365 days since my last fare
« on: March 16, 2021, 05:26:38 pm »
A bit of a milestone today.  It's been 365 days since my last fare!

This time last year, the virus had been circulating in Ireland for about 2 weeks and I knew a lockdown was coming.  I'd already decided to make 16th March my last day before the lockdown because there was no way I was working on Paddy's Day with upto 1M people infecting each other in Dublin city centre.  My last fare was 9.30am on the 16th and I just 'knew' that was my one and only fare for the day.  So I drove around for an hour until the off-licences opened.  Been doing pretty much the same thing every since  :2cheers

I thought it would only be a short lockdown because people usually don't want to die and they'd stay home for a couple of weeks and we'd be back to normal in 2 or 3 weeks.  Little did I know we'd still be here a year on.  Google Maps sends me a monthly update on mileage driven and any highlights of places I've visited.  Last month, my 'highlight' was Powercity.  I bought a kettle!

We've all heard of evolution but I think I'm devolving  >:D  I was never much of a TV person but now I can watch TV for 9 hours each day without moving an inch.  If this lockdown goes on any longer, they're gonna have to crane me out of the house...

When do you think it'll end?  Mehole says he's gonna think about it in April, Vlad says no chance before end of May, and Pascal says he'll review the PUP etc in June.  They're hoping/praying to get 80% of the population a first jab by Sept (kinda herd immunity) but I very much doubt that's gonna happen.  I think we're gonna have to wait until the virus mutates itself out of existance?

My guess.
Pubs/restaurants open anywhere between June 1-30, possibly outside only if 1st, possibly restrictions for inside seating if 30th. European travel possible August 1st with a Vaccination Passport.
Trump has called for help, so I'm on a plane heading for The Strait of Hormuz, talk soon.

Pubs wont open till September ,There WILL NOT be a Vaccination Passport Civil liberties and GDPR prevents it its not Legal .

The Riots that start Tomorrow will last until next week .Dont be surprised to see the Government over thrown and a General election being called .Some serious Anarchists behind this and a load of  dumb fucking women ,who would inject Monkey Spunk into their lips or get tattooed with ink they dont know anything about or wear rubber diddies fitted by some quack and snort or inject any type of drug but think the Government are trying to drug their children on behalf of Bill Gates .

Airlines can, and do, make their own rules, if you want to fly.

Do you miss it, Watty? I don't, to be honest.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I miss the money!

It's been a bit of a wakeup call, tbh.  I used to think it'd be great if I won the lotto and I'd never have to work again.  Or it'd be great when I got the (State) pension and I could spend my days how I wanted.  Turns out if I have nothing to do, I do nothing.  I'm not one of those people who can walk 10,000 steps a day or knit a jumper while improving their French language skills via some phone app.  I'm genetically lazy.

To answer your question, I do miss it a little bit.  I couldn't go back to a 9-5.  Taxiing is the 'path of least resistance' to making a living.  I'll never be rich but I'll always earn enough.  Assuming the robo-taxis are decades, not years, away.

I'm naturally lazy myself but I found a quick review of "what have I done/achieved today" and what might I do tomorrow at bedtime provides a degree of self motivation. During the good weather I also found a renewed appreciation for the local environment. Fresh air is definitely a must in combatting laziness. Still have the back garden to tackle if it goes on much longer!

I'm pretty sure my laziness is medical or something...

Recently I drove to a local park with the idea of going for a walk.  Before I left the house, I made sure my phone/music player was charged up and I had the right music on the phone.  I also had to ensure my bluetooth headphones were charged up.  I bought them a few years back in anticipation of exercising someday so I had no idea if they actually worked or not.  Anyways, all that planning and preparation delayed me by a day/day & a half.

When I eventually got to the park, I walked around for 15 minutes and I was actually counting down those 15 minutes.  Once I'd satisfied myself I could actually walk for 15 mins, I got back into my car and drove home.

I've not had the urge to walk again since.  But I now know I could if I wanted to!

You should try a few hobbies, fishing might be a good one for you, it doesn't require a huge amount of effort but it is relaxing and it gets your mind working, best bait to use, best spots to try etc, better to be sitting at a lake fishing than watching tv all day.
