Three unlicensed taxi drivers intercepted in one evening by Garda police in Dublin (Taxi-point.co.uk)

Quote
Three unlicensed taxi drivers were intercepted in a single evening by Garda Police in Dublin.

The force's Commercial Vehicle Unit at Dublin Castle Roads Policing Unit pulled one of the taxis over to find the vehicle was being driven without any tax, by a driver operating under a false licence.  According to a tweet posted on the Garda Police's traffic account @GardaTraffic, this was the third unlicensed taxi intercepted that evening.  All three had their vehicles seized, and are likely to face further prosecution.

A spokesperson for Garda Police said: “Commercial Vehicle Unit at Dublin Castle Roads Policing Unit intercepted a taxi yesterday evening; driver had no tax was operating under a false licence. Vehicle seized.  ”This was the third unlicensed taxi intercepted by Dublin Castle RPU yesterday evening.”

Jaysus lads, somebody's out there breaking the law on our behalf.  It's just not right.  We should be breaking the law ourselves  :P

That's a strange tale and not adding up fer me at all.

He had a false licence, so whose licence did he have ?
No mention of insurance, so I expect he was insured ??
Who owned the car ?
Did it have a roofie and stickers ?
Where was he picking his fares up from ?

Makes no sense to me.

NO TAX .I was thinking was it stopped for no tax because the owner cancelled his taxi insurance and was afraid to renew the tax as he had no valid taxi insurance on the vehicle .Would that be a trigger for the Gards to then check that the vehicle had valid TAXI insurance if not and it had a roofie legally it would have no valid insurance as it was operating as a taxi .We are told by the insurance company to remove the roofie when we step down our insurance .It just seemed strange that the Gards said WITHOUT ANY TAX as opposed to operating illegally .

I wonder how many lads who stepped down their insurance to Private still pop on the Roofie if they want to go down to their mates who live more than 5K away .Technically if you do you are operating an uninsured Taxi .

I just rang a garda I know .He confirmed if you do not have valid taxi insurance on your vehicle and have a roof sign on the Roof .You are operating a Licenced taxi irrespective or whether you have a passenger on board or not without insurance .You can and will be charged with that offence if detected .He said there have been a few already but none have yet appeared in court for a hearing .He also said if convicted of driving an uninsured taxi the Garda commissioner would object to the renewal of your licence .How many drivers might be out there working on reduced Insurance cover to try save a few quid ?.
