....  I'm kinda leaning towards sticking with Mechanic 24 now. The plusses being price, Ken's ability to disable the printer on the same model and there never being much of a queue for updates. I guess I could always visit Korky and Ken for a night on the piss when I eventually change vehicle and get Ken's man to do the changeover... or just buy another new meter from elsewhere, there doesn't seem to be a whole of of difference pricewise between moving an old meter and installing a new one.
If you wish the give Eugene Kelly (Cork Radio cabs) a ring fer a price quote, his number is 085 103 8208.

I ask them if they want one. When they don't,  which is nearly always I just drive off with my receipt roll intact.
I'm just off 3 decent night shifts, not a single soul asked fer a receipt. But I did print off 2, one fer a very quiet young lass whom paid her street fare by card, and another fer some drunken idiot who will have no recollection of how he paid or got home, also a street card fare.

....  Including the meter seal Ken how much has this update cost you, I’m sure you’ve already worked out how long it will take to wash its face.
On thinking about this Panel and after seeing last nights 'Golden Eight' figures I gave it some thought.

To confirm I'm a night driver, 99% tariff 2. Always worked the nua 'Golden Eight' hours anyway.
Also FN Ambassador/Gold status/almost always Priority.

I reckon it will 'wash it's face' all by itself to include nua meter + fare upgrade + reseal before Santa arrives in 2024.

To hazard a wild guess fer a Day driver who does not work the sabbath and also requires a nua meter then it might take till at least the summer equinox to 'wash it's face', it might even be till Santa calls again in 2025.

Rescheduled the meter seal appointment for 22nd Jan.

Do you have to cancel and book again when you get a new TTI form i.e. is the appointment specific to the TTI form?
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I dunno that, I'll be ringing them myself tomorrow (Mon) to make sure they have my nua TTI form fer my reseal appointment next Thursday, which was booked with my old TTI form last October.

I expect no worries, but if any I can reschedule fer Free on Monday.
I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow.

Anyone know if they are open to facilitating LRA, and meter verification on the same day? This year I only have a window of Jan 15-Jan 29 for my LRA as I go away on the 3oth. Rang a while back, and he said that here should be no problem of getting an LRA appointment between those dates, butdon't know about combining the 2 inspections.verifications.

21 Jan was the earliest date for meter sealing in Northpoint when I rescheduled mine earlier today.

There never seems to be much of a delay for the LRA. I still have to book mine but it'll be done before my new meter sealing appointment.

Maybe check Greenhills for meter sealing availability and if you find a suitable appointment book that online and then ring the LRA booking line and see what they can do?

I cant remember which way around but I did book reseal and suitability on the same day a few years back, one was done online and the other over the phone, but in Cork they are both done in the same premises, but I defo did do it and the 2 tests were done one after the other, by the same inspector just a few minutes apart.
Sorry to hear that you have to 'Go away' Harry, what did you get Sent Down fer ?   lol

Just taking a few months holidays Ken, at 71 it's time to start thinking about how to spend whatever time is left to one, be it a day, or 20 years.

Did ya buy a new meter or get your microtax 05 updated with the new meter?

I want to hear your rationale for updating and sealing a meter that you’ll only get another 12 months out of.

Interesting question and one that I did ponder to some extent.

As far as my MCT5 is concerned another year isn't an option as it's the older one that expires at the end of this year.

I did consider scrounging a MCT5+ off someone (probably Ken!) and getting a year out of it, the rationale being that my car is only good until early 2026 but I decided against 'cos that would ultimately force me to change the car before the end of 2025.

If I coulda got a MCT6 at the advertised price of €250 I woulda done that but Mechanic24 looking for an additional €300 is, frankly, taking the piss.

Anyway, I haven't done anything yet... bar pushing the sealing appointment back. I've got till the end of the year to get a meter sorted!

Once I heard the news that my Hale microtax 05+ was Gone in a year, I never hesitatated in Fooking it out.

Fer me, No point in me waisting €150 on the meter update, €90 on the Reseal + 2 appointments.

In a years time I would need a new upgraded meter + a €90 Reseal and 2 more appointments.
