I agree and disagree with you, DM.

Before 1978 taxis didn't even have roof signs. It was a novelty to be flagged down. Folk generally telephoned for cabs and the vast majority of drivers were aligned to radio groups hence punters just sticking their hands out was a relatively new convention - a fad that seems to have passed, if you like.

Who the fuck are NTA to tell us we are no longer entitled to legal tender? We will be the only citizens in the State who are forced to accept credit risk. It's like we're the scum of the earth and they're telling people that can pay us or not as they want. What happens when kids start using signal blockers and tell you to go fuck yourself if you can't take their card because you're not legally entitled to be paid anymore? What happens when kids start buying fake and cloned cards for 50c each and we have to give our wages back to the banks and pay the banks fees of €54.80 for the privilege of giving them back each fare we're no longer entitled to? What happens when a mobile network fails and you client says sorry you're not legally entitled to legal tender, go forth and multiply? etc??
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

When a problem arises with businesses in Dublin city centre, the first person on tv to complain is Michael Guiney leader of Dublin chamber of commerce.could you just imagine his members being told they had to accept CC payment from now on.

I honestly feel the NTA are out of their dept here by insisting that taxi drivers have to accept thay method of payment.im surprised TTNH have not sought legal advice on this on behalf of their members,or at leastget it established if the the NTA have the right to make such a proposal mandatory

FFS... you can't even use a bank card as a virtual LEAP card... fucking backward system... and all NTA is interested in is making paying taxi fares optional.

The fact that I keep hammering is you should not be told you HAVE to offer these facilities.as far as I am aware ,nowhere in law is it written that a trader HAS to offer a particular method of payment for the product he sells,so I cannot see how the NTA feel they have the right to introduce this, and I urge TTNH to challenge it

Three young women in there thirties are on a road trip and are tearing down the freeway. unfortunatley, they lose control, the car flips over the guard rail on to the opposite lanes and gets smashed by an eighteen wheeler.

Up at the pearly gates, all three of them are greeted by St. Peter. He tells them. "All of you led very good lives down on earth, so all of you will be asmitted into paradise. The only rule: "DON'T STEP ON THE DUCKS."

Confused, they all ask "Um ... what?"

St. Peter says "If you step on one duck, it quacks. If a duck quacks, other ducks will start quacking, and ... well ... you'll see."

With that, the gates opened and the three waltzed inside. And, sure enough, All of heaven is covered with ducks. there is almost no room to walk with the millions of ducks.

A day of careful stepping later, the first woman steps on a duck. Seconds later, every single duck in heaven is quacking. It's so loud the women aren't suprised if earth could hear it. Hours later, when the quacking ceased, an angel appears with a very ugly man and chains him to the lady and tells her this is her eternal punishment for the duck-stepping.

Not wanting the same fate, the other two women become very cautious for the next week, but sure enough, the second lady steps on a duck.

She gets the same punishment as the first lady.

The third lady becomes so careful that, a year-and-a-half later, she is still duck-free. Then, an angel appears next to her with a very handsome man and chains him to her.

Thinking that this must be a reward for her good-doing she asks the man gleefully "What did I do to deserve this?"

And the man replies with a grimace, "I don't know about you, but I stepped on a duck."
He who fears he will suffer, already suffers because he fears.

Correct. A person who incurs a debt is obliged to discharge it with legal tender. A person owed a debt may accept less but is entitled to legal tender. Remove that entitlement and you effectively remove any legal right to the money you are owed. This is just NTA telling riders that we are scum and that they don't have to pay us unless they want to.
