My pedantry is a bit cheeky, as I struggle with many aspects of English grammar, particularly the appropriate use of commas, colons and semi colons. I don't know if it was a Kindle translation error, but when reading John Banville recently, I was surprised at his ubiquitous use of the hyphen in sentences. It was the first time that I had read this particular author, and I wished that I had a dictionary to hand, as I came across so many words that I had never seen before. The growing acceptance, even in journalstic circles, of finishing sentences with prepositions adds to the general lowering of standards.

I can't stand when people say "Listen, ..." or  "Look, ..." at the start of sentences.

I think it's called condescending.

True SB....but when someone starts talking to ye with the word "listen".....i tend not to as that sets the tone...which to me is in itself condescending.

Someone who wants to end a phone call with  " Go on, I'll let you go".

Yes, usually it's the "someone" who wants to go, but there are times when you want to believe that "someone" is performing an act of mercy.

So what's wrong with listen or look, they're literally telling you what they'd like you to do.

I assume that it's the polite difference between "telling" and "asking".

So I thought it was literally expressing whether they're being artistic or autistic.

It's even worse when cunts go "Ah listen, ..." and "Ah look, ...".
Even worser when cunts go "Ah sure listen, ..." and "Ah sure look, ..."
