No point in ringing the landlord because I'm way too cross,
and either way there is no way back now.

He who fears he will suffer, already suffers because he fears.

In all fairness Ken he has a point, instead of putting two blocks at the base, you should have tried to straighten it, over time with wire attached to the wall.

I did think about that, the tree half fell during that very wet Christmas we had about 4/5 years ago and the blocks seemed to be doing an OK job of keeping it up. I didn't wish to interfere with nature and I was concerned that the wire (regardless of what absorbing restraints I put on it) may cut the bark, so I left it alone.

Now that the tree is gone, maybe you could give the wall a lick of paint?
Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

I will water the stump with tomato feed fertilizer over the winter to help it along.

If'n Horse ever comes back he might give me some guidance on the feeding process.

Belker I'd say yer man didn't want the roots to damage either of the walls. As that thing grows it will cause them to bulge and eventually burst.Bricklayers are expensive.

One webpage I found says the taller ones need to be 4/5 meters from any structures.

I'd say there's barring orders that keeps Ken 4/5 meters from anyone!!

Yes do that. I had two of them for about 10 years, they were about 12 feet tall' but the cold winter of 09/10 killed them.   :(

Its a scam, an opportunity to make money and get votes. climate change is natural nothing to do with us. All we have to do is keep the planet tidy and clean and use everything to its max and some. And anyway co2 is the food of plant life the more co2 the more vigorous the growth, sure don't horticulturists' pump 2000 ppm of carbon dioxide into greenhouses to increase growth. There was 160 ppm of carbon dioxide 80 so million years ago plant life dies at 130ppm. And then we discovered fire. There was 41 predictions on climate doom none of them came true, polar bears have increased numbers to over 35,000 the climate alarmists have stayed silent on that one after the numbers were released. Sea levels are rising 2.7mm per year have been for millions of years, Obama bought a beach front mansion in Martha's vineyard a few years previously he said sea level rises would overcome new York,Florida and London etc, I haven't heard of banks refusing mortgages for homes in any of those places check out tony Heller, willy soon and a plethora of other scientists on their youtube channels and 31000 scientists have signed a petition in support that man isn't causing climate change. Main stream media are led and said. Scientists get millions in funding governments get extra taxes and companies make billions on wind turbines, solar panels and batteries etc. We are the losers. Plus politics recruit a whole new generation of zombies ie the marching and panicking kids.
