I like having the mirror as the passengers can see it easier. When I had the Primus near the gear stick you'd have people looking in over your shoulder to see the meter wasn't being tempered with.
I Fookin hate Change !
Only had the mirror meter a day now, but it's growing on me...... S L O W L Y !!

....  I paid €620 for the  Turkish Alberen, including the meter and installation. .......

......Have you found any way of disabling the printer?
With my nua Alberan mirror meter and Alberan printer, you just lift the printer cover slightly and it does not print a receipt.

It takes the same size receipt roll as the Hale microtax 5+, Thankfully as I still have a full 50 box.

.....  Yeah the 4 ton is on top of the €150. Asked if he had a MCT06 (priced at €250 on his website https://www.psv.ie/taxi-meter-installers/ ) and was told he has and it's the same price - i.e. €550, that's 3 ton dearer than advertised - as the mirror meter and printer. The mirror one is probably the cheapest on the market but - depending on grants, etc - my next car could be another brand new car that I really wouldn't want to let them at so I'll just get my ton and a half back for the time being and shop around, I guess.
Just a thought Stephen, dunno if'n it will work or not.

Your current Hale MCT05 will work up till 31st Dec 2024.
The fare increase is on 1st December 2024 and the price I paid today was fer the nua meter and the nua fare increase.

BUT if'n you were to buy a new meter after the fare increase on 1st December then it would be rich fer an installer to charge you the €150 fer the now current meter program ??  As all your buying after Dec 1st is the meter with the current program ??

I know you have your reseal date fer 5th Dec but that can easily be rescheduled up to the 2nd or 3rd of Dec.

Chances are the installer has the meters in stock and on the shelf.  So if RC bought a meter in that 30 day window in Dec, he'd be buying off the shelf instead of new from the factory.  And the installer has to buy the access code for each meter off the manufacturer AFAIK.  So probably no saving unless the installer did him a favour?  My guess?
Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

A 50 box of rolls would do me for approximately 50 years or until I'm 104 years old Ken. I can't see you ever having to buy rolls again.

That will probably be the case fer me too even though I do print a receipt fer every customer whom pays using the Sumup terminal.

Peace of mind fer the customer, the receipt used to come out anyway on my old Hale and might aswell offer it as throw it away. That all might change with me meter nua.

I ask them if they want one. When they don't,  which is nearly always I just drive off with my receipt roll intact.

That would also be my nua plan of action, a simple tap on the receipt roll cover to print is by far the easiest soloution.

I know, but I was hardly going to change my meter + do reseal just to stop it printing receipts.
Anyways I'm sorted now, nua meter with nua fare, just Reseal to go on 5th Dec and All Done.

Including the meter seal Ken how much has this update cost you, I’m sure you’ve already worked out how long it will take to wash its face.

€600 fer the Alberen meter + printer + nua fare, and €90 fer the reseal, which should have been €240 fer a regular driver with a proper working meter rather than the Pox Hale.

I have no idea how long it will take to "Wash its face", as what the all new "Golden 8" brings is anyones guess.

I did make a huge blunder yesterday by walking approx 250 meters from the installers yard to the bus stop, I haven't been on a bus in over 15 years, got home, bus stop outside my apartment, waited fer an hour +, then got another bus back and walked another 250 meters to the installers yard. I'm defo not the better today fer those walks yesterday.

Theoretically it'd take me far longer than I'd care to work. However, you can't really blame the meter going obsolete on the fare increase as, in my case, that woulda happened on NYE this year regardless. I wouldn't mind but the fucking thing is barely 25 years old, stuff just isn't built to last anymore.

I'm kinda leaning towards sticking with Mechanic 24 now. The plusses being price, Ken's ability to disable the printer on the same model and there never being much of a queue for updates. I guess I could always visit Korky and Ken for a night on the piss when I eventually change vehicle and get Ken's man to do the changeover... or just buy another new meter from elsewhere, there doesn't seem to be a whole of of difference pricewise between moving an old meter and installing a new one.

If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.
