It's amazing how little Govt (even the otherwise great ex Minister for Transport) know about our trade. Most TDs seem to labour under the misapprehension that Uber relies on unlicensed cars/drivers. Uber operates across Europe using licensed vehicles. I guess where we differ from the likes of London and Spain is that we don't have a significant Private Hire (hackney) sector as a result of entry liberalisation of the taxi trade back in 1999. In any event, I guess the Taoiseach is now on the same page as the NPHTA/Uber/Bolt coalition. I guess ending the current temporary moratorium on the issue of saloon plates (maybe restricted to EVs) and removing the Kathleen Doyle entry test (at least for hackney drivers) would go a long way to satisfying all.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I know a fella wrote to the Minister for money enquiring if you operate your private motor as a rideshare can you offset your costs against other income .IE you register as a rideshare deduct the cost of the car .Fuel ,Insurance operate at a loss on your taxi business so reclaim losses against PAYE tax paid .?

All such deductions would be proportionate to mileage i.e. you must reduce the same to accommodate for private use i.e. if you do zero taxi mileage you may claim/deduct 0%.

Very quiet Friday but much better last night. I'd say tonight will be reasonable for those working.

At least Loe's comments last week allow us a birra breathing space fer a few more years before uber eventually get their Eire rideshare license.

Most on here are too stoopid to see that it is actually temporary Good News fer us !

What are the next euro millions numbers?

It would be different if we were in a boom but we aren't, not needed especially at this time.

Just look at the heat map on BOLT at any expected peak period, you'll think someone threw a bucket of water on it.

Agreed, but at least after Leo's latest comments it is still a ways off.

All the Dub cabbies were out in force trying to build up a war chest for Cheltenham week. Unfortunately, everyone had the same idea.

Today should see the beginning of the uptick.
