Aren't we all foreigners?

As a living being everything outside of us is foreign but we create connections and social bonds to survive.

Us as Individuals
Our family
Our friends
Our Community
Our Village or Town
Our Team
Our County
our Country
Our Species
Our World
Our Universe
Our understanding of everything (God or whatever that means to you)

Where do you stop?

We all came from the same place so not really foreigners are we?

Getting annoyed about immigrants allegedly taking our jobs is like as a child being jealous of your siblings because they got a bigger piece of cake.

I like to think the irish are tolerant and welcoming.

I realise that if any of us moved to Africa or India and tried to work as taxi drivers we wouldn't get a nice reception. probably machetes!

Doesn't mean we have to be the same. Like to think we are better educated and more open minded.

If someone is being a dickhead it doesn't mean we have to be.

Ireland is a different place today. Years ago our population emigrated and did the same as the people coming to Ireland today for a better life. Bunked six to a room in London or the States. Worked all hours for less than the going rate and treated like shit by the locals. We should feel complimented that people leave their homes and come to a strange country because they think it is safe and a good place to raise their families. Yea there are a percentage who won't stay but the irish were the same.

My father was a brickie, He learnt his trade in London in the sixties living in a caravan on the building sites. During the eighties he had no work for years, I earnt more than him as a boy. He went to the states and worked illegally and sent money home living in an apartment with five other paddies. The unionised american workers didn't appreciate him or thousands of other paddies taking the jobs they didn't want to do or bitched about.
.
New blood is good for communities and countries. It invigorates it because the incumbents are set in their ways, the new blood brings energy and ambition.

U wha
Your quite entitled to your view, and I dare say thousands would agree with you.

Im not one of them however.

These people came here, and in most industries they are working for less then the legally established minimum rate of pay.

They have undercut the Irish workforce who had fought hard to establish that rate of pay in the first place

The ongoing campaign to bring them here by employers and big business masquerading under the banner of compassion for them is totally false.

The only reason the employers want them here,is so they can avail of the cheap imported labour.

These people are prepared to prostitute themselves out to the highest bidder, while in total breach of the established rate of pay.

People like you then say the Irish wont do the trivial hobs, but the fact is,the irish wont do these hobs because they are not being paid the correct rate of pay.

These people to a large extent, have come here, and totally abused the generous welfare system.

Im sorry u wha,but I could NEVER welcome them as I sit on the little rank outside PWC ,and watch these s umbags ILLEGALLY pull in and sit right outside the boat on the far side more or less giving two fingers to me on the OFFICIAL rank just across the road ,and then if anything is said, the fukin racist vard is played

When the foreigners arrived, they probably didn't know how things worked in Ireland so they looked around to see how the locals did things.  They learned from your comrades how the taxi trade works.  So don't blame the blow-ins, blame your comrades for setting the bar so low.  At the beginning, they probably sat on the PWC rank like yourself but they copped on pretty quick when your comrades broke all the rules.

They get the same money as us in the taxi game, DM. Since entry liberalisation anyone can have a go, the only way to undo that is to revoke all licences issued since 1998 and go back to Bertie's Forum. Most drivers came into the trade after that so they knew what they were getting into or, at least, should have. What sort of moron would expect to establish a lucrative business on foot of a IRĀ£5,000 licence that was available to anyone without any lobbying?

If you ever get nostalgic and want to practice your old man's trade for no wages give me a shout, UW!
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Good job sleepy Joe didn't shake hands with him. I'd say there's a ton of people in the white house have it. He was on a chat show last night saying when you meet people it's hard to tell them to stand back!

Best news I've heard in months.
Trump has called for help, so I'm on a plane heading for The Strait of Hormuz, talk soon.

Trump has Covid? All jokes aside I wouldn't wish that poxy virus on anyone. The long term damage it can do is frightening.

And don't get me wrong. I'm no fan of Covid either..
