Tis the season to be jolly.  Or not.

‘Taxis for Ireland’ coalition formed to urge government to address ‘extreme shortage’ hurting businesses

Quote
A newly-formed Taxis for Ireland Coalition calls on the Government to address the taxi supply shortage.  The coalition was formed by six organisations from the tourism, hospitality and enterprise sectors.

They wrote to Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and the Transport Minister Eamon Ryan today to appeal to the Government to acknowledge the ongoing crisis, as they say the “extreme shortage” of taxis in cities, towns and rural areas across the country has been affecting the Irish public, economy, tourism, and hospitality businesses for years.

Seven out of 10 people across the country find it difficult to get home from pubs and restaurants in their area, surveys conducted by the group found. Some publicans are operating an “informal taxi service” to get customers home, the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland said.

Coalition members, such as the Restaurants Association of Ireland, Uber, Bolt, and the Vintners Federation of Ireland, have undertaken four surveys this year, which led to the conclusion that the public has a very poor view of the availability of taxis.

More than 63pc of publicans described their local taxi or hackney service as either poor or non-existent, a survey finds.

<snip>

Although the Coalition has acknowledged the work of the National Transport Authority in this area, such as a driver recruitment campaign or increasing fares, they have not resulted in increasing taxi availability, which should be treated as a matter of urgency, they added.

No mention of Dublin Bus or Local Area Hackney licences but hey ho...

The squeeze at finishing up time on Fri/Sat and at Xmas has been around since Jaysus was in short pants and will never change, you can't just quadruple the fleet of taxis for a few hours a week and xmas week just to get over a hump, there's the rest of the week/year to factor in where there's more than ample cabs around.

If they got rid of that bed symbol the greedy khunts might get a driver a bit quicker. ::fds ::fds ::fds

Another way to look at it is, if I choose to work a Saturday night, I wont do it if I think I will earn less than 150 euro, so by allowing Uber operate, what are them guys going to make 100 euro? would that be worth working from 10 pm to 4 am dealing with pukers, angry tight customers who dont want to pay the fare, people who are so drunk they dont know their own name and cant remember where they live. people who think they are hilarious and annoy the head off ya, people with empty wallets when you get to their house etc etc

Rideshare could make the situation worse when them guys realize its not worth the hassle and jack it in, and it wont work in rural areas, there arent enough customers to make it viable, that is where local area hackney may just work.

Pub and hotel staff push all of their customers onto the street at the same time, then follow them shortly afterwards and complain they can't get a taxi.

No mention of a BUS, a DART or a TRAM.

If them ejits get their way they will have all sorts driving their customers home, boy racers, N plate drivers (worst drivers on the roads), drug dealers etc

would the pub owners like to see a wetherspoons opened in all Irish towns? or is it ok that uber can undercut taxis?

The NTA will tell them to fuck off eventually.  ::)

Who in their right mind would promote Uber? a business designed to kill the taxi business and enslave drivers.

Is it that hard for 1 person out of a group to not drink so they can get home from a restaurant or pub?

Should all nightclubs close at the same time so that bar owners can live in mansions?

FFS would you ever grow up .This is useless Irish Journalists getting 40 euro for an article some useless illiterate fucktard who took Journalism in Griffith College looking for a Story to get the Christmas Pudding Money .I held a membership for the National Union of Journalists the NUJ that is all you need to submit a piece to any Editor but they wont print your stuff .Read back over this forum or Roys I exposed things years before Irish Journalists .I ask any of you to find an earlier article in the Irish media about Covid or rickshaws dealing drugs before I posted ,Watch the Deliveroo drivers getting done for dealing like I predicted .I was also right about Leo and how he will fuck up this country .Dont play this game .The person writing these articles probably live in a tent .It is discusting that NO journalist asks why taxi drivers have to pay 15% for access to THEIR WORK why HOTELS WANT 2 EUROS of our WAGES to give us our work .I know Jurnos read this as I get personal calls regularly from Journalists for comments .I would like to see an Honest Journalist asking why the National Transport Authority do not provide an app it is Infrastructure not competition .If any journalist wants to do a piece contact me I will give you the insight I will actually write it with you .
