Long, Long, Long story made as short as possible.

I upgraded my iphone to a new iphone 11 in March last year with Vodafone.
All was good fer a few months then it was losing internet connection intermittently especially while on FN jobs at drop off points with sumup running in the background.

I complained to Vodafone multiple times and always got the same answer to reset network settings which never worked.

I got a lend of an iphone 7 from a colleague and sent the faulty iphone 11 off fer repair arranged by Vodafone, back it came with exactly the same problems and I repeated that again sending the phone fer repair a second time with the same result.

Eventually Vodafone replaced it with a new iphone 11, and again the exact same problems with the brand new iphone 11. Most thankfully I still had my friends iphone 7 to keep me at work while all this was ongoing.

More eventually (100+ calls later) Vodafone accepted defeat and kindly offered to "let me out of contract" but I refused that offer and insisted on a new phone and compensation.

After some debate I was offered a new iphone 14 and €200 in credit which I haggled up to €300 credit, and he said he was arranging fer the courier dropping off the new iphone 14 to collect the 2 old iphone 11's, I refused to hand over the 2 old iphone 11's stating that all my data was still on them.

A month passed and the nua iphone 14 (on same old 2023 contract) still working perfectly and no word from Langer Dan in Vodafone about wanting the 2 old seemingly faulty iphone 11's back so I gave them both to me small fella.

Both the old iphone 11's were in perfect 'Mint' condition both with box and accessories, and I did a birra research before giving them to my small fella telling him that he might get about €170 each fer them off CEX if he was really lucky.

He eventually got €195 EACH fer the 2 dodgy iphones 11's, and I got a €300 credit note and a new ipnone 14.

That is the very shortened version BUT IT WAS A LONG SLOG.

I think I've narrowed down the problem to 'Android Auto' and the car.  Android Auto (  >:D ) being a Google product wants to be on all the time and suck in all my personal info.  Basically, when you plug an Android phone via USB cable into a computer (or my car as it turns out), the phone asks you if you want to just connect for the charge or do 'data transfer' as well.  Because of my computer habits, I was choosing 'data transfer' when I connected my phone to the car power supply via USB.

And this is when Google's Android operating system and  >:D lost the run of themselves and repeatedly started  >:D without my permission.  Even if I switched  >:D off in the car, it would try and re-connect a few seconds later...

So the solution in my case seems to be:
(a) connect the phone/FN wirelessly with no USB cable but then the battery drains or;
(b) connect via USB and only connect for the charge.  Then  >:D doesn't connect and fuk up the FN connection.

I never liked  >:D before and this just increased my antipathy towards it  >:(  I'd spit on it only I'd be spitting on my own car  ::fight

How do you stop the battery running flat?

Yeah - the phone battery.

Have it connected to a 12v outlet.

I plug my phone into a USB socket.  Not sure if I have a 12V socket.  I think it was the Android Auto & the USB connection that was causing me problems.

@ Watty, I just have my phone connected to a car power source to charge the battery always whilst driving, bluetooth is on but only fer the sumup, not FN.

I had a FN app job this morning from the nest to Glanmire throught the nua Dunkettle roundabout and tapped the phone screen to put on the FN loudspeaker on the phone as Dunkettle is still a bit of a mystery to navigate.

I navigated it and then pressed the screen again to silence the FN app.

Hope this helps....

Ah now you're making sense,connect your phone via the 12v outlet,as I've said,I won't let my phone connect to Android Auto,I discovered that a little bit into ownership,it's connected via Bluetooth for in car calls and for the SumUp terminal.

I'm not the best at IT, but I think I'm kinda understanding ye both ??

My phone is plugged in to the what would be called the old cigarette lighter socket (is that 12V ?) and not the USB charger, I bought a USB cable to cigarette lighter socket thing in Tescos a few years back fer small money.
I know I'm not making sense but I'll send on a few photos if required ?

Summit like this;

Try:
Settings -> Apps -> All Apps -> Android Auto -> Disable

The only other thing that could have helped solve the now apparently resolved issue I was having with the Sumup Terminal connection on my phone nua is keeping it plugged in. I was letting it go almost flat initially 'cos something led me to believe that was better for the non-replaceable battery's life but I've been leaving it in regardless of late using one of these yokes:

If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

My phone says the car gets to decide.  And once the USB cable (with 'Data Transfer' ON) is plugged into the data port, off the car goes and tries to connect.  It's Google really that's to blame for trying to take over every inch of my/our lives with the apps.

I think my best bet is what Shallow Hall suggested.  Go old school and get one of those 12V chargers.  (I checked and I do have a 12V slot.  But no ashtray...)

I got the one in the link above quite recently. Probably at the higher end of the market price wise but it works as a fast charger with my phone nua. If I plug it into the car's USB socket it complains that it's charging slowly and advises using the charger that came with the phone... No charger actually came with the phone but it seems happy enough with the USB sockets I got from Screwfix during COVID '19 when indoors. The car charger also displays the car's battery voltage (not it's wattage as in the photo) which I guess is pretty cool... ifn you like stuff like that.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.
