Taxi drivers are a huge risk for insurance companies. As a group we have no respect for the rules of the road. Only last night I was driving down O'connell St at the maximum permissible speed of 30 kilos/hour and was passed by 17 taxis, 17 reckless morons racing down that small stretch of road with impunity. Insurance premiums will continue to increase until some politician makes the Gardai get up off their fat lazy arses and enforce the law.
Apps have a part to play, too. Taxis meandering down roads, completely out of control, while their drivers focus on tiny screens is commonplace in suburbia these days.
