Maybe it's like the PUP - easier to give it to everyone rather than try to work out a means-testing scheme in a few weeks.

They will need to do a means test for next year and the year after that .If The War in Ukrain continues then no Gas will drive up costs .The Brits who guaranteed the price of energy will be bankrupt before the next FA Cup .I wonder how many old people are in those death camps but still getting the heating and ESB money paid to their kids that live in their gaffs with their dusky girlfriends or boyfriends who sent them to Stalag Nursinghome .

Read somewhere today that something like 125,000 or 175,000 households are in arrears already!

For the average household, their Oct bill will be (almost) double their Aug bill AND their Dec bill will be (almost) double the Oct one!  We ain't seen nothing yet!  Over 100,00 in arrears already...

In other news to cheer you up, OPEC met recently and agreed to limit oil output and this will probably increase energy prices around the world.

Quote
Some of the world's top oil-producing countries have agreed to cut the amount they export in a decision expected to raise oil prices around the world.

Members of Opec+ - a group that includes Saudi Arabia and Russia - said they would slash production by two million barrels per day.

The group aims to support prices which have fallen as the world economy slows.

A barrel of Brent Crude oil was trading at $84.06 in late September - down from highs of around $130 this spring.

However, news of Opec+'s planned production cut pushed prices up by 1% to $92.74 a barrel on Wednesday.

The cut announced by Opec+ is the biggest reduction by the group since 2020. <snip>

The Yanks have said they wont release any more oil from their strategic reserves .So their exports of oil will also drop as they need it at home .Expect about 15c more by the end of the month .2.00 a liter will be the norm again .

No.  The energy companies will get €600 to mitigate or reduce their customer bills.  Nothing to stop the leccy companies increasing the bills until they get their pint of blood on top of the €600.

Talk to any of your friends/passengers with those Pre-Pay meters - they'd be nearly crying by the end of their story.  The money just vanishes out of those meters.

We get a good chunk of our gas from the UK (Scotland).  Their energy regulator wrote to our one last week warning there's no guarantee that they'll keep supplying us.  If they stop (Brexit negotiations á la Putin & his pipelines), what are we gonna do?  We'd be fukked.  Houses would be ok but I guess many industries would have to shut down.

I'm nowhere near as pessimistic as JohnM but I think we're in for a long 6 months & a quiet Xmas.

Watty the 600 only last till March 2023 .I posted in the Brexit tread years ago the Brits can introduce export Duty on everything they export including Gas and Electricity to Ireland .Leos Backpassage deal let Boros get Brexit Done .If he done what he was told and let Barnier do the EU deal the Brits might of had a second referendum or accepted Mrs Mays Deal .Brexit was delayed by Covid now watch Cynide Tits play hardball with the EU she has nothing left to play with after backing down on tax cuts .All she has left is Brexit and exporting migrants to Rwanda .Im not Pessamistic I am a realist .

Most think they're doing great cos they think they're on top of things but there's no tellin them they're  being fleeced and they're usually the one's on low income/SW and I know that most of the utility companies require a deposit if they enquire about signing up,almost being corralled into the poverty trap!!
