The young lady from Applus+++ who rang me said an appointment is now, strictly speaking, required. When I rang back to make one the chap couldn't do it because I don't know what my CCSN is and it's not on the licence they issued. He was supposed to email it to me but that hasn't happened yet.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Just turn up, it's a 2 or 3 minute job.

And know your CCSN, it should be on any recent email sent to you personally from the NTA.

I called into the office in Ballymun yesterday after getting my meter nua sealed without any appointment. He had the stickers already printed, ready and waiting. No CCSN required. Panic over!

I picked up a couple of new fare cards while I was there. The visor stickers have been discontinued.

I still have one, laminated anall. I thought it was up to date until the latest fare review If I remember I'll check next time I'm in the car.

It's on the opposite side of the visor to the mirror and on the passenger side of the car. Also its affixed with a rubber band so could be moved or even removed dynamically.

They pull the visor down. The rubber band is positioned beside the mirror so it's not impeded in any way.

Not as many as there used to be when we had proper fare cards. The odd time folk do enquire I'm not much help. I used to know what the rate per furlong was and the speed at which the rate switched between time and yards, probably 'cos it was all there in black and yella - and we didn't need those €250 ID cards either, a photo chewing gummed to the fare card done the trick.

These days all I can offer by way of explanation is that I just press the buttons and I'm doing well to remember the sequence. In fact I'm doing well to remember that my meter's not on the dashboard anymore if truth be known! Beyond that, I can only advise that the taxi firms set their own fares with some (e.g. Free Now) being significantly more expensive than others (e.g. Lynk, Bolt, Uber) so what's on the meter is just what I get paid (less commission), not what the actual fare charged might be.

I guess it's no coincidence that Free Now directs much of it's lobbying to slagging off those of us who sat the Garda Siochana entry test all those years ago. Admittedly it (thankfully) was virtually impossible to fail but there were questions on the fare structure when I sat it up above in Harcourt St... although more than one lad put up their hand to ask the invigilator for the answers and were given them albeit in a mildly educative leading sort of way!

Those rubber bands annoyed me as they disintergrated after a few months leaving the fare card flopping.  ::fds

I still have a few old ones in my motor folder as my OCD does not allow me to throw anything out.
