It'll be interesting to see how many WAV grants go to fleet operators now that grants aren't limited to one per individual/entity, particularly with NTA/TAC actively recruiting drivers for the Ebbseseseses et al.

70 odd plated in March, perhaps reflecting NTAs recruitment drive and/or availability of grant aid under WAV18. The Ebbseseseses WA fleet continues to grow, hitting the big 40 at the end oF the month.

I think they're UK imports. Shut ins over there get grants for vans so upgrade quite frequently. The existence of a vibrant second hand market on the mainland was one of the reasons NTA gave for lowering the WA criteria.

I suppose it saves the Brits having to consign them to the Crusher.

c.80 new plate licences issued in April. Around a quarter of those were issued to fleets with the Ebbseses, the Geraghtieseses (Jason, Anthony and Auto Class Hire Ltd), NRC Fleet Rentals Ltd and Charles Robinson all taking on more plates. The majority of non fleet plates were issued to immigrants.

I hope the new lads are taking note.Between Mytaxi assisting drivers pass the simplified taxi test with financial incentives and the renters putting new vehicles on the road the good times are bound to come to an end.

Kind of makes ya wonder why lads would put their logos all over their cabs. We're pretty much digging our own graves by supporting them. It's a pity the other forum closed before we got a chance to bump the old threads to remind the new drivers how shit it was eight years ago.

He told the media he'd  have 180 by the end of the year, erm. he's only 1/4 of the way there so far.

Sure wasn't Ebbs launching in New York too a few years ago...even though he couldn't get his Dublin work covered.

Something else we forget is that every rental needs to earn at least twice what owner drivers need to stay afloat. So 100 drivers like Vandriver is the same as 250/300 old timers pottering away.We won't see a difference immediately but it will happen.

Its also worth mentioning you could get a rental including insurance for 150 a week during the recession. That's not far off what owner drivers are paying out to keep their vehicles up to date with insurance right now.We might think we're better off but the numbers don't tell the full story.

How many of the wavs with new licenses will just replace saloon licenses, though?
Are you sure that there is going to be much of a net increase in the taxi fleet?

We won't know until the end of the year when the easier test has been accounted for.Anyway don't be surprised if they keep making it easier.I'm not committing any more dosh to this industry until I see which way things are going.

We have unions in bed with the despatchers who are leaning on the NTA to bring in more drivers.
