€140 is hardly worth claiming on insurance... as an EV man a tyre would cost him more than that FFS.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

If it's really only 140 to fix it's probably just something they were going to clip or glue back together. All the new cars are usually assembled by push fittings at the assembly line for speed and lower labour costs.

His insurance might have an excess bigger than 140 anyway.Good result overall.

NO it was stolen from the driveway of the house .Then internal damage they ripped out the forward facing camera and the internal lighting unit and mirror meter .So two units to be replaced ,possible new windscreen as the front facing camera /collision warning unit is glued to the windscreen .No external damage to vehicle .MG say they do not do crash repairs for insurance purposes so the driver will have to pony up front and TRY claim it back from insurance .So he is now waiting on Insurance to send out their assessor and direct him to THEIR preferred repairer .It seems that like Watty informed us spare parts are difficult to come by as there are no central distributors they need to be sourced direct from China .Probably find as they are made in China that spurious Parts and Genuine parts are exactly the same and come from the same source effectively meaning no cheaper Spurious parts are actually available .

if you contact insurance to do repairs will they not use it as an excuse to balloon up what you'll pay going forward.

As usual you couldn't be wronger, erm!

Main stealers aren't so called without justification. VAG, for example, typically charge 3-4 times the prices charged by motor factors such as autodoc.ie for the same parts from the same manufacturer.

He's doing the right thing anyway. Get the estimate from the insurance company's approved repairer and take it from there. He can then let them repair it and they'll get paid directly or he can get the used notes and sort it out himself, most likely trousering a few notes (albeit notes they'll get back through "loading") into the bargain.

Armed with the estimate he's already bought from MG he could sit down with a computer and put the part numbers into a popular internet search engine to find out what alternative, perhaps quicker, suppliers are out there and/or shop for second hand parts ... To get him started here's a few links from a popular internet auction website and a breakers yard up above in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Norn Iron.

If you clicked the first link I posted above you'll have noticed that the camera unit has a MG (SAIC) part number and a Bosch part number. I would hazard a guess that the same Bosch part minus the SAIC sticker could be purchased significantly cheaper than MG charge with their sticker applied.

Anyway, his issue is primarily time rather than money hence scrapyards including those on the mainland and up above in Norn Iron may well be his best option.

Also, given that he's an EV man he may well subscribe to the tree hugging, sandal wearing, muesli munching ethos that would consider the environmental benefits attained by recycling stuff which is, perhaps, another good reason to shop in scrapyards.
