I know that.
sometimes I've tried to attach say 4 photos and it'll only let me send 3 because there's a lotta space involved.
but I already received the 5 jaysus photos no problem that I was sent.
it's when I reply to the e-mail the 5 different photos are transformed in to 5 pictures of the first picture.

It's a software issue, can you update the APP? Try opening and replying to the email  on a different device or using a different email client

I signed in to the old desktop version of google and I can see all the pictures now.

Why send the pictures back?

If the file size is too big there's normally an option to forward them with a google drive link.
