Coronavirus Ireland: Dublin areas with highest and lowest rates of COVID-19 with city almost complete 'red zone'

Two areas posted staggeringly high 14-day incidence rates of OVER 2,000 cases per 100,000, with nearly every area in Dublin doubling their incidence rate in the space of a week

The latest figures released by Ireland's COVID-19 data hub show the firm hold the virus has on the capital - with just one area left standing with a 14-day incidence rate of less than 1,000 cases per 100,000.

In addition to that grim statistic, two areas posted staggeringly high 14-day incidence rates of OVER 2,000 cases per 100,000, with nearly every area in Dublin doubling their incidence rate in the space of a week.

As a result, Dublin is almost a total COVID-19 red zone at the moment.

The incidence rate is a measurement of the rate of coronavirus per 100,000 of population between December 29 last year and January 11, with the map on the COVID-19 data hub breaking it down in every Local Electoral Area (LEA).

Tallaght Central stays top of the capital's grimmest league table, with a mind-boggling 2237.6 cases per 100,000 - nearly double their table-topping figure of 1210.2 from the last data update.

Dublin is almost totally a COVID-19 red zone

Nearby Rathfarnham-Templeogue and Firhouse-Bohernabreena round out the top three, with the former also topping 2,000 with 2,087.3 cases per 100,000.

Firhouse-Bohernabreena's total sits just below that bleak milestone, with 1970.6 cases recorded per 100,000.

Ballyfermot-Drimnagh crashes into the top 5 with 1912.4 per 100,000, while Kimmage-Rathmines sits on 1863.6.

Balbriggan remains at the bottom of the table, but like Tallaght Central at the top, their figure of 864.1 cases per 100,000 is nearly double their total of 443 from last week.

Balbriggan is also the left LEA with an incidence rate below 1,000.

Rush-Lusk has the second lowest rate on 1142.1, followed by Glencullen-Sandyford (1185.1), Pembroke (1185.3 ) and Blackrock (1218.6).

Here's a rundown of the latest cases per 100,000 in every LEA in the period 29/12/20 to 11/1/21:

I think Dr. Tony's out of his depth at this stage. The erm posted international numbers that put us behind both the United States of America and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In fact we were nearly as bad as both of those combined. Credit where credit is due and debit where debit its due. Of course, the effects of that Mehaul cunt's puppy dole cuts are very evident in our trade with men being forced to spread the virus to put bread in their childers' mouths.

Did you see today's joint report with the head of the Northern Irish version of NPHET? Dr. Tony's name was in second place despite representing the participant country with the (significantly) largest population, significantly more cases and significantly more deaths... the writing could be right beside King Billy, on the wall. The only numbers Northern Ireland beat us on is the number of vaccines administered, being very significantly ahead on the number of vaccines per head of population.

Neighbour of mine, his wife is in a small Sth Dublin nursing home --27 cases this week all asymptomatic--this home never had a case before as most of staff live in and management extra cautious--its frightening how quick its got out of hand  !

That said in my 3 hours effort this morning --refused at least 6 jobs ferrying between regular party houses--surrendered with my 35 yoyos and went for a walk at sunrise on Bray seafront --not a copper/checkpoint in sight anywhere !

It will be worse in the morning with UFC on--

Credit where credit is due, the numbers are looking considerably better now. Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart, Ballymun-Finglas, Ballyfermot-Drimnagh, Tallaght South and North Inner City the only areas over 1,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. A lot done, more to do. If you livek in one of the aforementioned will you for fuck sake wash your fucking hands!

Latest list of Dublin areas with highest and lowest rates of COVID-19 shows hugely encouraging signs

The figures show the rate per 100,000 in most Local Electoral Areas has fallen by hundreds in the space of a week

The latest list of rates of COVID-19 in Dublin shows hugely encouraging signs that we are winning the battle against the deadly bug.

The figures from Ireland's COVID-19 Data Hub show that the rate per 100,000 in most Local Electoral Areas has fallen by hundreds in the space of a week.

Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart remains the worst affected LEA in the capital with 1005.5 cases per 100,000 in the period between January 19 and February 1.

But while the rate remains high, it is a big drop of 266.2 compared to the two week period up to January 25.

Lucan has the second highest rate with 852.8 with a drop of 140.6 from last week.

They are followed by Ballymun-Finglas on 805.3 (a drop of 294.5), North Inner City on 787.6 (a drop of 221.6) and Ballyfermot-Drimnagh on 768.4 (a drop of 321.3).

Dundrum is the LEA with the lowest rate per 100,00 after dropping 267 to 315.1.

It is followed by Killiney-Shankill on 325.6 (drop of 281), Stillorgan on 337.6 (drop of 314.7), Glencullen-Sandyford on 355 (drop of 196.6) and Howth-Malahide on 359.8 (drop of 288.6).

The biggest drop came in Kimmage-Rathmines which fell 415.3 to 494.1.

Chair of the NPHET Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group, Professor Philip Nolan, revealed at a media briefing that rates of the virus had fallen across all ages and the R number has dropped to well below 1.

But he urged a note of caution, warning that the decline in cases is likely to slow in the coming weeks.

He said: “The next few weeks will be difficult for all of us, as we bring the daily case levels below 1,000 per day, our progress will seem to slow down.

"It is now more important than ever that we continue our efforts to bring case numbers down towards the very low levels we achieved in June and July.

"In that regard, it is very good news that our estimates of the R number are well below one – in the region of 0.5 – 0.8.

“I noted last week that the testing of close contacts will impact on case numbers in the coming days.

"We shouldn’t be disappointed by this, it shows that we have moved from the mitigation phase of the last few weeks, back to the containment phase where we are tracking down every possible chain of transmission."

Here's the latest cases per 100,000 in Dublin

CORONAVIRUS BY NUMBERS - CASES AND DEATHS AS OF FEBRUARY 26

The rate of COVID-19 infection in one north Dublin area remains worryingly high at 798 cases per 100,000 people.

Ballymun-Finglas retains the spot for Dublin area with the highest incidence rate, although it has dropped slightly from the 819 rate it was at last week.

That's still over three times more than the national average at 240.4 cases per 100,000 people.

The lowest rate in the capital is in Stillorgan where it currently sits at 95.1 which is a significant drop from last week when it was 173.7.

Another area that has seen a huge improvement is Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart which was the highest in all of Ireland only weeks ago. It's now at 529.6, down from 606.1 last week and 756.2 the week before that.

The average case numbers are steadily growing in Tallaght South, which is currently at 555.5. Last week, this number was 518.8 and this was another large jump from 468.1 the week before.

Clondalkin (412.7) and Kimmage-Rathmines (354.5) are the other areas with the biggest jumps, with most of Dublin seeing a decrease in the average cases.
