... but you haven't told her TOO has one, yet!

See I've started wanting one again now. I don't have an electric shower so that's no excuse... although I used to have one and the wiring is still there.

What if any extra electrical work needed to be done to facilitate an induction hob?....purely to satisfy my curiosity mind.

Wired in with the cooker.

Getting back to your gas hob, Hal... there is a little (or maybe, well) known trick among DIYers. If you're confident enough, fit the thing then turn the gas off at the meter and ring Bord Gais to report a smell of gas. They'll send a man out who'll switch it back on for you and check for leaks - with state of the art sensors, not a bottle of soapy water! - all free, gratis and for nothing!

Me missus hasn't stopped singing me praises since i finished the gaff...so much so that she now wants the kitchen worktop and tiles replaced.....generally not a problem as kitchens are what i do(did) but i flogged my worktop jig(for doin the masons cut) a long time ago,Screwfix sell them....€108......as hiring them for a weekend is just as expensive.

Ah, you don't need a jig, Get a steel corner joiner and butt the counters together. Then straighten 3 or 4 corner brackets and screw then together from underneath!!

He wants to do a better job than that! I guess it depends on the counter. If it's covered chipboard/MDF the metal divider is probably better as it'll keep water off the joint. With solid wood the jig is probably a better option provided you oil it properly and all that.

If he puts in a solid wood (block wood) countertop the jig is the only way to go, but most people go with chipboard and use the jig which is a bad job. (as you said)

I'm thinking hal is a chipboard type of guy.

I was thinking of making my own counter from oak or something like that, not sure though... Solid wood is a better look but not as practical as covered chip... in a working kitchen you need to be able to put hot pans and trays down, that'll make shit of solid whereas a decent quality covered chip won't bat an eyelid.
