I used to think like this as I don't wanna be a greedy fukker but everything is continuing ot increase in price.Our vehicles are a lot more expensive than when I started 14 years ago.My first heap was €1800.The next one was €6000 and now my current one was still nearly 20k after grants.My costs have increased significantly and the public have gotten used to bee driven around in relatively new cars.

The wheelchair lads are paying even more out than the saloon drivers.Someone has to pay for this shiny stuff at the end of the day.Cars aren't getting cheaper anytime soon.

The passengers don't seem to care that an app taxi costs them at least two euro extra.Most of them don't even notice.Way too much money out there.

The old basic night time weekend rate in early 2022 was €1.45 per km, the old night time initial/starting charge was €4.20.

After the next NTA proposal goes through it will be an initial/starting charge of €5.40 and a running night time weekend rate of €2.20 per km (Midnight to 4am Sat/Sun).

I dunno either Belker...money is not the reason lads work nights IMO.They either can't handle the traffic or they have nowhere else they need to be.You can make an ok living on the days.

I think the NTA did major league Screw over the daytime Taxi drivers by adding only pittance to their pot.

As I'm a Night driver myself and indeed as MFH quoted; "can't handle the traffic or they have nowhere else they need to be", the nua proposals suit me down to the ground.

I get that they're trying to incentivise the night shift which is great for night lads who are already working it but more money won't push drivers off the day shift to work nights.

I suspect day drivers benifit from the shit traffic which pushes up the fares a bit more.Maybe that's why we're not getting much extra.
