it makes no sense that new entrants are required to know more than their vastly more experienced colleagues/competitors.

 rofl

Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

The first part of tour post I would not disagree with, but the second part id be surprised if that was true.I agree F/N  and all dispatchers want to flood the industry with drivers, sure Ebbs,Kearns and kelly regularly have their gofors, standing outside the test centres handing out their shite ,and advertising how much a taxi driver makes.however the part id be surprised at is,where you claim the 3 unions you mentioned are encouraging the NTA  to allow more new entrants id like if you could show me that

I'm sure I posted links for you before, leave it with me and I might find them again.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I know the suspense is killing you, DM... and I've fuck all to do anyway... but please read and remember this time:

https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/20000-fewer-taxi-drivers-on-the-roads-since-2009-36157548.html

Joe Herron, president of the Irish Taxi Drivers' Federation, said there has been a huge number of drivers leaving the industry

Mr Herron said there has been countless drivers leaving the industry

"Other jobs have become available now and loads of people have left the business, leaving wages starting to return to a more favourable level," he said

https://www.psv.ie/taxi-magazine-february-march-2018-edition/ - page 33 Article entitled "400 Less Cabbies in the last year"

“Many people from trades in the construction sector became taxi drivers when building work dried up and they are now going back to their old jobs as they are providing more regular work and pensions” Mr. Waldron said.

He claimed that the cost for new entrants to the industry was prohibitive as first-time applicants had to buy wheelchair accessible taxis which are considerably more expensive than standard vehicles

If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I have to hand it to you rat, nobody can argue with that.the wonder of it is,though, why these so called reps were not challenged by their membership for making such comments.I know the NTA were not necessarily waiting for these reps to comment as they had their statistics, but judging by the comments made by these reps,in can only be concluded they were effectively saying to the NTA  we will oppose new entry,in fact we support it
