They might be when they get older... it's all part of the tapestry of life that turned them into professionals.

came across this photo of a taxi rank in ballymun.
taxis parked on it but also normal cars with just taxi in the window.
any ideas.

We, in Checkers, used to run rings around the cosies parked up there.

Workin for bus fares... yisser were never gonna be idle... Did you have a plate rented out for a bag a month like most of them hackneymen?
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

The old taxi plate was what became the original hackney plate (on or after regulation in 1978) i.e. a small oval shaped plate fixed to the rear of the vehicle. Roof signs were optional back then.
We hacks in Checkers were finally given a metal oval badge  fixed to the car, mine was 21413.

We all had ping pong balls on our whips. Aah, dem's was days Jem!! 8)

Some things never change.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Ah, that's so cute.  Warms my heart to see the elderly reminisce about the last century  lol
Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

Uber has already figured that one out.

How much were you getting in rent for your taxi plate to supplement the bus fares you were charging riders?

I wasn't renting a plate, and I wasn't charging bus fares. Thank you for your interest in this matter.

Less than bus fares working for Checkers.
