That post was already commented on ,bit ill ask once again .The NTA are looking to recruit drivers in Kildare .WHY ?What will they drive in Kildare as there are no Saloon Plates being issued .Is there a shortage of WAts in Kildare is there a demand for them or will the NTA discover a demand for local volunteers to use their own cars (RIDESHARE ) for reward .

Minister Ross has directed the NTA to investigate if there is a demand for such a service .We know from a coincidentially recent article in National newspapers that licenced taxi drivers were willing to do local 5euro jobs in Doneygall .So it is abvious if licenced taxi drivers feel that a 5er is ample for running around small rural towns and villages that the NTA ,Minister will legislate for such a service .Minister Shane Ross TD has previously stated that he would not allow unlicenced DRIVERS carry passengers for reward .The ECJ simply said that Rideshare or UBER like Services must be regulated as it was a taxi service so making it a requirement that ALL service Providers in the industry must hold a SPSV would constitute regulatory compliance ,Solve the problem of lack of transport in rural towns and villages at peak time while seemingly protecting full licenced taxi drivers as they could operate 24/7 .Dont be surprised if one of two things happen as a result of issuing of SPSVdrivers licences .The moritorium on saloon plate licences is removed or RIDESHARE allowing people use their private vehicle as long as they hold a PSV licence to carry passengers for reward .UBER did not lose their ECJ as some of you believe they actually won clarity when the court ruled they were a company operating in the taxi space as should be regulated or if I remember the actual term was MUST be regulated .The interesting word MUST in the text being an instruction to National taxi legislators that they MUST not MAY be regulated .

So the question is Why are the NTA trying to be area spacific when recruiting drivers if there are no vehicles available for those newly qualified drivers to drive in that area .

There is an Advert on Irish Jobs for people from Kildare to take the taxi test for Kildare .Im sure the NTA will give you the course free as they want to recruit .So if they are offering the test free can existing licence holders apply for a Ke licence and will they pay for the test and help me learn the routes .It would make more sense fot the NTA to encourage existing drivers who actually have vehicles to drive to learn new geographical areas so they can supply a service than train 1600 new drivers who will have nothing to drive unless the moritorium on plates is removed .!

this as is completely misleading.
it gives the distinct impression to any potential applicant that they are going to be EMPLOYED directly by the NTA.
it seems the NTA are now going down the same road as the scumbag radio companies believing they are your employers

Here is a line from the qualifications needed that explains it all .(Have a flexible approach to hours of work, serving passengers at peak times to enable the best returns for themselves,)PEAK TIMES since when can the NTA instruct drivers when they can work ? So the likes of Mytaxi say to the NTA we cannot cover PEAK TIME work as there are not enough drivers (willing to crawl through traffic and pay 12% commission ) Its time to wake up to whats going on here .1600 new licences being issued for drivers but no extra vehicle licences .Remember a psv licence allows you drive more than a taxi and might even include Rideshare ,

Nah Erm I'd say it's more likely that the Kildare test is particularly tough.Big area.Think about it Intel, Hewlett Packard,Kerry Foods, K club and many more big companies out there.I bet Vinny and co has some big accounts too.Anytime I'm ever out in Maynooth there's usually only one car at most on the Mytaxi app.Too much dead mileage I don't like it out there at all.

Merc here is my take .We are going to get Rideshare or as the NTA refere to it UBER type services .The drivers will be licences that way the taxithingey can say it is regulated in line with other carry for reward services meeting the ECJ requirements .If the NTA can provide cheap rural transport by using private citizens and their cars that solves some rural transport provision .We keep loking at this from a Dublin angel .With rent a bike ,luas ,Dart ,Go Car and the proposed 24 hour bus services to be introduced Dublin is well served for taxies .I think the 1600 licences is more to do with rural transport needs and not Dublin. As Step use to say rural drivers dont use the meter the locals wont pay so if that is the case then some rural drivers will change from using their plate and become ridesharers save on compliance probably insurance and no nine year rule they might also rent their plates to drivers who want to operate in the City and make an extra few quid thay way .I am certain that rideshare or UBER like services will be introduced toIreland its just a matter of when .A lot of people read the review where the Minister said he wanted every driver aligned to a dispatcher the NTA might even look for a dispatcher to align all the rideshares with as the ECJ judgement said they MUST be regulated .Dont be surprized if Mytaxi,UBER .and other dispatchers have been knocking on Minister Rosses door demanding that he MUST regulate in line with the ECJ judgemant and this is the NEW Services being refered to by Mytaxi .

You're the only taxi driver mentioning Uber Ermy.We should be more concerned about them easing the test.Too many other balding fatsos is the biggest threat to our income. The 1600 extra will barely cover the lads leaving the business in the next few years from retirement, old age and the ten year rule.1600 is just the beginning unfortunately.

Unfortunatly Merc I am not the only one mentioning UBER .The minister has instructed the NTA to explore if there is any demand for SocialCars ie private citizens being allowed to pick up and drop off in rural ireland for reward .That is the MINISTERS direction not just a figment of my imagination .If I was a rural taxi driver operating in down the country little town just off the motorway and had the option of driving my existing 5er a go clients in my personalcar and not the more expensive taxi I would change over and rent my taxi to somebody in Dublin for a few ton a week probably one of the lads who just passed the test .

The test was tough when it was being utilised as an artificial barrier to entry. Now that TAC/NTA are actively recruiting drivers I'd say an illiterate monkey would pass with flying colours.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Before dereg PSV licence holders complained they  had no access as qualified persons to taxi licences What do you think will happen when 1600 qualified persons complain they have no access unless they want to drive one of those polluting non fuel efficient WATs .Wont be long before liberal Td for middle class constituency where Orlath and Grizzelda use taxies to go to Cafe En Sein is knocking on Minister Rosses door demanding changes to the Moritorium and if you happen to be Grizzeldas or Orlaths locam Member of the Dail im sure you will look after your middle class voters by making sure they have lots of taxies so they can go have lots of fun and some of the plebs in your constituency might even find work as a cabie .Horrah for Shano he solved the problem.

From the advertisement:

The ideal candidate shall have pride is being an Ambassador for Ireland as a taxi driver is often the first contact a tourist has here - suggests that DAA will facilitate these candidates?

Principal duties - Must operate a roadworthy vehicle, clean and attractive inside and out – whether rented or owned. - no mention of any accessibility requirements or age restrictions.

Pay attention to the wording in the last sentence VEHICLE not LICENCED TAXI ? Will Mytaxi have a fleet of hacks and distribute taxi hails to them ?
