Those lads in suitability have gotten very fussy lately..last renewal they warned me about an EN3 logo that was almost worn off on my fire extinguisher.Now I'll have to buy another perfectly functioning fire extinguisher just to pass.The fukkin thing has been bouncing around the boot for the last 8 years unused why wouldn't the print have worn off.

Just thinking I wonder how much extra fuel I've burned carrying the safety kit around for 8 uneventful years.It's probably hundreds maybe even tens of liters of fuel.Considering car manufacturers have opted to delete the spare tyres on most new cars for efficiency.NTA wankers.

Can you get the meter sealed before the new rate kicks in ?

NO !

Yes. Centres  can test and seal newly programmed meters BEFORE new rate kicks in.

On reflection, then I would agree with Bubba, once your meter has been recalibrated to
the new fare structure, then you could have a reseal done before the new rate kicks in.

Bubba is 100% right in what he sez, but unless the timing of the reseal is an issue,
then maybe best to leave it off until after the meter updates.

Recalibrations/Updates are not a perfect science and not 100% guaranteed to go
exactly as planned, as most of us found out with the last fare increase/update.

The last update happened exactly as it was supposed to happen. The various programs terminated as they were set up to do. Metrology issue a term licence/program to the installers.

Maybe so Bubba, but I do remember ringing my taxi meter installer, Not the NTA fella that reprogrammed
the meter, as there was no answer there and then Asking/Begging my local guy how to get it going ?

NTA don`t write the programs, NSAI Legal Metrology  do. If you remember, I flagged this on Roy`s in 2011 , months before it happened. As usual, no one took notice. Digitax program was due to run out March 2018, so either way I was getting reprogrammed next year. Other programs were due to run out next year also. All programs have a 5 year (roughly) lifespan . Leaving reprogram until AFTER the update becomes legal is no advantage to anyone.

Ken do you have a taxitronic meter .the last update for that meter was corrupted and had to be reinstalled, my installer had a day when the legal met men were in his place resealing the meter after he uploaded the amended program if you had already had the meter sealed .

Never had any problems with updates, always advance programmed... 17 year old Hale Microtax 5 (South Dublin Autos / psv.ie).

Yes. The model is still sold to this day, almost... the current one is 5+... and it was capable of running the 3 increments back when we had rates A B and C - unlike the pieces of shite Joe Herron flogged in later years.

I have the same or similar old Hale meter as Rats, when the last fare increase update came in a few years back, my meter did not work properly and I had to ring my local meter guy (not NTA) and he gave me a code over the phone to get the meter going.
