Yeah, I fitted a T90 years ago when we bought the gaff... it only lasted 5 years with our rock hard water. Getting rid of it was one of my better decisions, particularly since my conversion to eco warriorism. They're nigh on impossible to knock on and off as you soap yourself and get the temperature right, particularly with your eyes closed... although that'd be more relevant to those of us with hair to shampoo!

Olivia Foley From the Flats got a Council Gaff in Wexford years ago .It had those solar panels on the roof great for hot water but only enough to run two showers she had 8 kids and a HUSBAND .They were the older Solar panels .Not worth a fuck when they are covered by snow .Is the Hippy minister for stuff not offering a grant for heat pumps where you drill down into the bowls of the earth and harvest free heat .Could you run your central heating and hot water off of something like that .

I don't think heat pumps are sufficiently developed yet, erm. They're hugely expensive to install and the gaff needs serious insulation to retain the little bits of heat you might get for the outlay. I'd say only barely a runner for a new build with triple gazed eco friendly windows provided you don't open the little vents on top of the windows. Solar seems to work OK within the limitations you suggest i.e with a dual coil cylinder that uses the gas/oil boiler in conjunction with the solar... or, at least, with an electric immersion heater on a single coil cylinder.

Modern day Showers .Whatever happened to the ring of dirt around the bath .Happy Days .Or putting the kettle on the Gas cooker and filling the basin .The Oulone would say wash your face and neck first I remember asking why and she said if you wash your hole and Bollox first before  your face your breath will smell of shite .First time I ever heard the word Bollox used in a sentence and learned that to make a point you were allowed to exaggerate .

Where will it all end... could we bypass the heat pump by just drilling down to build winter rooms under our gaffs... before global warming drowns us?

Olivia Foley must have relatives in Reykjavik.  I was there in 1982, and every building was supplied with heat and electricity via geo- thermal energy.

They drilled down to the lava and poured on water, the result was steam for decades.

At one point  Iceland grew the most bananas in Europe thanks to all the greenhouses.

I blame the BBC it brought us decadence .Back in the day when we only had the one Station and Gaybo and Mike Murphy and Larry Gogan we were happier .If you were cold wear a jumper if you were cold in bed trow a few coats over you a bath on a Saturday night get in after your Da and your sisters then a spoon full of Syrip of Figs or Milk of Magnesia to clean out your insides .Central heating only existed in Hotels and a shower was something you ran for cover from because you had holes in the soles of your shoes .Jack Lynch was Taoiseach and we had none of this Covid Crap things were so much better before we all got corupted by the BBC.I remember Big Dommos Granny we were all in Grafton Street to see the Switzers Front Window and RTV rentals had a shop on Grafton Street and they had a Colour telly in the front window and it had the BBC globe testcard showing and beside it was the Radio Telefish Eireann test card a little girl .And Big Dommos Granny said Look the BBc is showing you the world while RTE had some relation of somebody with influence as the test card but it will all end in tears she said the BBC will ruin everything with its coloured ideas .And look now she was right .

Technically they did, as no one paid their bills.
Although I hear The Towers and Penthouse were paid in full.

You'd be better checking with the Community Welfare Officer,  they usually ended up paying both.

Talking to my accountant this week and the subject of expenditure came up .The water in Clondalkin is just short of Toxic .We use to get our water from Leixlip and it was fairly good but now we get it from some open sewer somewhere .The smell of Chlorine off the water reminds me of going to Tara Street Baths with the Youth Club .We were spending about 15 euro a week on bottled water .He suggested an In line filter to be fitted to the cold water supply but there are none available in any of the Plumbing Providers so Her what Rules the Roost bought a filter Jug makes a huge difference to the quality of the drinking water .
I know. Does it also filter the fluoride,  which is the chlorine smell?
the chlorine smell is the chlorine .

Brilliant.  Irish water smells of chlorine  and tastes like fluoride.
