Nothing an angle grinder wouldn't sort out

I just hope the pen is mightier than the sword in this case.

Here is what you do 90 .Ring your local newspaper and ask for a reporter .If there is one available they are usually useless .Real reporters wont be in the office they will be out chasing story's .Now you will have somebody looking for something to write .You tell him about the Dangers of unlicensed taxi drivers operating over the busy Christmas period and how dangerous it is .Refer him to incidents of passengers being attacked reference some cases you will find them on here .If he is any sort of reporter he will ask you for evidence .You give him your mans Name car reg  roof sign number and tell the reporter about the taxi check app So he can check on what you told him and also advise passengers to check their taxi with the app in his article ,making him look clever ..Taxi regulator will respond to that story if its printed especially when you copy and paste it to all your local TDs .

I was thinking of doing this actually lately. Will see what I can do.

For me its 2 years, which is crazy, imagine someone getting away with that in the UK or Germany etc good old Ireland.

The NTA would rather fine us for harmless things like letting our licence expire(while not working).
That 'Calcutta cab' has been working your patch fer a long time now 1990, I remember you posting about him years ago.
Did you report him to the NTA ?

Of course I did as did other taxi drivers. For some reason they haven't caught him yet, its a bit of a lawless area I operate in unfortunately. There are illegal drivers caught in nearby towns but they don't seem bothered by this guy, he is flat out, making a lot of money I think. I thought Revenue would have nabbed him, who knows maybe they are watching him.

Given that he has an established client base would he qualify for a LAH licence? The licence fees / insurance / income tax aren't all that expensive, particularly spread over the number of fares a full-time or reasonably enthusiastic part-time driver may complete.

There's probably a strong case for expansion of the LAH plate issue scheme. Imagine what would happen if your local publican started charging Dublin prices for pints of porter, T1990. I blame Kathleen Doyle for creating a National Taximeter Area (or the lad before her, your man who had the premium rate phone line scam... if it was during his tenure). Notwithstanding the fact that  I can't remember who to blame, give it back to the City/Town/County Councils, I say.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

As far as I know this guy wouldn't get a SPSV Licence, he has a very checkered past also he operates in a town where there are plenty of taxis and hackneys available so wouldnt qualify for LAH plate issue scheme. I doubt he would want one, he doesn't like paying tax, he has came to the attention of Revenue on numerous occasions for other business activities(for not paying income tax). He wouldn't pay taxi insurance either.

it was pretty sickening reading the NTA latest update that they sent us, showing all the illegal drivers they caught, funny how they cant/won't catch this low life. Once people realize you can get away with this kind of activity then others will follow and that is going to impact on legit drivers and also the NTA as they wont be getting as much money from legit drivers.

does anyone know anyone operating illegally as long? 18 months to 2 years.

The LAH is for areas with no taxis.  They can't co-exist and taxi drivers can object to their applications.

Unless taxi1990 is in a touristy area, the arrival of sober NTA inspectors looking for taxis at midnight would stand out like a sore thumb.  Esp if the bogey has his regulars?

Does he have a roofsign?  If so, does the number exist somewhere else in the country?  If you could find him, maybe get that taxi driver to complain to his local Gardai.  External pressure might motivate your local Gardai?

A local lad here who drive his own MPV(it's red and stands out from everything else in the area), he's a known hackney driver. Anyway spotted his car with his Mrs driving it, though nothing of it, then I spotted him driving it, but this time to daisys in the windows. He would be sitting outside pubs and clubs in the town, and has no daisys in at least a year.

The only reason a licence is refused is to sex offenders or drug users, perhaps advertise it in the area.

I'd say he was just a lazy prick, and saved some money on insurance and the like.

It is a tourist area he operates in. he has no roof sign or door stickers. calling his phone is the only way to use his service.

yeah, might have to do that. he works for a cab company in the town, doing a few runs. Wonder if the owner knows about this.

Hopefully the NTA do their job wherever you work.
