Just to give some balance here I will add a few positive traveller stories. I carry a traveller couple the odd time, no problems with them and they always tip me. Another encounter with travellers lately, fare was 15 euro, they gave me 50 euro.

The worst customers I have encountered over the years were wealthy so called respectable people.

I agree to some extent... not to the extent that I'd rather drive travellers than the kind of obnoxious arseholes you describe as wealthy and respectable. In my experience, the obnoxious are generally "new money" types who might complain that the designer suit they've lusted over for 53 years and can now afford doesn't come with sufficient pockets to accommodate coins.

When I worked for C2K we had many regular clients from the (settled) traveller community and there was never an issue with them. The firm also employed a driver from said community and I can honestly say he was one of the nicest men you could meet. I remember the day Masterson threatened to send him "home" for not wearing his uniform. How we laughed!

Gypsies are supposed to be descendants of North African Bedouins, hence the name. Egyptians/Gypsies. Although the Roma are supposed to descend from an Indian sub-continent race.

Why would you not rather carry sound travellers who tip you, over stuck up snobs who will fight with you over the fare?

Two women failed to pay taxi bill of over €100 after ‘family tragedy’

Two women who were intoxicated and got out of a taxi without paying the €103 bill had been out drinking for the day following a family tragedy, a court has heard.

Charlene McDonagh (27) and Nicole Marunowski (26) took a taxi from Naas to north county Dublin before getting out of the vehicle at Main Street Swords without paying the fare.

Sergeant Patricia McGarrity said gardaí received a report at around 8.30pm on January 21, 2022 about two females who had fled a taxi without paying the fare.

An amount of €103.20 was owed to the taxi driver.

The two women, who both have an address at Waterside View, Malahide, had travelled from Naas to Swords before leaving the taxi without paying.

When gardaí arrived on the scene they were both found nearby in an intoxicated state.

McDonagh has one previous conviction for theft dating back to 2019.

Marunowski has no previous convictions.

Defence solicitor Fiona D’Arcy said she had €105 from the defendants to hand over to the taxi driver.

She said Charlene’s brother had drowned on the day of the incident and she had gone drinking with Marunowski, who is her cousin.

Why would you not rather carry sound travellers who tip you, over stuck up snobs who will fight with you over the fare?

The obnoxious are easier to control/eject as may become desirable.... my favourite line (in such rare circumstances) being there's only enough room in this car for one obnoxious cunt and I'm not going anywhere! I don't think I know any taximan who hasn't had a bad experience with members of the travelling community and, while we shouldn't tar them all with the same brush, there is undoubtedly a higher propensity to cause serious upset among travellers than any other identifiable "minority"... with the possible exception of Eastern European immigrants in the broader context of serious crime in general, not necessarily in the narrow taxi context.

And a €1.80 tip for the driver....who probably had to drive from Naas(assuming he was a local)again at his own expense to collect his money!!

100%. Im not a liar and usually im no defender of travellers as I have been stung by them in the past but yes it happened. It was ann older traveller man I drove around, he was dying and they were all with him, about 30 of them.

Why would you be driving an old traveller around if'n he was dying ?
Why were about 30 of them with him ?
Did they not have their own vehicles to drive the dying knacker ?
