Hale Meters
« on: November 22, 2024, 02:29:13 pm »
Having got my meter programmed on Wednesday and made an appointment for sealing I got this by SMS from Mechanic 24 this morning:

Hi Stephen,

We have noticed that you have recently had your Hale MCT-05 taxi meter updated with the new national Taxi Tariff that is due to become effective from December 1st.

Your specific Model of Taxi meter maybe too old to take the new Tariff as the internal calendar on some of the earliest model Hale MCT-05 will expire on December 31st this year.

IF your meter is the specific older model then, YOU MUST REPLACE YOUR TAXI METER!

The oldest version of MCT-05 Taxi meter will not operate correctly After December.

Do Not get your current Hale taxi meter resealed until you have ascertained exactly which model you have as the older model is effectively redundant.

For any existing customer with a redundant Hale MCT-05, We will offer you a New replacement Mirror Taxi meter and printer for €400 including installation and 2 Years warranty.

Alternatively we will refund your €150 if already paid.

Please contact us at your earliest convenience if this affects you.

The information below will help you confirm which model of Taximeter you have:

The simplest way to identify a MCT-05+ is to have a look at the taximeter's e1-certification mark, which clearly shows "MCT-05+" (see attached pic). This label was usually placed on the back of the taximeter. (The MCT-05+ will operate normally until 31st December 2025)

Another easy way to find out the model version is to check the program/firmware version - on MCT-05 it will be "EU10" or "EU11", ( The MCT-05 with this software is now effectively redundant).

The program version for MCT-05+ is "MEUD3".
Customers can do this themselves by following the steps below (see as well attached scheme):
Press keys 2+3 in For Hire mode --> driver number is displayed -> press key 3 -> test mode is displayed -> press key 4 -> program version is displayed

In MCT-05 (discontinued for many years, no MID approval!) the automatic calendar and correspondingly the tariff will work until December 31st, 2024.
In MCT-05+ and SPT-01 (both taximeter models have been discontinued for quite some years and do not have MID approval!) the automatic calendar and correspondingly the tariff will work until December 31st, 2025.
SPT-02: the automatic calendar works until end of 2045, provided firmware version  G10 PEUD76 is programmed. Attention: SPT-02 is not manufactured anymore. Devices already sold/installed will be supported with repairs and tariff updates until further notice.
MCT-06: the automatic calendar works until end of 2045, provided firmware version G10 MEUD77 2022.09.19 is programmed. This taximeter model is still being produced for the time being.

Could they not have checked that before they reprogrammed your meter?  If memory serves, you've had awful luck with them.  You should ring Joe Duffy or go somewhere else for your taxi needs!

I hated going in there,I find Dave in Robinsons great to deal with and they're actually pleasant to deal with in person and on the phone.
I have a meter update appointment next week.

I rang my local meter reprogrammer last Friday and he told me that the Hale Microtax prior to 2005 was now obsolete.

He said that as my Hale Microtax serial number, which is shown on the front of the meter, shows '07' as the last 2 digits means that it was manafactured in 2007 and is good to go, ..... but I'm guessing good to go fer just another 2 years ??

Thanks fer that Panel, I just looked behind my Hale meter and it states MCT 05+.

No point in me spending €240 fer the change-over if'n the meter only lasts a year.

I owe ya a Pint if'n I ever see you Panel !  Thanks  :2cheers

No hassles Ken, the MCT 05+ meters will only last until 31st of December 2025, so I’m gonna upgrade my blue Peter now as I’ll only get a year out of my meter and will have to install one regardless and it will save the cost of a second meter seal in the space of 12 months

My thoughts exactly, I'll be ringing my meter installer guy today and see what he has to say.

How long do meters last anyway. Mine is nearly 20 years old Aquila T2. All it needs is a button refresh there worn down to the butt I've had to press them with a biro lately.

I got my first Hale meter + roofie thrown in with the 2nd hand Taxi licence in 2010.
Replaced the meter about 4 years ago to a similar model fer about a Deuce as the numbers were fading on the old one.

I too would prefer a dash meter, but the only one my fella has in stock and ready to go is a Fookin Mirror Pox job.
Maybe I will Take to it, but I Fookin doubt it !   ::fds

A lot of the newer cars have nowhere easy to place a regular meter. The mirrors meters are a lot cheaper than they used to be.

I've been through three meters in 15 years. The first Primus one came with my plate but had only a couple of installers. When I bought the Prius there wasn't any decent place to put the old meter so I jumped to the Tetas mirror which after a good few years started to lose the digits on the LCD panel so I just upgraded to the semitron for a few hundred extra when I changed the car.

I like changing the meter often as I have no idea whether they're keeping records of work going back years.Last thing I need is to be hung out to dry by my own meter on money already spent.
