There's worse ways to earn a crust. There's not many unskilled jobs that let you come and go as you please with no responsibility, no physical effort, etc. However, I was being philosophical. Without referencing any particular trade/profession/vocation what makes any job "decent"... I would put enjoying what you do pretty high up the list, what that is will vary from person to person.
I think a lot of parents rate a job that they imagine will impress their neighbours/peers above their kids doing something they enjoy. Of course, in reality, your neighbours/peers don't give a flying fuck. It's a bit like your holiday snaps. You and your spouse are the only ones who find your kids doing this, that or the other to be cute. Those you subject to the slideshow would much rather see them on Facebook later when they'll really enjoy them... honest!
