Quote from: john m on October 10, 2019, 11:04:35 amThere was a protection racket years ago .We would stand outside Cecil Fines bookie across from the Black Horse Pub in Inchicore .Trucks going into a lot of factories would not be loaded or unloaded if they didnt have a breaster (helper ) Truck drivers would pay you a £5er to sit in the cab or £8 if you had to help load .Unions insisted no helper no load .There usta be a bunch of lads outside campions pub next door to Bell Lines ( where the convention centre is now) waiting on them fiver brester jobs johnny. It was the in thing down the docks where unions insisted on helpers on the trucks even though they were rarely needed.

Quote from: john m on October 10, 2019, 10:42:49 amRemember hearing a story that a fork lift on the Blanch Center was operated by a local westie and you had to pay him to unload your truck or you didnt unload .He'd want more than a fork lift now to lift the 20 odd ton thats piled on top of him.
