Between updating car and uber and freenow cutting our throat to get us working for nothing its doesn't pay to be a taxi driver in Dublin anymore
Offered kevin st to airport in heavy traffic at 3 today
21.08
They beginning to price us out of the market so the waymo fleet can take over
Couldn't be arsed to do cheap work so guess I'll starve on a rank
When is the next strike
-
A strike is withdrawal of services so if you turn off the app and rank up, you're already on strike!
In Ireland, I'd say once they get rid of us, it'll be a tag team of rental companies & the apps renting to our new cousins and the cost to the punters will shoot up. In rural areas, it'll be rideshare at the weekends and no taxis during the week.
-
Wast that 21.08 on the offer screen i.e. 23.95 before commission? How much would you get on the meter for that run on rate 1?
The meter is too low in the city and too high in rural areas in my experience. Last Friday I done Balbriggan - Airport €45 (1pax - 22 mins) followed by Airport to D1 €29 (3pax - 27 mins) followed by 7/8 mins going nowhere in heavy traffic up above in Dublin with no fare on board. Makes no sense.
Mind you I got two taxis in Belfast last night... both hired from a local firm's app and both stg£6.00 for 3pax, short ride each way within the city centre.

It's not just the 21.08 but you have about an 90-95% chance of returning empty thus paying you a score for over an hours work which is bolloxolgy when you factor in the pay to play factor.

That's an interesting point to ponder. As I mentioned on another thread or two, last Friday I dropped an Uber ride at DAP and the app told me I had a fast pass or somesuch to skip the Zone 18 queue. I never used the pass but that's my fault not theirs, I guess. Anywaysanall it got me to thinking if they give a fast pass (I don't know how or why I got it and I was only told I had it after I dropped) with fixed fare jobs would that make drivers accept significantly lower fares?
According to Free Now it's drivers queue for "hours" to pay 20% commission plus €3 DAA fee for DAP pickups. Even drivers permitted to use DAA ranks can be faced with lengthy waits at quiet times so does it make sense that drivers would be prepared to speculate a few quid off a fare to get away as soon as they drop... or do they just like queuing while shovelling tons of fried brown shite down their necks?
-
I think the jump to the top of the airport queue is a perk of your rewards program status.
-
Makes sense. I'm Platinum now. When I got gold I thought that was as good as it got, then they set the target at Diamond... got there and the target became Platinum... However, that's where it ends... game over. I was seriously betting with myself as to what would come next... Tungsten, Saffron... surely they coulda kept it going with a bit of imagination. What fucking nonsense... grown men are supposed to be interested in getting gold stars on their foreheads... easy to see these apps are all designed by kids who got most of their education on a playstation or whatever the modern day equivalent of a playstation is!
... but I'd never been given a fast pass before... or since... and I have a very low acceptance rate (22%) and probably relatively high cancellation rate at 3%. You would think the lads that take everything they're offered and never cancel would be the ones that deserve rewards or bonuses?
-
There's a feature on the rewards program that allows you to carry over your 'status' to the following month too.You may well notice the difference next month unless you've been working hard.
There was a time before everyone defected over to Uber that I'd get a job to the airport and another straight back to town. One day it happened three times in a row.
The fix fares ensure I won't be as motivated to chase Uber work as before.Fun while it lasted.
-
I've fuck all this month... I got to Diamond - I think I said Platinum above but it's whichever is the higher one that I have - through a bit of new car syndrome coupled with making up for new car breaking down syndrome. Anywaysanall, I'm done now 'till Sept so I was expecting to be back on the bottom rung by then. See now that you've said I can stay Diamond or Platinum or whatever it is I have I'm gonna have to look at the fucking thing now which I don't really want to do but it's in my head now, less see how long I can resist!
To be honest as a result of working more than normal I'm (unusually!) ahead of the game financially and I could only squeeze a one week summer holiday around hospital appointments and such like within the constraints of school holidays which is all Mrs. Catcher can do... so the holiday budget will return a surplus too... My intention is to speculate €1,740 of that on trying TaT for a year so hopefully that'll reduce my current dependence on commercial apps going forward.

That's mad... but I can see why drivers who are allowed skip the queue for work at Zone 18 when they drop at the terminal might be tempted.
At the moment there's no shortage of men coming into the game. The WAV grants lottery is hugely oversubscribed and someone on here reported a sibling renting his saloon plate for €5,000/year. Mightn't be a bad time for men who have skills that'd enable them earn better money in another trade or profession to consider their options. Anyone who got a saloon plate after entry liberalisation would recoup their investment within two years through the rental market. It's not that long since several drivers' unions were calling for a buyback scheme... I guess we have as close to that as possible right now but how long will it last....

I don't to be honest. I done a Bolt in the other direction to IFSC last Friday in reasonably heavy traffic, very heavy getting out of Z18 car park, probably 7-10 mins to the barrier with meter running ... then via M50 (port tunnel) so no bus lane on any of the route... 3 pax was 29 excluding DAA fee and toll... and that's only half way to Pearse St.

I'm in town outside the Mespil and Uber keeps offering me fixed fares to the airport.Two form the Mespil hotel had differing prices up or down a euro and another across the canal on Wilton terrace was cheaper than both offers at 24.33.
The distance is the exact same from both pick ups.
Their algo is messing with us and a bit random. All those extra euros here and there add up to a lot of money.
By the way there were other jobs going to north wall from the same pick up areas and they paid 12 after commissions. Hardly worth the extra 12 to go all the way to the airport.

Just saw a few there...
Sandymount castle to DAP 23.40 after fees...seems very cheap to me.
Clayton hotel ballsbrdge to dap 23.45
Another one Mount merrion to Dap for 34 after fees. I dunno how those can be accurate.
Also seen Monkstown avenue to kylemore road for 33 something.
Maybe they're experimenting.
-
Now we know how the rich stay rich!
Just checked... Aircoach (bus with ~50 seats) is charging ~€11 one-way from St Vincents Hospital to Airport tomorrow. Of course, you'd have to walk from your house with your luggage to the bus stop. And you can't choose the exact time of pick-up. And double-check you have your passport because the bus ain't turning around. And hope it doesn't rain while you're waiting outdoors at the bus stop.

Lads you are all missing the point .THE GOODBODY REPORT was the blueprint .Did you actually read it ?more WATS DONE ,Better cars Grants and 9 year rule ,Aligned to Dispatchers DONE ,can you work without an app ? CCTV thats DONE you need to log in with a face scan on UBER expect that to be rolled out on All Apps .random request to upload a pivture ? The Roofie with tracker .DONE the apps track your work ,Lack of weekend cover .DONE increase rate for Golden 8 .Now LOOK at who solved all the Issues and you realise why the Apps are allowed to charge or do what they like .Off Street Ranking NOT DONE but on the way .Look at the Airport Zone 18 .when thats up and running it makes big money for DAA more that the Kesk .Thats the only item in the Goodbody not yet achieved OFF STREET RANKING .dont be surprised to see the Kesh handed over to DAA car Parking much more lucrative than annual fees .Why was area 18 allowed when the airport had an existing Taxi Service .The Taxi rank outside 1 and 2 handed over to bus and Coaches .THE GOODBODY REPOER is the Blueprint .and has just about been achieved but not the way drivers expected .
-
Erm piss off with your good body report.
Right this morning I took a job early Prussia street to DAP as the city was quiet. The offer said €24.26 so I took it thinking maybe I'm imagining things om other offers.No traffic and I followed the route on their map. NCR and Dorset Street to DAP.
Got to the airport.
Two passengers so €4 extras including the PUC.
Meter said 33.20 so I should have been paid 29.22.No idea why it's so far off.
They done me out of a fiver.I wont be emailing as I haven't got the patience.
That's it, no more arguing. Uber is fukking with the fixed fares. No proof needed. Decide for yourselves if it's still worth covering.I'll be getting very very fussy from now on.
Glad I covered the job as I thought I was imagining what the scamming cunts were up to.
-
Merch you Ignore the Goodbody at your Peril .Thats the Blueprint .The Apps are providing traceability .Customer Safety .We are providing newer cars and WATs through grants .the issue as highlited in Goodbody about lack of taxis on friday Sat late is covered by higher rates .So no need for CCTV or trackers in Roofies .They got what they wanted .Off Street Ranking Area 18 at the Port .Even though the Kesh provided a service .They got what they wanted just not the way we thought they would .Its there is Black and White they also wanted fare competition strange when we use a meter but meter is MAXIMUM Fare only ..There are more members on the TAC representing non Drivers than Drivers .
-
John with respect....this is a thread slagging off Uber and exposing their financial trickitude ...... The elephant jockies don't know what the Goodbody report is. They were probably learning English in school when it first came out.Now they're running rings around us covering discounts.
-
Why do you think they are allowed add booking fees ,tech fees , non meter fees ? We dont see any of that .People think drivers get all the add ons .I would go so far as to say the App booking policy is Racist exploiting drivers without a Broad Knowledge of the City .The Drivers Licence test has been made so easy that passing it does not mean you know your way from Kevin Street to Francis Street .So you are reliant on a Point to Point mapping App that can then exploit Passengers by sending cars a longer rout than a Professional Driver would take .Like I said Drivers under represented on the TAC .GOODBODY was the blueprint and they implement it .

DID THEY SAY AND GET THIS ...In the 2009 Goodbody Economic Review
On vehicle standards, Goodbody's position was essentially that deregulation should be accompanied by stronger quality standards and enforcement, rather than restricting the number of taxis. The report discusses the Commission's national vehicle standards and the move toward more stringent specifications.
On wheelchair accessibility, the report was quite clear that there was a significant shortage of wheelchair-accessible taxis. It noted:
The proportion of the fleet that was wheelchair accessible was only 7.5% in 2008.
There were about 1,600 wheelchair-accessible taxis, compared with 1,246 in 2005.
Although the absolute number had increased, it had not increased as quickly as the overall taxi fleet, so the percentage had fallen.
There was significant unmet demand for wheelchair-accessible services.
The Commission had already proposed financial assistance/subsidies to help operators purchase accessible vehicles.
Goodbody/ the Commission warned that without financial assistance, the relatively high cost of accessible vehicles could lead to inadequate replacement and potentially a significant depletion of the accessible fleet by 2012.
An important distinction
Goodbody didn't simply recommend that every existing taxi should immediately become wheelchair accessible. The approach was more about improving the standards of the accessible fleet and providing financial support to increase its supply.
However, following the Goodbody review, the Taxi Regulator went further: in October 2009 it announced that all new taxi licences would have to be for wheelchair-accessible vehicles, phased in over time. It also proposed a new category of wheelchair-accessible hackney to address gaps, particularly in rural areas.

Theyll keep pushing the discounts testing the tolerance and pushing the envelope... ther is no bottom ....... they are filtering out the desperate or low intelligence quota from the rest and will attempt to starve the rest into complying to hand over 50% + of ther earnings to uber .... this is uber unregulated in ireland today and drivers who are doing these discounts are abandoning rules and regulations which wer put in place to protect the public and drivers ..... drivers doing the discounts are assisting uber in circumnavigating rules and regulations and the government has completedly turned a blind eye to app regulatation ...... not only that but they are fucking up the job for everyone else.... if you do these discounts yu are an uber driver with the added finacial burden of paying for all the necessary expense of having a roof sign that has become meaningless other than you have you have use of a bus lane
As ya said merc if a real lean time comes .... thers going to be a hell of alot of drivers in deep shit ..... we all remember 08 and we are setting ourselves up for the same situation wit uber and ther coalition on news talk crying thers not enough taxis only this time drivers will be excluded from working instantly because uber / fn and bolt will switch off jobs to those who wont hand over half ther earnings ....I can walk away from it today I honestly dont need the taxi but its criminal that the irish government and nta have abandoned drivers and left them to the mercy of these american scum sucking vultures ....incomprehensible stupidity and betrayal....

ECONOMY OF SCALE UBER /FREE NOW ???Drivers could choose to affiliate with a dispatch company to obtain telephone-booked work.
Only about 40% of taxi drivers nationwide were affiliated with a dispatch operator at the time.
Affiliation was higher in urban areas.
In Dublin, affiliation had actually fallen from 51.2% in 2005 to 38.4% in 2008.
There were over 400 dispatch operators, but most were very small: around two-thirds had 10 vehicles or fewer.
Goodbody considered dispatch companies important because they could create economies of scale—essentially, a larger pool of affiliated drivers makes it easier to match bookings with available taxis and provide a better service.
The particularly interesting part is that Goodbody identified three things needed to achieve those economies of scale:
A critical mass of drivers willing to affiliate.
Consumers recognising that larger dispatch companies could provide higher levels of service.
Incentives for drivers to affiliate with dispatch companies.
So, if your question is “Did Goodbody recommend that taxi drivers should be tied/aligned to a dispatcher?”, I would say not as a compulsory licensing requirement. Rather, it saw greater affiliation with dispatch operators as economically beneficial, particularly because larger dispatch networks could improve utilisation and service.
There's also an important later finding: the 2011 review of the taxi market, looking back at Goodbody, specifically said that economies of scale were increasing for drivers who had access to larger dispatching companies.
-
DID THE APPS SOLVE THIS read it carefully ...Smart roof signs
Goodbody discussed the proposed new vehicle standards, including requirements concerning roof signs and the information that should be displayed on them. The broader objective was to make taxis more readily identifiable and to provide passengers with useful information about the vehicle/driver.
However, I wouldn't attribute a specific “smart roof sign” system to Goodbody without qualification. The detailed electronic/intelligent roof-sign concept appears to have been part of the subsequent regulatory/industry reforms, rather than a central Goodbody recommendation.
The regulations that followed did standardise roof signs, including the licence number, area identification and, where applicable, dispatch/booking contact details and wheelchair-accessible identification.
On-board CCTV
This is different. CCTV was not one of the principal Goodbody recommendations in the 2009 economic review. The report was primarily concerned with the economics and regulation of the SPSV sector—licensing, supply/demand, vehicle standards, dispatching, driver incomes, accessibility and service quality.
So if you're looking at a list of proposals that includes “smart roof signs + CCTV + dispatcher affiliation + wheelchair accessibility”, I suspect you're looking at a broader set of taxi-reform proposals from around 2009–2011, rather than recommendations contained exclusively in the Goodbody report.
-
Goidbody also said ther wasnt too many taxis wen dozens of drivers wer hanging out of the attic ..... fuk goodbody johnny ....nuttin good bout them except they take yers to write a load o shoite on toilet paper that wont upset the idiots in kildare street and get paid millions to do so
-
OCCi thats the Blueprint the Dep of Transport will follow .They didnt pay for the report just to ignore it .That was handed to the TAC and they were told thats it .You dont really believe that The government would let taxi drivers or anybody else self regulate . Few other issues in Goodbody yet to be implimented ?
-
READ THE LAST SENTENCE CAREFULLY ...What Goodbody said about competition on taxi fares
Goodbody explicitly identified “Fare Competition” as an effect of the liberalised taxi market. Their conclusion was that there was evidence of lower fares being offered to consumers, particularly outside Dublin. They identified three forms of competition:
Fixed flat-rate fares for short journeys
Waiving of booking fees
Discounts on longer journeys
Importantly, Goodbody did not regard this as a problem in itself. They said that the national fare structure established maximum fares, rather than mandatory fares, so operators could legitimately offer discounts. They noted that this had actually been possible for many years before liberalisation.
The important qualification was that a flat-rate fare could not legitimately be higher than the applicable metered fare, because that would breach the national maximum-fare regulations.
The broader point
So, if you're looking at whether Goodbody believed competition was working to restrain taxi prices, the answer is yes, to an extent. They observed actual price competition, particularly outside Dublin, rather than concluding that liberalisation simply resulted in higher fares.
However, there is an interesting distinction: competition between taxis did not necessarily mean the headline regulated maximum fare would fall. The maximum fare was a ceiling, while operators could compete underneath it through discounts and different pricing arrangements.
Goodbody also found that the national maximum-fare structure made fares easier for consumers to understand and that there was evidence consumers considered the post-reform structure better value for money.
-
WHY KESH VERSUS AREA 18 ...But there is a particularly relevant point about off-street ranks
If by off-street ranking you mean taxis waiting in designated areas away from the public highway—such as at airports, railway stations, hotels, shopping centres, etc.—Goodbody's argument is essentially that access to customers is a competitive issue.
They were concerned with the fact that different forms of taxi/hackney service compete for the same demand, and that restrictions on where vehicles can stand or pick up passengers can affect the competitive process.
The report's overall economic position was strongly pro-competition:
-
SO MERCH feel free to contradict anything I said .Its all in the 2009 report .and there are a few other bits not yet implimented ?
-
It's not really groundbreaking stuff John. Goodbody consultants had a look at what was going on in other countries and recommended it in their report.
The NTA have done nothing except make the taxi test easier because they're under the thumb of the apps.

YES .If you have limited skills but can drive follow a blue line .Like I said among Friends .Is the Taxi Policy racist .Lads with limited area knowledge can be exploited as they lack the knowledge to do the job to a Professional level due to lack of training so can be exploited with huge commissions and Discounts .None of your lefty Marxist Psudo Politicians taking up that case as exploitation over cheaper fares for voters is not a Vote Winner .
-
Men of limited skills and some not knowing how to read and write have been flocking to drive a taxi for years long before my time.
-
It's not as simple as following a blue line on the screen though, is it?
Off the top of my head, you have to;
- be able to deal with drunks and junkies
- know how to behave when driving people to funerals etc
- know how to talk (or not) to women so you don't end up in court...
- Be able to decipher Augustine Street (Saint), (Saint) Eithne (Etna) Street. Eccles St v. Echlin Street.
- Know NOT to follow the blue line when someone Northside says 'outside the GPO.' If you drive by the Four Courts, you're doing it wrong!
- Know taxis can use the bus lanes (unlike the app maps). If you're doing Heuston to Dame St and you drive by Custom House, you're doing it wrong!

I said this before, but if you're coming to Ireland from a poorer country to make a new life an extra 10% commission won't be the reason you go home a failure.
-
Expensive business being a newcomer. On top of the bills here (apt & taxi rent etc), I know a few and they go home for 1-2 months every 2 years or so. Probably the guts of €10k to get the family home for that length of time, nevermind the time off work. You'd think they'd be the very ones that would want to maximize their earnings & not give a quarter of their money to the apps? And then income tax & VAT on top of that...
-
I dunno if the Indian lads have their own driver groups but most of us are on our own.
The options are work the ranks with the pensioners or work the apps with discounts.. Both US owned apps are pushing the prices down on fares and Bolt has very little work. I dunno about Hola.Tap is still relatively new.
Full fares are hard to find. For the newbies, they're hungry and will just keep going and doing more hours than the rest of us who can't be arsed anymore. The apps are designed to reward loyalty so even covering discounts they'll likely earn considerably more than the rankers as they're kept busy.
-
I wonder has anyone graphed the cost of fuel vs. driving distance. RC?
Is it better to rank (full price) & drive a little bit OR drive a lot & only get 75% fare?
-
Don't forget the PUC.
The ammount of people using apps right beside a rank is hard to believe until you see it. The ranks don't move like they used to.

There is another option in the Goodbody ?? Goodbody's position could be summarised as:
Long hours → potential safety risk → investigate and measure it first → don't impose a radical restriction without evidence.
-
Chip the meter why should somebody willing to work over the time limit be allowed steal your share of the Work ?
-
One thing that seems to be forgotten. New drivers are invariably installed on the BTWEA scheme. Whether they ever worked here in the first place is a Mogadishu.
Now you're up against subsidised drivers.
Contact your local TD and see how much is being spent supporting your competition.
I asked Richard Bruton many years ago to ask, and he did.
A general factotum for Mary Hanafin said they didn't know how much money was being spent through the BTWEA!
Taxpayers money going down a financial black hole...if you'll pardon the pun.
A question perhaps for the public accounts committee?

One thing that seems to be forgotten. New drivers are invariably installed on the BTWEA scheme. Whether they ever worked here in the first place is a Mogadishu.
Might be deliberate to get them off the SW treadmill. No more dole, rent allowance etc etc if they're self-employed?
Most newcomers would probably be astonished that we reward the unemployed with a double bonus at Xmas if they're still unemployed!

Aircoach increases capacity with new double-deckers (https://www.rte.ie/news/business/2026/0824/1589035-aircoach-increases-capacity-with-new-double-deckers/)
Aircoach is launching a fleet of double decker buses on one of its busiest Dublin routes due to what it calls a 'period of increased passenger demand'.
The new coaches will be rolled out across its 700X Dublin city centre route travelling between Dublin airport and Dublin city centre.
Aircoach said its existing fleet of single-deck coaches on the 700X route will all be replaced with double-deckers, increasing the operator's passenger capacity from 49 to 97 people on every journey.
Co-incidence?
The real kick in the teeth will be when the apps start offering €5 fares from someone's home to the Aircoach bus stop >:D

FROM TODAYS INDO--4 WEEKS PAID HOLS/SICK PAY ETC
Builders now earn more and work fewer hours than at start of decade
RORY MCGINN
Builders are earning €255 more per week, on average, than they were six years ago despite working fewer paid hours, according to an analysis of Central Statistics Office (CSO) figures.
Construction workers earned €834.22 a week at the beginning of 2020. That had jumped to €1,089.21 by the second quarter of this year.
That means average weekly incomes in the sector have increased by €254.99 over the period, although figures vary across the broad mix of construction trades, which range from labourers to surveyors.
Strikingly, pay is up, but hours worked are down. The average paid working week in construction has fallen from 37.6 hours in the first quarter of 2020 to 36.5 hours now.
An analysis of CSO earnings data by the Irish Independent compared pay in the first quarter of 2020 with the latest figures for the second quarter of 2026, looking at construction, gardaí, education, health and the civil service.
The rise in construction incomes is driven by higher hourly earnings, which have climbed from €22.17 at the start of 2020 to €29.88 now. Construction workers now earn €7.71 more for each paid hour than they did six years ago.
Increased pay has also been seen across most areas of the economy.
Education workers are earning €1,260.40 per week, up from €993.54 in Q1 2020 - an increase of €266.86 per week. They have the highest hourly pay of the groups looked at, rising from €41.14 in early 2020 to €50.94 now.
Average paid hours in education have changed relatively little over the period, increasing from 24.1 hours per week to 24.7 hours. Health workers are close behind educators, with weekly pay of €1,252.91 in Q2 this year. That has increased from €978.66 at the start of 2020 - a rise of €274.25.
The average paid working week in health has fallen from 34.8 hours to 33.6 hours over the six-year period, and hourly pay has climbed from €28.16 to €37.30.
Civil servants, meanwhile, received €1,210.58 per week in the second quarter of 2026. That is €268.89 more than the €941.69 recorded in Q1 2020.
Their paid hours have fell slightly, from 36.8 hours per week to 36 hours. Hourly earnings have risen from €25.62 to €33.59 over the same period.
Gardaí remain the highest weekly earners among the groups looked at.
Members of An Garda Síochána received €1,833.73 per week in Q2 this year, compared with €1,278.24 at the start of 2020. That represents an increase of €555.49 over the six-year period. Their hourly pay has risen from €30.33 to €42.48. Across the public sector as a whole, workers are now earning €1,261.16 per week, compared with €989.96 in Q1 2020 - an increase of €271.20.
The more recent figure is above the €1,046.88 weekly average across the wider economy.

Electric Picnic is on, the football might be the only work in town.

Yes Bob yer right. Because the fixed fares don't always account for extra passengers the jobs will pay a city driver significantly less than they would have in previous years.
I'll do a bit early in the mornings and disappear.It's hard to listen to the yanks now that their fuhrer is doing so much damage to everything he touches.

Ok rathmines upper to airport 24.20
Flashed on screen
Then 5 min ltr as a normal job not taxi saver
Did it as meter not saver
39.60
We being robbed by uber
Why do it on the meter. I hope you told the cunt next time he trys that he'll be missing his flight.
-
Now we know how the rich stay rich!
Probably less in an Uber for 2pax?
A lot of them D4 types are probably sandal wearing EV driving tree hugging muesli munching muppets... probably figure the bus is going to run whether they're on it or not making their journey carbon neutral... and I guess some have probably been robbed by taxi drivers in the past (particularly from DAP) so have no idea how much whatever driver turns up might want?
-
Erm piss off with your good body report.
33.20 would have earned you 24.90 after 25% commission from Free Now.... not much in it but, perhaps, less risk with Free Now?
I don't think anyone on here is thick enough to have thought Uber were going to subsidise our wages forever. We all knew what was (or is if you're outside Dublin*) coming. I guess we just hoped it would last a bit longer?
*had the app running this morning... Three fixed fare offers, two 8.64 (9.81 before commission) and 8.76 (9.95 before commission)... both locals to the station that wouldn't turn the meter by more than €1.... and the other that I covered 40.32 (= 45.82 before commission) to DAP, metered 43.60 so settled on meter.

Ah he'ar we all got BTWEA... and PUP... and Part-Time PUP...
How much did you get for buying the EV?
-

No. you just pay 12% commission but you are supposed to register for and pay VAT @ 23% (of the 12%) on top of that under the EC Intra Community Reverse Charge Scheme. I'd say if someone's selling the app it's a scam... you won't be able to sign up without the genuine one anyway... although I don't know why you'd want to.

I wonder has anyone graphed the cost of fuel vs. driving distance. RC?
Is it better to rank (full price) & drive a little bit OR drive a lot & only get 75% fare?
Not as such but as a % of takings (from which you can probably extrapolate) my accounts show the following:
2007 = 15%
2008 = 16%
2009 = 15%
2010 = 16%
2011 = 17%
2012 = 17%
2013 = 16%
2014 = 17%
2015 = 13%
2016 = 11%
2017 = 11%
2018 = 11%
2019 = 11%
2020 = COVID
2021 = 15%
2022 = 15%
2023 = 12%
2024 = 12%
2025 = 11%
I don't have records from before 2007...
I've gone EV this year so I'd be expecting a significant reduction on foot of that.

That was never a runner. Both drivers and riders like the convenience and value added that the apps deliver. There's no doubt that apps have increased our potential productivity. In my case I frequently get app jobs from counties within which I am not licenced to ply for hire which is something no traditional depot could offer on a reasonably consistent basis.
As far as the commercial apps go, riders trust Uber, Lyft and Bolt a lot more than they might trust a random cab driver on the street or at a rank, often with good reason. In fact, let me bore you with my own recent experience in Pest:
I hired a taxi from a rank. The driver looked at my desto on my phone and said that'll be 8,000Ft or €20. Ok, well do €20 says I and off we go. I then looked at Bolt who estimated the fare at 2,500-3,000 or similar so I decided to read aloud the passenger info card attached to the headrest in the taxi. It was remarkably similar to ours (and in English for the tourists) advising that the rider is entitled to a fare calculated by the taximeter and is entitled to a printed receipt from said meter and advising that the driver is legally obliged to accept card payments.
Next the driver asks if I can pay cash so I say no. He says his card machine is playing up which I suggest is his problem not mine. So we get to the desto, he plays with his machinery then says "is 3550, not 8000" to which I say that seems fair, do you want €10 cash then... He's says, no maybe if you give me tip .. I say the tenner on offer includes a tip which I suggest is rather generous given that he tried to rob me... He still doesn't want my used ten euro note so I pay by card, we both have a bit of a chuckle, shake hands and part friends. Revolut converted the fare to €9.32.
Interestingly I noticed that both the receipt from his meter and the card receipt had his licence number printed on them and the name and address of the firm (not Bolt) he presumably works for... although he had a Bolt roof sign. Maybe they figure there's a better chance of getting caught robbing on card payments for that reason... although, to be honest, if he had taken the 8,000 by card I woulda asked for the receipt alright but I wouldn't have been arsed complaining so he woulda got away with it.
Also, we took a booze cruise on the Danube another evening, also in Pest. At the end they announced that they strongly advise against hiring taxis on the river bank and recommend using either Uber or Bolt for your security, comfort and safety.

One of the lads just showed me a job he took by accident Monday. Griffith Ave to airport. 1 passenger, 22.20 on meter, he received 15.91. logged a ticket with uber about it, they closed it immediately and said they're looking into it.
So he got payment for 71% of the meter. He shouldve cancelled the job as soon as he realised it was fixed fare.
-
Thier algorithm knows by how lightning fast lads accept airport jobs that they can drop the price and the keshies and zone 18 lads will jump all over them.
-
Yeah it definitely seems to be mostly airport jobs that theyre skimming an extra 10-15 percent off the top off

Seems nuts that any driver would consider that kinda fare to be viable but, I guess, if they're being rewarded with skip the queue Z18 passes (as seems to be the case) it might have some appeal.... drop a tenner or whatever on a fare and skip a 1/2/3/whatever it does be hour queue?
-
I dropped in Port 3pm Tuesday after 120 cash from Greystones--offered 18eu instantly to
Finlater st !
On high stool by 4.30 in DLRCOCO !
-
Tell me you didn't take the €18... in a fuckin Limo!
-
Like to be paid a fair-fare-----------------NO !
-
Just curious was it a taxi job offered or a limo job?
-
I dunno but their theory seems to be that taxi drivers are doing one way work for a price so they can make them work both ways with no waiting - although that's bollox anyway, last Z18 job I done took c.5 mins to get in and another c.10 mins to get out - for 20 or 30c more in total... but €18 for a Limo... one wonder's how many Limo drivers are dependent on the cunts these days? At least with the roof sign we have other options.

Nearly 100 std taxis available and 6-12 Premium at the time ---
Obviously it had bounced about for a while ,or maybe it was pure GPS --I was outside T2 at the time !
