I didn't opt out because where I work I would get a lot of night jobs going out of Cork city to rural towns and if I was lucky enough to get a hotel job while out of town going back to the city I would jump on it regardless of the bed logo or not.

The city bed logos I have (I think) all blocked or I don't do them anyway.
The last one I got caught with was the Imperial hotel to the airport 20 n'odd on the meter and it galled me to have to hand back a Fiver.

Jaysus Octy, you wouldn't last long working for Free Now in the northside suburbs up above in Dublin ifn you don't want to carry anyone buying or selling drugs. Back when alcohol was the drug of choice a busy night involved primarily dropping off and picking up at local bars. Nowadays you mightn't do a single bar drop off / pick up on a busy shift. Not sure why you'd concern yourself with it at all, it's pretty much decriminalised nowadays. I got a 3 figure job on Monday from a man organising afternoon tea... at least that's what I assumed when he phoned one of the contacts we were visiting to ask if he could source a bag of green to go with whatever else had been ordered!

Do you fuck passengers out if they smell of cannabis? ... that'd be 63.8% of the Free Now clients I get!

If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

On the plus side, I guess you don't have to buy those air freshener 'trees'.  A win-win  yippee

True, I don't mind the smell of cannabis. I used to spray Dettol air freshener after such trips but it's so common nowadays that I don't bother. Them tree things make me sneeze so I can't use them. I also have an allergy to newspaper print which causes dryness in my nose and mouth and a rash around my mouth after prolonged exposure... strange as it may seem, I get exactly the same reaction to spilt cocaine.. I can even sense when it's being snorted in the car almost instantly.

I always liked a pint or a whiskey, Octy so I don't criticise or judge those who prefer different mind altering drugs. Why one is legal and others aren't or are labelled "decriminalised" is a whole new debate, I guess.

Octy I'd say a lot of those Emails are automated.Just mark them as spam and don't worry about it unless they kick you off it.I still haven't done a job for them since November.I dunno if I'm down money but it's worth it for the peace of mind.

Unless you have those stickers on the car it's not worth leaving on the phone IMO.Shite work all day off it.

I'm going to reactivate my Uber account tomorrow... that €1.54 hospitality fee was the last straw!

Try this from Tesco, only 1 Euro.
Very easy on the nose,
I keep one in the front seat back pocket where I can easily reach it and give a quick spray on the floor in the back.

The Dettol one works for me, Ken. I've been using it for c.29 years now, since it was called Dettox in fact!

Back on topic, I got a nonsensical reply from the depot, as follows:

Hello Stephen,

Thanks for reaching out. We just need a bit more information from you in order to identify which trip you have contacted us about.

Can you please confirm the following:

-Date and time of trip
-Pick up and drop off location

If possible, please send a screenshot of the booking details so I can look into this further.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

To which I replied:

Hi *****,

I haven’t contacted you about a trip. I have contacted you about a charge described as "Hospitality Charge Ireland" and a seemingly related credit described as “Hospitality Rebate”.

I assume you can trace why you have charged and credited the relevant amounts. As explained, I opted out of hospitality jobs some time ago, something that was acknowledged through a subsequent “survey” telephone call from the depot hence the net charge merits some explanation.

Your attention to the same is very much appreciated and I look forward to your reply.

Best Regards,

Stephen

On a similar note, the all new Opt out/in payment feature on FN still sends me non-app payment jobs even after opting out.

I'd imagine it's the same as the radius feature.  When it gets busy or it suits them, your personal opinion goes out the window and they'll send you jobs they want you to do.
