Calm your jets - those 1600 will have to get through vetting first...  https://www.nationaltransport.ie/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/SPSV_Industry_Update_Issue_40_February_2018.pdf

Quote
NTA  has  been  in  contact with  An  Garda Síochána following an  upward trend  in  calls  to  the  Industry Information Line about SPSV Driver Licence renewal turnaround times. An Garda Síochána has advised
that it is currently experiencing a particularly large volume of both applications and renewals throughout the country but principally in the Dublin Carriage Office

NTA might be hedging their bets.  A huge portion of the fleet are driving vehicles aged 10yrs and older.   Plus, a lot of the official complaints are now about drivers and the 'suitability' test won't solve that.  Might be time to retire the older drivers and older vehicles and get in new customer-friendly drivers and vehicles (e.g. electric & WATS)?
- If we don't upgrade, they'll open the floodgates to new drivers to rent from the MPO's.  Much easier to deal with 100 MPO's than 20,000 drivers?
- If we do upgrade, they could change their mind (like they did with the 3yr rule for new entrants and their vehicles) & stop new entrants.

Taxi drivers protesting against the College Green partial ban between 7am and 10am have threatened further action if the decision is not reversed. This morning's protest was very well attended with up to 60 full-time drivers representing the combined membership of all of the national and local unions.

Shouldn't that read "WELL GO ON STRIKE...then." 8)

None of that makes sense.Serves me right for responding to yer shite.

Merc read this carefully and see if this is your definition of rideshare ....The Minister has asked the National Transport Authority (NTA) to assess the roll-out of community car services and the level of demand for such a scheme to be developed. Local volunteers would use their own car to help individuals who have difficulty accessing forms of transport but could receive some financial payment.

The Department of Transport has also contacted Insurance Ireland to assess the likely cost of insurance for a publican to drive patrons home.

Ken nobody will support this nonsence bt TTna H there is a bigger detour for drivers in Dublin that they never had any issue with ... Funny how this is an issue but 1600 new drivers being recruit into the industry dosent seem to matter even though there are no vehicles for them to drive .There was no protest when they made the New Nutts one way preventing drivers from turning if they had a job going east now they have to pick up on the Nutts drive over the cobbles turn left back up to Cufe Street on to Stephens green South then turn left and possibly left again to get on to Dawson Street then right and left onto Nassau Street and off you go unless you turned left onto Merrion Row .either way no mention of this detour fromthe Reps .Hard to know what actually constitutes a detour in Repworld .

Lads know what this is about .The lads out in the airport are upset because of this College detour which might cost them an extra 10 minutes to return to the mothership multiply that by 6 jobs a day they are down an hour working time .

To be fair, they only changed their mind to stop issuing saloon plates. No plates being issued is better than plates being issued for 3YO cars from our perspective.

All approved by the so-called drivers' representatives on TAC. One, Joe Heron, even went to the media to report that 20,000 drivers have left the trade because they got better jobs. How much do you reckon the dispatchers put in his phoca for that one?

well I don't know if Joe heron made such a statement or not, but there is certainly no evidence of that many drivers having left the insustry,  because what's left would STILL cut your fucking throat to get passed you in case there's a fare up ahead

is it not the case that John Udder (rip) refused to allow a few more plates into the game, and the response of the powers that be was to open the floor gates ? at least that's what I have been told

Almost... well, not quite. John agreed to Bertie's Forum which was a structured approach to issuing WA plates to cosies. However, Minister Molloy then announced his intention to double the number of plates by issuing an additional plate to the holder of each plate then in issue. The filthy, stinking hackney men took exception to that so challenged the decision in court in what became known as the deregulation case. The rest is history.
