Renewing a Taxi license in 2024.
« on: April 23, 2024, 11:54:24 am »
I got an email from the NTA on 22nd Jan 2024 to remind me to start my taxi renewal process due on 12th May 2024 and informed me to start immediately as late entrants might not be entertained.

So I rang the NTA to pay me €250 fee and was told by the receptionist that I was too early to start the process ?? and not to send in my documents fer another 2 months as they may get lost by the Gardai ??

However she did agree to take the €250 fee and issued me a printed receipt in the post.

I read and saved Rat Catchers post from last year about renewing;

"When renewing your PSV driving licence, I advise to bring with you, as well as the mandatory items, the "items which may be requested" i.e. passport, and NDLS diving history, because they will be requested.
Driving Licence History statement issued by the National Driving Licence Section (NDLS). You can request same by contacting info@ndls.ie or 076 108 7880
NDLS driving history is available by email from NDLS in approximately 10 days.If your driving licence history has penalty points you will be required to get a letter from your insurance company, on their headed paper, stating that they are aware of the points, and to get this letter you have to email them your NDLS driving history, and they will email you the required letter by return."

Are you sure I posted that, Ken? Reading it now I don't remember a bit of it!
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I applied to the NDLS in January fer my driving license history statement and put it all to bed till Paddys day leaving myself with almost 2 full months to complete the process.

I returned to my task after Paddys day with still no sign of my NDLS driver statement so I applied again this time getting an auto response email to say it may take 10 working days. 10 working days passed and still no sign, so I rang them only to be told that no such query had been recieved, I explaind that I had an auto response and the receptionist had no answer but to say she would put it through again and mark it PRIORITY and I should have it in 5 working days.

5 working days passed and still no sign, and now the clock is starting to count down to 12th May renewal date, rang them again this time using my driver license number rather than my PPS number and eventually I got it the next day on Thurs 18th April.

Yes, defo it was you Stephen, you also added this bit at the end which I did not include above as it was unessacary;
"I was in there this morning, and contrary to an NTA Google search the Carriage Office is not open 9-17, but from 9.30-12.45, and 14.00-16.30. Luckily I had my passport on my phone, and was able to email it to her there and then. I had my printed NDLS history with me, as well as on my phone, and I then emailed my NDLS history to my insurance who will email the required awareness letter, which Louise in the Carriage Office said is acceptable to be sent to her by post."

If that was me I was lying, Ken. I've never been asked for my unblemished driving record by the Carriage Office or NTA.

Anywaysanall, will it still be in date when you submit all the paperwork to the Cork Carriage Office?

It's all a load of nonsense if you're white and Irish by accident of birth, anyway. I know several such drivers who have submitted paperwork to the Dublin Carriage Office clearly proving their incompetence. One such driver had 9, (YES 9) penalty points and was still issued with a brand new SPSV DL. It's a great little country... ifn you're white and Irish by accident of birth!

Friday 19th April I'm suited and booted and heading fer Angelsea street garda station PSV office with all me documents/emails and photos in hand, only to be told; "Sorry the PSV office has been moved out to Ballincollig garda station" (a satelitte town 10km outside Cork).

I rang Ballincollig garda station, no answer, checked their opening times on the net;

Unbelievably they are only open fer 3 hours a day from Sun to Thurs.

No worries, Ken... I knew my memory wasn't that bad... yet!

There's a link to "suggest new hours" if you're unhappy with those already listed.

Not be outdone I was at Ballincollig garda station at supposed 2pm opening time last Sunday and waited outside fer half an hour as it was closed and I left at 2.30pm as it did not open ??

There was a half torn A4 sheet of paper stuck to the garda station door saying for PSV queries contact corkcity.psv@garda.ie

Rang them again this morning after supposed 10am opening time and the call was transferred to district headquarters in Togher where I was told the only way to contact the PSV office was by email which I did.

So now I'm less than 3 weeks shy of renewal date (13 working days) and my application has not even gone in yet !

Are you sure driving licence history is necessary for renewals?

I'm doing me own soon and rang that number above and it says 076 numbers are no longer in service.

I thought the driving history was only for new applications as I didn't have to do it 5 years ago.

I might add that during all this process which I started last January I got no notification of any type from the NTA about driving license history now being required or a change to the address of the Cork PSV garda office.

I have done my level best to stay within the rules as laid out by the NTA but still it's looking unlikely that I will get my Taxi license renewal sorted by 12th May.

Yes I think they are now MFH, I had a lad in the car over Chrimbo who worked in the NDLS office and he confirmed what Bob Schillin stated above in reply no 2.

I'll be doing mine hopefully in the next few days so will let you know fer sure then.
