Taxi fare increase 2024.

In trying to piece together the new expected 9% "Weighted" rise in taxi fares 2024.

(This is what I have managed to come up with, which may or may not be fully correct ??).

Tariff 1 start up rises from 4.20 to 4.60,
The basic running rate rises from 1.30 per km up to 1.32,
After 23.80 is on the meter the rate rises to 1.72 per km, up from the previous 1.65,
Booking fee rises from 2.00 to 3.00.

Tariff 2 start up rises from 4.80 to 5.40,
The basic running rate rises from 1.71 per km up to 1.81,
After 32.00 is on the meter the rate rises to 2.20 per km, up from the previous 2.00,
Booking fee rises from 2.00 to 3.00.

The NTA public consultation process is usually just a showpiece to say that they did it.

I'm not too sure about the 3.00 booking fee thing though, if the 8 seater taxies object to it because the max they can charge in Extras is 9.00 with a 2.00 booking fee and 7 additional pax, then the booking fee increase might fall through the cracks, but most thankfully John m does Not have an 8 seater, but still he might object on their behalf ?

I only read the line I wanted to raed from the link but I'd imagine someone just forgot to amend the maximum extras permissible. That ought to be addressed before programming, I guess.

No, it's not there, but the 8 seater Taxis are currently allowed a 2.00 booking fee and 7 additional passengers to make a maximum of 9.00 in extras, but the new format with a 3.00 booking fee would take that up to 10.00 in extras. Todays meters can only hold four digits in the extras section, as in 9 . 0 0, so if it's a Tenner in extras then there might be problems ??

I wish they just left it as is. There is no need for a rise. All it'll do is make less ppl get taxis.

I only browsed over the Chrimbo rates not seeing that Fri/Sat nights Midnight to 4am are now going to be on Tariff 3.


"Special Rate for Weekend Nights, Christmas & New Year:
To be displayed in the Rate/Tariff Window as 3,
A special rate applies every Saturday and every Sunday from 00.00 hours to 04.00 hours,
and Christmas Eve/St. Stephens Day/New Years Eve."

The new Tariff 3 Weekend rate will seemingly be starting at 5.40, up from 4.80,
and the running rate will be 2.20 per km, up from the previous Chrimbo Tarrif 3 rate of 2.00 per km.

I wish they just left it as is. There is no need for a rise. All it'll do is make less ppl get taxis.

I remember in 1982 when a pint was less than £1 (Irl punt).
Today it is about 6 times that price, and the punters havent stopped drinking it yet !

It's mad that someone in charge thinks more money will put more taxis on the road at night.It has fuk all to do with money IMO.
