MORE HURT Evil Michael ‘Mad Dog’ McDonagh who butchered wife Jacqueline at their home makes early bid for freedom

ONE of Ireland’s most barbaric wife killers has made an early bid for freedom, we can reveal.

Evil Michael ‘Mad Dog’ McDonagh — who butchered his wife Jacqueline at their home on August 29, 2012 — has caused more trauma to his victim’s family by applying for parole.

Psycho McDonagh — a former bare-knuckle boxer who has piled on the pounds during his time behind bars — is convinced he should be released.

His victim’s heartbroken relatives have now had to write a letter to the Parole Board outlining their objections.

A prison source said: “McDonagh has the option of parole before new legislation is introduced and has decided to make an application.

“He knows the hurt this will cause to his wife’s family and yet he’s still progressing with it.

“He’s a very arrogant man and only cares about himself. There’s no way he’s a changed man in the years he’s been in prison and he’s only doing this because he has struggled to accept his punishment.”

Ex-Detective Inspector Pat Marry, who convicted the beast, said he “should never see the light of day”

He said: “He should spend a minimum of 25 years in prison for what he did.

“He is without question one of the most evil and barbaric killers I have ever seen. It was the most battered body I had ever seen.

"She received a horrendous beating from the father of her children. You could feel the hate directed towards her.”

Scammers posing as tradesmen targeting elderly residents in north Dublin

The conmen were most recently reported to have been calling to homes offering roof repairs

By Mark O'Brien
09:36, 25 JAN 2020

Residents in a number of north Dublin suburbs are being warned about scammers posing as tradesmen who are targeting elderly homeowners.

The callous conmen are believed to be calling to homes in Marino, Fairview and Clontarf offering roof repair and were most recently reported calling to homes in the Shelmartin Avenue area.

The Marino/Fairview Neighbourhood Watch group took to social media to warn residents about the scam after they were contacting by a community garda from Clontarf station.

They said: "It is understood that these bogus callers seem to be specifically targeting older home owners. (Most recently Shelmartin Avenue, cold calling offering roof repair).

"If you have ANY reason to doubt their legitimacy, respond with a firm 'no thank you' and close the door.

"Report the caller to the Gardaí immediately on 016664800. Where possible, try and record the registration/colour/markings of their vehicle/most recent location and remember, we’re ALWAYS happy to share CCTV and/or dashcam footage."

The group also urged locals to keep an eye out for their elderly neighbours.

They also offered a number of tips to help confirm a cold caller is genuine, including:

Get as much information as possible from them, such as VAT and company registration details etc.

Get a quote in writing, NEVER pay any cash up front.

Carry out a simple internet search to find out if a business is legitimate or not. Fake websites can also be created, so make sure the company has a full address that can be checked with an Eircode. (Some fake business just name a business park but no unit number in the business park).

Letting people into your house should be avoided and if you’re unsure, elderly or on your own, ask a friend or family member’s opinion before agreeing to any type of work being carried out.

Cassie McDonagh, 19, St Mary’s Park, Dunsink Lane, Finglas, Dublin 11 was left facing hefty legal bills after she sued Lidl Ireland for damages for personal injuries as well as inconvenience and expenses she suffered.

Good enough for the cunt

She claimed the store was negligent and failed to have regard for her safety.

However, her civil action at Dublin District Court was dismissed by Judge John Brennan who was shown CCTV footage of her returning to the spillage a number of times before she fell.

McDonagh claimed she slipped at the supermarket in Glasnevin in Dublin on August 10, 2016 because of the liquid on the floor near refrigerators and suffered back pain.

She was then aged 16.

A medical report stated she had lower back pain for three to four months after the fall and had intermittent back pain since. She made a full recovery, the court heard.

CCTV footage was shown and she was cross-examined by Lidl's barrister Fred Gilligan.

She agreed she did not tell the doctor she had been in two previous road traffic accidents over the previous nine-month period.

In the video evidence she was shown entering the store at about 6.45pm. She appeared to walk past the spill but after speaking to another person she looked back towards it before she returned.

She appeared to say something to another girl about the liquid on the floor.

On the third time she walked over it and slipped, the court heard.

Questioned by counsel, she could not explain why she went back toward the spillage.

The case was fully contested by Lidl which had offered her a chance to drop the action but she refused.

Dismissing the case, Judge Brennan noted she had walked past the spillage on a number of occasions prior to the accident and he held she had to have seen it. Costs were awarded to Lidl.

Traveller gang boss ‘behind shooting attempt’ that saw shots fired at two unarmed gardai

By Ali Bracken -31/01/2020

Detectives believe that a Traveller gang boss was behind an attempted assassination in Wexford on Wednesday, in which a gunman fired at two unarmed gardai.

No arrests have yet been made. On Wednesday, gardai sent out an urgent statement looking for the gunman, while officials were shepherding Leo Varadkar to New Ross to open Ireland’s longest bridge with Rose Kennedy Townsend, a granddaughter of Bobby Kennedy.

Well-placed sources said last night that local criminals in Wexford are believed to have been ‘hired’ to assassinate another member of the Travelling community.

The target of the thwarted murder, in Gorey, Co. Wexford, is a Traveller well known to gardai and the local community.

He is part of a criminal gang ‘who are notorious for burglaries nationwide’. It is also understood that a BMW car used in the attack and later found burnt out, was purchased in Tallaght in Dublin, and later falsely registered in Tallaght to a non-existent person.

A senior source said last night: ‘Investigations are at an early stage. But it is believed that the target was a Traveller, and the man who ordered it was from the same ethnic background.

‘A major line of investigation is that local criminals were hired to carry out the hit. There is evidence that the BMW used was genuinely bought in Tallaght but then falsely registered to a non-existent person.’

A gunman was lying in wait in a field at the Craanford road, Gorey Hill, in the west of Gorey town when gardai received a call from a member of the public who had spotted a man acting suspiciously.

When gardai investigated, a man fled from the field into a waiting blue BMW that was driven erratically and dangerously on the road from Gorey to Carnew.

When the gardai gave chase, the driver, who wore a hat and had a mask over his face, fired two shots at them. No one was injured and the car was later burnt out.

A Garda manhunt remained underway last night.

In response to the shooting, Mr Varadkar said on Wednesday: ‘I think everyone in the country is worried about the spate of violence and violent crime that we’ve witnessed the last couple of weeks, in various parts of the country.’

The Taoiseach said in Wexford that he was monitoring events following the shooting and said that the Government was committing more gardaí on the streets to deal with the gangland problem.

The men involved were believed to be travelling in a black or dark grey Skoda Fabia, but gardaí warned the public not to approach them but to dial 999.

In a statement, gardaí said that on their arrival in Gorey, ‘gardaí encountered a male who pointed a handgun in their direction and threatened them’ before fleeing in a blue BMW 318, registration 06 W 1012.

The driver slowed down the BMW and ‘discharged shots from a handgun at pursuing unarmed uniformed gardai’.

Notorious criminal out on bail arrested after high speed garda chase on M50

By John Murphy -01/02/2020

A notorious criminal out on bail for a separate alleged offence was last night in custody following a high-speed Garda chase on the M50, Extra.ie can reveal.

The incident follows a spate of burglaries in Blackrock, Co. Dublin, on the same night.

Two teens and the 23-year-old chief suspect were arrested after a chase involving a large number of Garda motorbikes and cars.

One garda was taken to hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged. The criminal, understood to be out on bail over an attack at a house in Mayo last year, was among three young males in custody last night following the high-speed chase.

They are suspected of carrying out three burglaries in Blackrock on Thursday evening. The same gang are suspected of being behind ‘up to 20’ break-ins in south Dublin, mainly in Dún Laoghaire and Dundrum, within the past fortnight.

The same ‘highly organised’ gang are also suspected of a break-in at the home of a model in Portmarnock, Dublin, on January 9, senior sources reveal.

In that incident, Eve Ryan, 24, said the raiders threw bleach on her before locking her in a bathroom for 20 hours while they robbed the home.

No arrests have been made in the Portmarnock case.

During the motorway pursuit on Thursday night, the criminals are alleged to have thrown ‘€10,000 worth of jewellery out the car window’, sources say. These jewels were later recovered by investigators on the roadway.

Three members of the four-person gang were last night being quizzed over three break-ins in Blackrock.

The chief suspect, along with his two teenage associates in custody, form part of one of the most seriously organised burglary gangs in operation in Ireland. The Traveller gang is based in Tallaght, south Dublin.

The chief suspect is listed as a major target under Operation Thor, the Garda project to shut down burglary gangs.

The car used by the gang – a high-powered BMW – was stolen from the UK, gardai said in a statement. It was found abandoned following the pursuit. Just one member of the four-person gang remains at large.

The chase, which involved the Garda helicopter, began on the M50 on Thursday night and continued onto the M1.

The chief suspect is listed as a major target under Operation Thor, the Garda project to shut down burglary gangs.

Gardai had been on night patrol following a number of burglaries in Blackrock and noticed a suspicious car while out in Tallaght.

After spotting the car once again at Junction 13 (Sandyford/Dundrum) on the M50, gardai went in pursuit. The vehicle was eventually abandoned near Dundalk on the M1, and the males who were in the car fled on foot.

Three males were arrested while another man is still being sought by gardai. It is understood that the three males in custody are aged 17, 19 and 23.

A Garda spokeswoman said in a statement: ‘Gardai in Dundalk have arrested three individuals in connection with burglaries carried out in the Blackrock area of Co. Dublin, which occurred on January 30, 2020.

‘On Thursday, January 30, 2020, gardaí on patrol in Tallaght, observed a car acting in a suspicious manner. Gardaí on night patrols, with the assistance of the Air Support Unit, monitored traffic in the area.

‘Gardai observed this vehicle again on the M50 at Junction 13 and a managed Garda pursuit ensued. Four occupants abandoned the offending vehicle on the M1 at Junction 18 and fled on foot towards fields nearby.’ A video of the high-speed pursuit was yesterday circulating on social media.

Got 2 travellers and a "settled" person out of Belmayne.
First to Cara Park where one guy paid a tenner, then to the NCT halting site in the Mun.
Finally back to the Hermitage apartment block in Balgriffin.
Got paid in full, which as you all know is the equivalent of free money!

Used to get the NCT Ballymun crowd with C2K, always paid... no bother aside from a lack of personal hygiene. I've seen Cara Park pop up on Free Now from time to time.

WEAPONS STASH Guns discovered hidden behind Dublin service station in Garda operation believed to be WWII firearms worth over €30,000

EXCLUSIVE
John Hand
3 Feb 2020, 7:30

THE guns discovered hidden behind a service station in a Garda operation are believed to be stolen antique weapons worth over €30,000, the Irish Sun can reveal.

The WW2-era firearms were taken by Ireland’s most prolific burglary gang from a collector in the Dublin 4 area at the beginning of last month.

Investigators reckon the Tallaght-based criminals were storing the five handguns and one machine gun - used by Adolf Hitler’s army during WWII - at the site in Rathcoole where gardai found them on Friday.

A source said: “These individuals have been prolific over the past few months.

“It looks like these guns were also stolen by them. Their value shows what items the gang have been targeting.

“They’ve also had their success in robbing jewellery and cash which has been their main target.”

WEAPONS EXAMINED

The items are undergoing an examination by gardai and it is expected to be confirmed that they are the guns stolen in that robbery at some stage this week.

We can also reveal gardai believe the gang - who had links to Fat Andy Connors - have hidden stolen goods on other sites.

Last Thursday, three members of the group were lifted after being tracked in a stolen BMW on the M50, while one suspect managed to flee.

The week beforehand, gardai raided a number of houses linked to the mob seizing three vehicles, cash and plush Louis Vuitton handbags.

The Irish Sun first revealed they had been terrorising Taoiseach Leo Varadkar’s constituency, targeting houses in Castleknock where they nabbed €200,000 worth of jewellery in one haul.

Since the start of the year, the robbers have struck in Galway, Castleknock, Limerick, Kildare, Westmeath and Carlow as well as along the border counties.

CRIMS FILL PILLOW CASES WITH GOODS

As part of their efforts to evade capture, the criminals have been paying up to €1,000 to respray their high-powered cars a different colour.

They also fit them with fake number plates to give the vehicles a new identity.

In most robberies they spend just minutes inside homes, going straight for the main bedrooms where it's likely cash and jewellery would be.

One method they have used is taking pillow cases and filling them up with the goods.

The criminals have been dubbed the 'Audi gang' because they are using plush cars - usually higher spec of the German vehicle - which are being robbed in the UK.

But they have also been using Volkswagen and Mercedes cars.

Locals in the area are on high alert in Dublin 15, with some refusing to leave their homes idle.

Fianna Fail Spokesperson on Defence and local representative Jack Chambers told how residents are installing new security measures in their homes like CCTV cameras and additional locks.

He added: "Many simply do not feel safe in their own homes."
