Very true Jack....I don't even like driving at night anymore,maybe it might encourage some of the day time lads but the "extra" money doesn't matter to me anymore,Mon-Fri and the odd Sun morning for a couple of hours if I'm feeling it is more than enough for me.

How much extra might a night driver make?30 to 50 squid?With all the card payments they'd be lucky to get an extra score a shift after tax.

They will in the country towns, the farmers wont like it at all.

I find the West Cork farmers allright, I had a fella after the Wolfe tones concert the week before last that begged me to bring him home offering a Nifty, I told him that 70 would be closer and he gave me a Ton upfront in cash, got the same fella again last Sat night and himself and his mate threw up a Nifty each.

Are other people's wages increasing as well?

Most people are afraid to ask their employer for an increase in wages in my experience and are on the same wages for years.

Dunno.  Free buses could mean more work?  At the moment, you have a chance of getting a seat, I guess, but imagine getting on a bus in winter jammed with people coughing and sneezing.  Or during the summer with all those smelly feckers.  TAXI!

Also, I think the AA used to say that the buses can only take about 40% of commuters so everyone ditching their cars is a no-go.

On reflection, (Apart from the moaney auld Khouts and those that have already served their time by night), I reckon a decent amount of day drivers will work the nua 'Weekend Tariff 3, Midnight to 4am shift".

The pay gap from 1.32 per km on the day rate up to 2.20 per km on the 'Weekend rate' will defo incentivize more than a few day time taxi drivers to work the Weekend nights.

Which just might be a bad thing fer us current night drivers, on one hand we get a big fare increase, but on the other hand we now have to share it with all the nua Night drivers.

A brilliant ploy by the NTA, the words 'Taxi shortages on weekend nights" will never be heard in the press again, and the moaning (if any) of the exhoribant taxi fare home will be forgotten within weeks.

I could definitely be tempted by that, can't wait. Rate 1 is minimum wage.
