Was it Watergate where they said it wasn't the crime that did for Nixon, it was the cover-up?

Crucial question is whether the TD's, esp the Independents, have enough service to get their big, fat, juicy pensions?

Tánaiste acknowledges 2015 email
21 Nov 2017 23:11

Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald has told the Dáil that she was told by her department last Thursday that they had located an email in relation to the legal strategy of the former garda commissioner, which was sent to her on 15 May 2015.
She also told the house that the Taoiseach had spoken to Sergeant McCabe by telephone this evening in the last two hours and 'had a conversation with him about some of the issues in the email'.
Tánaiste: 'neither I nor the Department of Justice had any hand, act or part in the legal strategy of the former commissioner' pic.twitter.com/crg1E0DsEl
She said the email - which was circulated to members of the Dáil this evening - highlighted a disagreement that had arisen between the legal teams at the Commission representing Sgt McCabe and former garda commissioner Nóirín O'Sullivan.
She said the email indicated that counsel for An Garda Síochána has raised an allegation of a serious criminal complaint against Sgt McCabe, which had previously been made.
Ms Fitzgerald said the email stated that Sgt McCabe had always denied this.
The email released this evening in the #dail @rtenews pic.twitter.com/VLjU2h6DBa
The email said that counsel for Sgt McCabe objected to this issue being raised and asked if the Garda Commissioner had authorised this approach.
Ms O'Sullivan's authoritisation was confirmed in the email, although this was understood to be subject to further legal advice.
Ms Fitzgerald said this matter was already on the public record from the opening of the Disclosure's Tribunal.
She said the concluding point in the email advised that the Minister had no function and she said she could have no role in questioning the evidence given by a third party.
Ms Fitzgerald also insisted that she had no hand, act or part in the legal strategy against Sgt McCabe.
She added that said she learned of the details that emerged in May 2016, which emerged from leaked transcripts.

The Latin word Alibi, I was elsewhere, springs to mind. Leo seems always to have one....attending gay parades is a clever alibi indeed.

Leo wasent by her side last night ,lets see if SF put down a motion of no confidence in Fran if they do then the government have two choices let the vote proceed and trow her ovrboard or what is normal they reject the motion of no confidence and replace it with their own motion of confidence in her but to put the gun to FF heads they might instead of putting a motion in favour of Fran down for a vote FG might put down a vote of confidence in the entire government this would force a general election if FF dont abstain or vote confidence ,

You didn't specify any time limit in this thread. 150/1 seems fair for 2017.

SF doing the maths deciding if they will put down a motion of no confidence in Fran they have until 4.30 this afternoon to try to get a motion debated and enough time if the government falls for an election before christmas .Mary Lou had a great observation this morning that the e mail was actually sent before the case started not after it started .The big issue I think for SF is can they get into government in the republic to counterbalance the DUP in the UK ,If they think the answer is yes then they will go for it .

The SF heirs apparent haven't got what it takes to counter the Brits or their lapdogs, the DUP. Surprised Pearse has ruled himself out of the race all the same. He's a very capable and competent man. Maybe he knew it would be unwise to try going against the grain whereby having a pair of baps and subscribing to Hello! magazine are mandatory to running every organisation.

Doing some back of the envelope stuff .All the independent alliance TDS should lose their seats .PBFP WILL LOSE AT LEAST 2 joan collins and geno labour no gain possibly BURTON wont stand .so the math is simple if SF can get between 18 and 28 TDs they are guarenteed to be in government .IF they think they can get that many they will push Fran in the hope FF backs them and if they do then the supply and confidence is broken as FF will have voted against a government minister .Its now a numbers game has nothing to do with FRAN .
