.
I have done what I said. All I did was put a deposit on a car that was not gonna be ready until next year. That purchase is now cancelled. All I had at risk was €500 and now I'm getting it back.
If you wanna guarantee a vehicle you need to get on a waiting list.If yer waiting until New years eve for the NTA to make a decision you will be disappointed.

Thanks for that info Bubba. The August 2022 newsletter says meters need to be verified for suitability. That's where I got confused.

Too many cars to seal so some will have sgs before available sealing dates

I would not agree MK, and believe me I am No MFH fan !
He sold his own story about the Corolla upgrade which was very believeable,
and to be fair he did wait it out till the very last before the NTA (not yet confirmed) news update,
which again to be fair came very late in the day.
Anyway's it would seem that both of ye will get your extensions fer another few years, so Happy days ! ::cheers
